I have a guy once a week who is basically just that. He’s a lawyer so we call him the court recorder. :D He switched to recording the sessions and having AI transcribe and summarize it…
Names, descriptions, histories, ambience, even details....my players don't remember anything come the next game session and I even write a journal entry for them to peruse before the game!
It can be rough. I’m always pleasantly surprised by the things that ARE remembered, but I’d say not remembering is more common than otherwise. Lol. How do you go about reminding them?
@@DM-Timothy We play through Foundry VTT since we are spread out coast to coast. We use MS Teams, so I record each session and go back through the video as I write the journal entry. I put a copy of each sessions journal in the VTT, and I send it to them in an email prior to each next session. Beyond that it is an impossible task to get them to remember so I just roll with it, or I take a minute during game to go over whatever it is they are forgetting, and I remind them of the resources they have available to them prior to the game session. It's hard enough to get them to look over their character sheet and know their characters let alone get them to remember what happened last game and the names of persons/places/things.
@@unknowncomic4107 I hear you. My family game runs like this some times (don't tell them I'm snitching...) Have you checked out my video on recaps using the GRAB and Invite method? It helped at my own tables.
🥳🫂👍🏿 Yes, be kind to yourself - redirecting and distraction can give you precious seconds - I’m a fan of “sorry, what was that?” to get them to repeat their question in character, which tends to take a little longer - also, thats more cats than I realized 🐈⬛
Ive been putting together video recaps for some sessions since it seems often that they remember better when words are visually paired together. One person takes good notes so i pair that with my own to keep it more relevant to what stuck out for them in the session. It also gives me a second opportunity for hooks that might have gone over thier head. I'll add a somewhat suttle hint in the video recap. Most of the visuals come from the art from the source books intermingled with some ai that i generate. Granted it does take a few hours to create but I enjoy creating it and they enjoy seeing it, so its a win/win for us
You're too kind, thank you so much!! 4 Cats total here, though Mr Ziggy is... well... he's not a good jumper, so he only shows up when I pick him up. :D
Sorry for that! lol. Experimenting with how I use the camera. Especially on these musing videos since I'm not really working on much of a script, it gives me a sense of talking to people and makes it easier to "relax" into the topic.
Great content as usual. Video critique: don't wear that shirt while recording. It's too close to your flesh tone and the background wall. You want either a nice contrast so you stand out, or something that complements your skin tone so you don't look washed out. Stay away from solid colors if you're not wearing a jacket. Small checks, vertical stripes, even some simple patterns will look better on screen. El gatos time three is very cool. I didn't realize until this video that there were three. It gives the viewer something interesting to look at and an anticipation from episode to episode for how many will appear, which ones, and will they hang out the whole time. Lean into it without being obvious.
Thanks for the tips! I’ll admit, I don’t own much by way of checks and stripes, I’m a solids kind of guy, but the point regarding that shirt is well taken. Thanks! :)
7:17 I like to imagine a stenographer at your table, typing down all the things you and the players say

The constant cats in the background is the 🤌
They're adorbs, right?!
You'll never have to check your notes if you don't prepare anything. *Taps temple*
At least not until session 2 when you have to remember something you didn't prep... :D
I believe that at every great table, the DM is their own worst critic, since they are always aiming to improve.
I agree. :)
New here, and the cats in the background, deserves a sub (a top of the great content)
Thanks! Welcome aboard!! If there’s a topic you’re interested in, lemme know! :)

It really is amazing what a "fidget" that gives you a few seconds to think can do. Great point.

Sounds awesome! I'd love to see something you'd created, it sounds like a real labor of love. :)
3 awesome suggestions, 3 awesome cats (or are there more?), positive affirmations: another grand slam as DM Timothy hits it out of the park!

I feel like I’m getting whiplash from the camera angle switching back and forth lol

Wait do you release these 2 weeks in advance? Wow wow wow 🤯
My goal is to be 1 month ahead for my Tank Class supporters. We're closing in! :)
Why do i feel like an ancient from stargate sg1 is lecturing me right now?
I'm afraid I couldn't tell you the answer to that question, lol

You don't need notes if you Improv the whole thing. Jk jk
hehehe, you do on week 2. :D
