The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

They were so perfect together!!! So sad not to see Brian with his band.
And Bill & Charlie 😕
I love how Jagger rolls his eyes when he sings the changed lyrics.
Ed Sullivan asked “The Doors” to change the lyrics to “Light My Fire”. They said they would but never changed it. Ed Sullivan was furious.
Mick rolling his eyes at "Lets spend some time together" haha
Brian with sitar looks very epic and keith on piano looks epic too:)
1:17 "Let's spend some time together"
That eyeroll
He played ball though. Jim Morrison didn't.
I know, my fave part, hahahahaha
apparently people didn't fuck back then
Well, consider that the Stones (and of course Oldham) were looking ahead to being on Sullivan in the future. It was important for their popularity to keep appearing on American TV. Although the word change altered the meaning of the song, it was just that: one song. Mick's eye roll was a message to their fans that the Stones thought it dumb and not their idea. Morrison just didn't give a s***. The Doors appealed to a different type of audience so in their case it worked in their favor, as the Stone's compliance with Sullivan's demands worked for them.
You are right on Cissy2cute.
Great performances and with Brian.
No strings on his sitar.
Ruby ❤️ Tuesday...
😘
Rest In Peace, Charlie Watts. You made a huge contribution to the world of music! 🥁❤️
Brian Jones was so great !!!
Great band !!!
love how mick rolls his eyes when he says let's spend some "time" together
BOTH bands were Amazing!!! The Beatles had their own style of music along with style, same with The Rolling Stones!! They both ROCKED the 60's!!:)
Agreed
Mic rolling his eyes when he sings "Let's spend some time together" lol - he was cool
All legendary acts performed on this show. The stones alone are worth buying it!
The lads are fabulous and have been for decades.
Fact is, without Brian Jones there wouldn't have been a Rolling Stones.
Not necessarily, mick was the heart and soul
Brian Jones was the one who started it
Andrew Oldham engineered (some say with the willing help of Mick and to a lesser extent Keith) Brian’s diminishing influence& input into the Stones. There are accounts from some band members and others closely aligned to the band that Brian’s substance abuse , alcohol input and frailty of mind during this period resulted in him becoming ineffective and unreliable when the band had some heavy commitments; this was the root cause of his eventual ejection from the band he formed. There were other aggravating factors such as him in the early days taking an additional £10 fee compared to the other members; he was also known to have a mean streak and by all accounts could be a real arsehole. However the fact remains he was an exceptional musician , fashion trendsetter and many, many legends from that period such as Jimi Hendrix, Paul Mc Cartney , Pete Townsend and Bob Dylan held Brian in extremely high regard. I have loved the Stones all my life and I listen to them daily , but I have to say if tragedy had not cruelly taken Brian and he had decided to dig his heels in and remain a Stone things could have , remarkably as it sounds , been even better. God Bless Brian where ever your soul may be!
Brian saw Rollin’ Stone on the Muddy Waters record sleeve when he was asked by a club owner what the name of his band was…while on a call booking gigs

I always looked forward to Ed and all the great stars he had. I will never forget the Stones and the Beatles and the rest of the "British Invasion" that appeared on the show.
Fuck British invasion! Doo woop, Elvis, Ricky Nelson, Dion and lots of great music from the end of 50s is way better
@@vtecpower5336 WTF Elvis? You must be kidding
@@vtecpower5336 NO WAY JOSE-- SHUT UP
Brian was so classy!
I LOVE JIM MORRISON BECAUSE HE WAS A TRANSGRESSOR AND A GREAT ORIGINAL ARTIST. HE BROKE LIMITS, HE DIDN'T OBEY THE RULES.
Actually when they first started getting big in LA (when I was a kid) and started appearing on TV, Jim was accused of imitating Mick Jagger.
@@clarkewi
Yeah that was so ridiculous when they did that. It was funny though when they compared Mick to Don Knotts...which he was a dead ringer.
I READ TRANSGENDER AND WAS LIKE WHAT
Yeah, 'cause they forced him to sing "let's spend SOME TIME together". He did a great job of letting us know how he felt about that.
LONG LIVE THE STONES! Amazing performances.
Mick Jagger and Keith Richards wrote ALL their songs and are responsible for their 50 years of success. Brian Jones was important at the beginning and he developed the band with Richards and Jagger but at the end it was Jagger/Richards who took them to another level. The band is still together after more than 40 years since Jones died. Without Jagger and Richards the band would have never been as popular. THEY are the Rolling Stones.
I saw the Rolling Stones for the first time on the Ed Sullivan show singing "somebody to love" when I was eleven years old. My mom bought me the nine by twelve album that year.
Yo tengo 22 años y no tuve la suerte a ser contemporáneos a su juventud
Here it comes! 😱 it's just your 19 nervous breakdown! 🎉🎊🤹🎸🎹🎼🎵🎶🎬🎤 Rolling Stones!😎🎸🎤😎🥁😎🎹😎🎸😎🎟🎫
I have been waiting a long time for these full shows. I remember watching The Stones performing "Gimme Shelter" on the show in the late 60s and can't wait to see it again!
2022
Mick did NOT like Ed insisting, "You've going to sing 'Let's Spend Some TIME Together', or you're off the show". Note, at 1:19, when he sings the line, he rolls his eyes upward, as if to say to viewers, "See what I have to put up with?".
The greatest rock and roll band ever!!!
HAVE YOU SEEN YOUR MOTHER BABY STANDING IN THE SHADOW?
I LIKE THE BEST FILM. LOOK! BRIAN JONES PLAYED GIBSON FIREBIRD
KIETH DID NOT HAVE ANY GUITAR. THEY WERE SO YOUNG AND BEAUTIFUL.
I LOVE 60'S STONES ESPECIALLY BRIAN JONES. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Stones forever !
Always loved that Tear-Drop Vox Brian plays.
was my first guitar , I hated it because I could not play it sitting down. it would slide to the side . wish I had it now
National Treasures ! Superb !
RIP Brian Jones!
76 years ago today July 26, 2019 Happy Birthday, Mick.
1:19 Definitely one of the highlights of all RUclips music videos, the compliance of Mick to Ed's rules and the eyes rolling to sing different words than the original. Different than the Lizard King's little deal........
The best band ever .
These guys were an absolute powerhouse. All those tunes they wrote? Fan fuc ing tastic!!!! A rare, rare thing.
My mother & I are such huge Rolling Stones fans!
Perfect little compilation. LOVE the Stones! 😎
If you like pop music. Sure they did other genres, but the feeling of bubbly pop was always there. They could just never grow out of that sound I guess.
I AGREE! I Love the Rolling Stones! They Rock!!!!
"Let's Spend The Night Together" - best keyboards ever played on a Stones tune :-D
Acho que foi o melhor programa da TV mundial, este do Ed Sullivan Show.Pena que não pude assistir ao vivo.
Yes, I remember having only one TV with only ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS and the family would sit together and watch the Ed Sullivan Show. OMG, a family actually sat together for meals and watching TV!!!
ooohh!!! que lindo perrito el del final ❤
One of the all time great bands....
Good ole Ed Sullivan. I remember this all so well.
I own and have listened to every Beatles record A. and B. Helter Skelter is their only tune without a pop feel. How can you tell me Good Morning, Good Morning is rock? Listen to something like Street Fighting Man or I Can See For Miles by the Who and you'll understand how bubbly and soft the Beatles' sound really was. All high production and no rawness.
They need to bring this back on TV!
Ok, go dig up Sullivan,
we'll wait.........
I guess the youth today can only imagine what impact on our culture that this had back in the day. I still remember th firs time I saw the Stones on Ed Sullivan. Seeing the Beatles first apppearance in February 1964 as a 9 1/2 year old culture-head that I was as the class artist, I thought the Stones were too raunchy, then later with my own maturing age, I learned to appreciate them. It was all a great experience back then. -Mark Seibold, Retired IT Technician, Artist-Astronomy Educator, PDX OR
Jones is the stones!
look at the drummer hahah so chill...

Boy, whoever embalmed Mic and Keith sure did a nice job!
Thank you, Andrew Loog Oldham and Ed Sullivan!
@fredmila They appeared 6 times on The Ed Sullivan Show. 10/25/64, 5/2/65, 2/13/66, 9/11/66, 1/15/67 & 11/23/69. Twice they played 2 songs, on all the others they played 3 or 4 songs. In total they played 17 songs on the show.

Si, los beatles fueron la mejor banda fresa de aquella época.Los Stones los superan en varios aspectos que hasta la fecha exísten, mientras los beatles se desvanecieron por puro Ego
la mejor epoca de rolling stone = Brian Jones
Yessss!!!!!!!!
If I don't get some shelter..I'm gonna fade away...lyric...
me too, but the stones were creative as well, between the buttons and aftermath have many experimental moments, and in the 70's they played with reggae, funk, soul,
Great performances for sure~!
Gor, I remember seeing these performances when they were new ... on the new-fangled color TV. Very cool.
It's about time! Can't wait to see the complete video. Totally classic and long overdue!
ha totally even john said it"the beatles can rock but they dont roll". i love the creativity of the beatles and the pure rock swag of the stones. no other band makes me sway.
Love both
Your comment is so true but without Brian Mick and Keith may have ended up working in the factory with the Girl!
ANSOLUTELY. Fat thanks he (Brian Jones) got..........
Finally! This is a must.
To the chap whom said they didn't contribute to the industry. YOU MUST BE JOKING!!
How old are you, 10!
They were and still are one of the original great rock bands.
Go and listen to Justin
