  • According to the 2023 Trafficking in Persons Report from the US Department of State, the South African government does not fully meet the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking, but is making significant efforts to do so.
Last year the Human Sciences Research Council estimated that a possible 250 000 people have fallen victim to human trafficking in South Africa alone.
On Sunday, police rescued 90 undocumented Ethiopian nationals who were allegedly being kept against their will and under inhumane conditions.
Is enough being done to tackle human trafficking in South Africa?
To discuss this matter further, we're now joined virtually by the Deputy Director: Child Exploitation at the National Department of Social Development, Gyan Dwarika.

you know who is behind the trafficking if you know who is promoting open boarders and a single military command for the whole of Africa.

I tried back in 2016 to get authorities alerted to the trafficking of children across the border. I wrote numerous emails to people, the mayor, even the UNHCR who have a very sizable budget to blow on lunches, false nails, etc. Nobody was interested. Ubuntu at its finest.

There are human traffickers on the Rain mobile network. The Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act says the network operator must report them. Please help. They like abuse and escalating things.

Why is it not an option for the children to be awarded to the care of their state in their Country?
You are actually helping them achieve their goal because that was the main intention for their illegal transportation to SA and again the burden on social systems, schoools, everything we as citizens are complaining about increases at the expense of the taxpayer's and our lives.
It's a scramble to get south african children into affordable government schools as the foreign children are prioritized into the english medium schools that we seek to put our children in.
This is another set-up and we must again fight come registration and be labeled afrophobic, xenophobic and everything else.
We know full well these children did not fall from the sky, they have parents and relatives and whole governments and our government is just happy to keep on piling on burdens at the cost of its citizens.
Doesn't South Africa have poor people of its own.
This is an absolute deliberate ploy to see South Africa collapse either into a full on war so that those behind these NGO's can finally step in against xenophobic south africans through stupid military interventions or sactions and have South Africa under their full on control.
If they were so humanitarian why aren't they taking these children to their G7 countries.
How do dirt poor, parentless, relativeless, countryless children drive across so many borders just to get to South Africa.

Are they trafficked or smuggled into SA ? How do you know they're brought here for these assumptions ? Is SA really place to dump African national children ? The law must work in those countries and arrest their parents for such cruel actions.
