    Superb. I studied the Martinu Madrigals when Lillian Fuchs was my teacher, at the Aspen Music Festival. Another student of hers, the violist Kazi Pitelka, paved the way for my enthusiasm for this work. I have had the chance to play it with the violinista Sylvia Mitchell, Margaret Tyson Klein (d.1995), and with Kati Kyme. It's a terrific way to end a program!

    This was written for them. They established something called "The Musicians' Guild", which gave concerts in NYC in the 40's and 50's and commissioned many works, including this one.
