  • Black Maria from Something/Anything?
    LYRICS:
Black Maria, you scare me so
I feel as though my heart stop dead
    You're a liar, this I know
I watch you go around my head
    Oh, I'm going down slow
    You scare me so
    Oh, you never let go
    You scare me so
Gay deceiver, my eyes they burned
My insides turned, my brain it rolled
    Unbeliever, but now I've learned
I took my turn, I come up cold

Todd Rundgren must have been in a really fantastic place in his life to be able to churn out this many great songs! Who else debues with a double
album? Todd! That's who! There is something magical about most of his songs. Like an essence of some kind. I honestly cannot think of any other band that produced that many greats on not one but two albums? The man was exploding with creativity and thank God for that!

I was 15 when this double album came out (Something/Anything?). My 18 year old brother bought it, and I immediately latched on to it. I was just beginning to mess around with playing bass guitar at the time, and this song and album were so influential, especially when I found out that Todd provided all the instruments and vocals on this song (and half that album). Pure genius! Todd Rundgren produced many other famous groups, and that was maybe his greatiest contribution. The best album by "XTC" was produced by Rundgren.

For me, one of the great albums off all time. The writing, performing, lyrics, singing, production. It doesn't get any better than this. I bought it when it came out and have listened to it hundreds of times. I never followed any other Todd recordings (sorry ToddHeads) after this one. Supremely talented guy. This is my "one album on an island" pick.

Like You.....one of my all time favorites by anybody. A great late night driving and singing along album. Have been listening to it for 50 years now and also like you have never found another Todd album to even come close to this. Now that I`m aging, I sold off all my other Todd Vinyl records, but this is in constant rotation and Black Maria is probably my favorite song on here.

My only guess is because he does 'Everything' else on 3 sides of this album too, plays All the instruments, songwriter, producer, etc. etc. or that he had to further prove it w 'Utopia' & 'The Ikon'?
