I personally think not enough people give Virion credit for what he does for Awakening, sure hes introduced as a basic philanderer whos only sticking around because we need an early game archer and he wants Sully to step on him again, but if you actually give him a chance his Supports actually do a lot to make Awakening feel like a setting where the characters live in not just exist for the plot, particularly his supports with Frederick Panne and Lissa end up giving some pretty good foreshadowing for the Valm arc reveal, plus his Support with Robin shows WHY Robin is the tactician, not just the fact Chrom found them face down ass up in a field. The Valm/Roseanne reveal also does a good job at wetting the soil and preparing the player for the Robin reveal later on AND does a good job of recontextualizing why hes a part of the Shepherds in the first place, getting right next to Chrom to ask Ylisse for aid. Oh stat wise? I dunno I play the games on Easy Casual and write fanfics about the fish from Fates, every character I like and raise is an underrated powerhouse and the ones I don't like are unusable garbage.
I think Beruka is pretty underrated. A lot of people just see her as a worse Camilla; however Beruka's has access to a lot of cool skills through reclassing. You could use sol, axebreaker, and swordbreaker for a flying tank, give her rally strength and defense for a more supportive build, or even axefaire and trample for some easy damage. The fact she has so much potential with just her base reclass options from fighter is so cool.
Not sure about the series at large, but I think one of the most underrated characters in Sacred Stones is Gilliam. I don't care about "base stats" or "growths" or "movement" I care that he's cool armor guy with a beard and big muscles and he green.
I always use Gilliam simply because "he's hot". And that just tends to be how I pick which characters to use. Either that or I just like their designs like Meg.
The Galeshades super slideshow of units, I was wondering what was taking so long for a new video, 100% worth the wait. Also hey we finally got the Neimi update too. As for a unit I find underrated, Arthur and Charlotte in Fates, are they the best units in the game, hell no, but are they fun, hell yeah...also cause I like their characters
I think another candidate for an underrated unit is Stahl. People perceive him as worse than Sully but I actually don’t think so. He fills in his niche relatively well, even if you get unlucky with his growths. His strength, HP, and defense growths are all reliable, and you should be able to get enough skill, luck and speed to make sure he doesn’t miss too much, gets crit often, or gets doubled. Sully, on the other hand (in my experience anyway) is more vulnerable to getting stat screwed than Stahl. If she doesn’t get her strength and defense growths, she’s not gonna be good in the early game, and it’ll take significant effort to make sure she picks up the slack for later. That little tangent rant aside… Day 25 of asking for Gaius :]
Stahl is also, if you're interested in the child units, ends up being one of the best fathers in the game, his more average stats and good classes to pass down allows him to be a great generalist father. Which does also have a nice bonus of S Supports.
Personally, I think the biggest advantage Alec and Narcian get in Genealogy is that there are no deployment slots. You just field everyone, and as such there's never a reason _not_ to use them. Where strong combat units like Sigurd Quan or Brave Lance Finn are taking the main objective, Ayra Chulainn and Jamke are picking off whatever manages to slip past them, Midir and Erinys are sniping siege-tome mages and sleep-staffers, Alec and Marbles are _just_ flexible enough that they can help with any one of those tasks. They can go after bandits, bodyguard Dew as he steals gold and Lachesis so she can promote, or chip down more dangerous foes and run away with canto so someone else can take the kill. And I am treating Alec and Nordion like they're one unit, and that's kind of because they are. They're flexible enough that they can fit into any role you need, but not so strong that they can solo entire armies on their own, meaning they actually pair _very_ well fighting side-by-side, which I think was the intention. Even on the very first map of the game, this dynamic is encouraged, since both can reach the closest bandit to Castle Chalphy, and can cleanly take them out by attacking with Alec and finishing off with Nibbles. They're not the best fathers, unless you want to experiment with Nihil Alec!Fee or Critical/Charge on Febail or Lester with Nazeem. But they also don't need to be. They're never going to be your strongest units, but they're also not gonna be Claud or Arden. They're like a pistol you'd whip out when your main gun's out of ammo, if that makes sense. Also, reject Noah. Embrace Trec. Just let nature take its course with Fir -- you don't have to waste the deployment slot, because you can't be bothered! >:D
Wolt has always stuck out to me as under-appreciated. Sure, he is NOT a unit you want to use in the long term, but his early game counter-free chip is genuinely quite useful. Not saying he’s top of the top, but dumping him straight into low D or F tier like so many people do is a wild take in filler units: the game. I feel like more people are coming around on this perspective with time, but I’m def. looking for more Wolt truthers. ALSO NEIMOUNT!!
As FE4 has slowly become my favorite title in the series, Poise and Elect have been some of my personal favorite Christmas cavs, even if they are just "ok", super-canto alone always makes them superstars in my chimp-sized mind. Silas comes to mind as well in regards to being underrated as well.
My personal underrated unit is Patty from FE4, but when she has Holyn as her father. She becomes an excellent combat unit! Despite being foot-locked, she’ll have access to A-Rank swords thanks to her Holy Blood, meaning she can use the Brave Sword right away. Along with the armorslayer and wing clipper swords, there isn’t much that can survive her, especially if she gets a Luna proc. Not to mention her utility as a thief, being able to steal and transfer money to everybody. In addition, she can make great use of the leg ring and/or the knight band to keep up with the mounted units. Overall, under very easy circumstances, Patty can become a great combat unit that has little trouble keeping up with her allies.
Wil is and forever will be to me the most underrated unit in FE7. He gives consistent and reliable chip in Lyn mode, which like alec and noish can start to snowball going into post Lyn Mode. Even outside of that, in HHM, he's probably the better of the 4 if you don't use Lyn Mode. He has a niche in sniping down the peg knights. You can get a steel bow for him turn 1 and he won't be doubled by most enemies if they meet him 1-1 range. He has an uncontested promotion Item, and Uncontested loot (brave bow, killer bow, etc.). Also his decent skill, paired with uncontested support with dart, leads to him having a really solid crit rate. Another thing is he comes in at level 4. Meaning it's only 6 levels before premotion, which isn't too many chapters away. Idk he's been my favorite unit since I first started playing FE. Sure he's not marcus, but he has a lot of good maps early game, that snowball into him being a really solid investment unit.
Something to add with Neimi: She and Colm levels up their Support REALLY fast. They start not being able to kill enemies by themselves, however, both of them gain EXP faster than other units (Colm being a Thief, Neimi being level one). At the same time they win levels, they win suports, ending with nice critical and avoid rates while being close one close to another. Neimi has enough chapters untill the pre-promote Sniper arrives, so you can choose who are you benching, since Snipers are not bad at all on Scared Stones (Gargoyles exist). Neimi is not the best Unit, but she's not even close to being the worst unit of the game as some people say
Didn't know Gray was underrated. I leveled everyone in SoV and he felt totally fine, good, even. Especially because my Saber was hotdog water Also Tobin is a good mage. Pretty sure he's the best out of Alm's army. Took mine to endgame.
Noha has it uses and is a decent unit after train. Nami its actually really good specially after promo and with A support with colm his future lover. ps I like you specify its your opinion and you are open to debate about different points of view. Thats really nice of you and avoid trolling and misconceptions.
One think people don’t usually notice a bit mage gray is that saggitae speed ring gray absolutely destroys stuff in p4. He’s pretty trash mid game, but once that saggitae comes to he skyrockets in value due to solid atk and 1-3 range bazooka damage
Gargoyles are mid to late game enemies before that flier effectiveness serves no purpose. Bows mainly exist to chip and setup kills or to polish off an enemy you couldn't finish off outright. Luckily, she's the only archer in the game that can use the promotion item as the prepromoted archer is well promoted. Getting a mount and d sword access isn't bad as she's the earliest ranger you can get as the other unit who can go into ranger prefers hero stat bonuses
For me the most underrated unit is Aran from Radiant Dawn. Everyone loves Nolan but I always find Aran is far better at tanking and hitting in part three. It's not hard to feed him a few kills to get him to cap two of atk, def, and skl then BXP some speed onto him, allowing him to stop getting doubled and maybe double himself, on top of being a defensive juggernaut. He requires a bit of investment but he pays you back with the most reliably of any Dawn Brigade member not Sothe or Voulg. He's my Dawn Brigade carry every run.
I used Noah once in an FE6 ironman. He got severely Strength screwed, but because of his Sword Rank he could still use powerful weapons for serviceable damage. Solid all-around, even when you get unlucky.
Bors: if you go through the struggle of training him on normal mode and give him the first knight crest, he will be capable of holding himself against the western isles reinforcements that attack you from behind as long he has enough vulneraries, he is also fast enouh that he doesn't get constantly doubled by enemies and he can hold Douglas in place in case you wanna get the true ending, like he is the only reason I managed to get it for real. Florina: She isn't underrated, but I like her because she can actually fight well if trained, but back when I played it the first time I felt like the pegasus class was among the worst ones because of how weak she starts out, funny that she is now one of my faves in 7. Shannam: He has bargain, teaches Mareeta Astra and is funny, best unit in Thracia.
I think Zeiss is pretty underrated, he has the best class in the game and with ludicrous hard mode bonuses has similar stats that other pre promotes joining around the same time have, he's a little slow and has crap accuracy before promoting obviously not better than units like Mildly or Perceval but I think when he joins you'll often struggle to find a full deployment better than him and after promotion his accuracy issues go away when using killer lancers or iron swords and he'll have very respectable stats with promo bonuses even without considering level ups he'll have stats fairly similar to Perceval but he will be noticeably slower and have worse weapon ranks, but that's still a good unit to have
The *_most underrated unit in Fire Emblem_* (or at least the one I want to talk about today) is Engage's Clanne. He provides good, reliable magic chip in the early game. If levelled up a bit, he can get some decent Speed to double a lot of enemies. And until the Solm arc, a fast, accurate unit that hits on Resistance is certainly good enough to be on any team.
Naoise and Alec are fine. They just dont have plot relevance in a game that actually has a bunch of really cool characters, especially in the first generation. Noah is in fact, pretty good, but just comes at the worst possible time. Chapter 7 is already annoying enough without having to babysit him and Trec. Heck, even Zelot(always thought it was Zealot) who is already promoted can have trouble keeping up with this game's insane Christmas Cavs at this point and being good on your starting chapter is nearly a prerequisite to becoming popular. If he joined on either Chapter 6 or Chapter 8, then he would have been used much more. As for Neimi, I actually agree that Ranger Neimi is a lot of fun. Once promoted, she actually holds herself rather well with her surprising decent growths. Issue is that she is an absolute slog to get there. Sacred Stones is not favorable to archers and getting both Lute and Artur in literally the next chapter makes her deployment slot hard to justify in the early game. That Orion's Bolt you mentioned is also very easily skipable as, especially as a first time player of chapter 6, it is frankly difficult to save all of the villagers from the spider in that fog of war map. Unless you put some effort into Vanessa, you're unlikely to save them all and if that happens, Neimi can never promote unless you find the secret shops in chapters 14 and 19 and truly becomes useless. As for Grey, I don't care if he's only good as a mercenary because he's sick as hell as one and Alm's route doesn't actually get that many Sword units. It's his canon class anyway. The only character I'd personally recommend deviating away from their more standard option is Faye because she's insanely good as a cleric.
Ok but Alec is the sole guy with special conversation with Brigid that didn't loved her sister first, and the sole of this guys to give Patty swords. So her true love until tye remake give her interaction with Holyn
Noah using your only early knight crest is a lot more of a costs than you might think, it's a 10 chapter difference by the end of which whoever isn't promoted will be a liability, you're not promoting Noah and giving the other cavs more time to train up, you're promoting Noah and benching the other cavs by chapter 12
I understand this perspective but also disagree with it. If you've been regularly leveling the cav you didn't promote without feeding them, they'll probably be nearing max cav level by the time you get Knight Crest #3, leaving you a low-leveled promoted unit with high bases who will be relatively easy to train up thanks to a slight level difference.
Bro thinks he's safe brother the 2-3 range ranger is coming

“Cav with 10 base con” is my favourite GBA archetype. No speed loss with hand axes once promoted is very satisfying
I think Beruka is pretty underrated. A lot of people just see her as a worse Camilla; however Beruka's has access to a lot of cool skills through reclassing.
