  • Without a doubt, one of the best accessories you can get for your PWC jetski is a bilge pump. The bailers that come with your jet ski just aren't enough to keep water out of your engine when a hull breach occurs. This video will show you how to install a little insurance to protect your baby.

    Nice, clean install, the only thing I would recommend is to put the switch on a higher level, like under the storage compartment under the steering, easily accessible in case the auto function doesn't kick in if you get water in the hull. On the skis the first portion that start to go under is the rear, so if you have to remove the lid to turn the switch on manually when it is under water, it will take in much more water. Other wise, it is a great install. Thanks,

    Very impressed at the cleanliness of the install. SUPER METICULOUS, if only dealers were like that.
    That only other thing i can recommend (even if I have never done a bilge pump install) is that you can buy and use heat shrink tubing glue that will trully make all you heat shrink and solder connection water and air tight.

    For marine applications you should use marine quality wire which should be tinned (when you strip the insulation off the wire should be silver coloured not copper) but probably ok if you don't use it in the sea.

    Hey guys! Great content as usual! I've got the same pump but I'm installing it in a 2009 RXTX 255....any suggestions on where to mount it? I'm thinking at the very back behind sound baffle that I removed in favour of the RIVA j-pipe. Others mentioned under the engine itself in the divot but I think that the heat of the engine could impact it.....thoughts?

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  3 года назад

      You should put it in the lowest part of the hall but still somewhere that is accessible. I don’t think it’s necessary to put it underneath the engine, although that is normally the lowest part. I wouldn’t worry too much about it, just locate at the lowest area that you can work with comfortably. Good luck.

    Nice video and very helpful I am planning to install one on my 2011 RXT 260. Question I have is, why did you place the through hull fitting on the side? Isn't the water going to run into the foot well?

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  7 лет назад

      Very good question. Yes, some of it runs into the foot well, but it's actually shot out at quite a high velocity so it doesn't create a real problem. It's really about finding the optimal place to put a significant-sized hold. Chris felt that the side was optimal, but someone else may think differently. Good luck!

    They make a new kind of heat shrink that has a lining of hot glue in the interior. Used to make waterproof connections. When the heat is applied the glue melts and displaces the air inside the heat shrink, and when it dries & hardens there's nowhere for water to penetrate.

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  3 года назад +1

      We did not need any additional wire because the bilge pump, battery and switch are all located at the rear of the ski on the 2015 RXT-X. For your RXP-X with the battery near the front you may have to extend the wiring if so use the same gauge and heat shrink the connections.

    Hey again 2 more questions lol

    2) does the bilge pump come with that on/off/auto switch?

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  2 года назад +1

      It depends on the pump, and what triggers the pump circuit. Most will start operating before they're fully submerged. The bilge pump that we used does not come with the switch. We bought it separately. Good luck with your project.

      We set it on automatic. That's a feature of the pump. The water sensor is located near the bottom of the pump. Many units have a float which when lifted (due to water intrusion), starts the pump. You need to check the type of pump you buy, as some are manual (switch on or off), and some are automatic. @@3ftDeepChannel I have a 2012 GTX155 which I use for a lot of fishing and spearfishing. My ski has the same hatch at the back like yours and I find it's starting to leak fair bit of water through that hatch area if i stay stationary in the water for long. Do you have any good tips on sealing those two hatches on either side better? I've been thinking of putting some 3mm neoprene tapes but you seem to know your stuff when it comes to jet ski's so thought i'd ask you for some advise. btw, i just ordered all the parts to do this installation on my ski as well! love your channel mate.

      Those hatch panels are notorious for losing their shape and letting water in through the edges. Normally, the water comes in through the hatches when the machine is moving and water is splashing over the hatches, not when it is stationary. Is that part of your boat underwater when stationary? Otherwise, it’s unlikely to be the hatch that’s the problem. More likely it is the carbon ring seal. I would check that out right away by securely tethering your machine to a dock and giving it a bit of throttle while looking at the seal. Let us know what you see. Oh, and thanks for the kind words! Good luck.

      @@3ftDeepChannel hey bud, I have a massive pod set up on my ski that i use for spearfishing. they are massive haha and about 25kg on each side. but superb for storage and stability. But you are right i think the carbon seals also need to be checked out. I'm getting it serviced this week but I was going to get both things done. 1. change carbon seal and 2. get the neoprene tapes around the hatches. I'm starting to get into offshore diving and last thing i want is to sink or needing to use my epirb! haha I'm also looking to add the bilge pump like you have there and also add a jump starter cable to the battery and have the plug come out under the seat so that i can use a portable jump starter if i have to in case of an emergency. I'll keep you posted how i go.

      Thanks for the info. Before adding neoprene to the panels, you might try a little heat to see if you can carefully work them back into their proper shape first. Also, I’d look for a foam-like material from 3M. Everything they make is top-notch. Good luck.

    How can we order t-shirts from Canada?
    Amazon.com won't ship here

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  8 лет назад

      Right now we're only using Amazon's (fantastic) print-on-demand T-shirt service, so they're not available outside the US yet. If we get more inquiries like yours and we find a place that will print them in small batches without charging us a fortune, we'll make them available in Canada (and elsewhere?), too. Thanks for your interest!

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  4 года назад

      It takes quite a while for the hull to fill up with water. Plenty of time to flip it back over without any issues.

      We just used cable ties to secure it to existing tubing in the hull. I don't advise it, but it worked for us.

      It's come in handy a few times. Not sure where the water was coming from, though but glad we had it. Definitely a must-have on older machines.

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  8 лет назад +2

      When you get any kind of hull breach, you need a bilge pump. If your carbon seal fails, or an exhaust clamp breaks, you'll be happy you have a bilge pump.

      What is a carbon seal? Where is it located and what does it do?

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  8 лет назад

      The carbon ring is a critical part of a system that prevents water from coming into the hull through the opening the driveshaft passes through. Follow the driveshaft out of the engine toward the rear of your PWC. When you encounter a rubber flap, lift it up and the carbon ring is underneath.

      Or when your intercooler corrodes and it pumps the water into the hull instead back out, youll wish you had a bilge.....ask me how I know.

      Excellent advice, thanks. We have since bought proper crimping tools (they sure are expensive) and use them for other connections. No problem with those (inferior) connections yet, though. Thanks for your comment.

      It's not complex. I've installed a bilge pump in 3 different skis and it's not hard at all, just time consuming. Main thing is to crimp the wires together properly and use heatshrink.
