  • I caught a 1st glimpse at one of the mbta's new seatless (except for 1 seat on each end) red line cars dubbed "BIG RED"
I think it's fine as long as they keep some cars in the set normal and only run during rush hour.

Attention passengers. The next train to Alewife will be the high-capacity train, "Big Red". Seating is available in the front and rear 2 cars only. There will be no seating in the middle cars.

This is the first time I've seen one in person, I like the idea as long as they only run during rush hour, because at rush hour you usually can't get a seat anyway and it makes it less cramped

These cars now have some seats in them, but there are still spots where there isn’t any.

No only the middle two cars don't have seats, the first and last two cars are normal

@2012alexg They did not run in full 6 car sets as far as I know, I think they usually only have the middle two cars "Big Red".

And the whole set has the big red cars in it? I've heard of these but never seen them. They only bring them out at rush hour when you can usually never get a seat anyway

@@mrveliko8417 I haven't heard this announcement play ever and I rode on the big red cars a few times. They have alternating rows of seats but with some standing room.

      Actually the opposite.
crowding gets bad on the red line, and there is only two sets of this type of train on the system. This is practical.
