    YES!!! Please leave the messy parts in, it shows the whole process so new trainers or horse people won't have unreasonable expectations. There are dog trainers who cut out the mistakes and show only the finished product as if it's "just that easy to magically train a reactive dog". This isn't as exciting or realistic to the viewers interested in the process.

      I think there's massive liability insurance involved with bringing outside people in to learn with horse. I grew up on a dairy farm and had horses. My horses escaped when young irresponsible trail bikers rode thourough our farm, taking down fences and leaving gates open. I was at school teaching, got the call, "Your horses are out!" I roared home, to find my mother and an Irish priest walking the 2 horses past the church. They had stopped the horses on the edge of the local golf course, a mile away. If they had ever galloped across the golf course, I would have had to mortgage my house for sod repairs. Horses@leanneadams2549

    Years and years of watching American westerns, and I never knew that John Wayne's horse needed training before it could be tied outsie a saloon. The unrecognised heroes of the Western genre. The horse trainers.

    • @kiminalaska9363
      @kiminalaska9363 5 месяцев назад +11

      I was thinking of the John Wayne westerns also when watching this. I was thinking that they generally didn’t hard tie their horses to the hitching post. The just wrapped the reins around it a couple times

    • @Kayenne54
      @Kayenne54 4 месяца назад +4

      Actually, I did notice how they could just drop the reins anywhere and the horse would just stand there. That used to amaze me. (and worry me if their feet or legs got tangled, but they didn't move!) The tiny bit I knew about horses way back then (still haven't improved much on that but these videos are very helpful!), but how well the horses were trained was my main focus in those kinds of movies...any kind of movie involving horses. You'd be absolutely horrified at some of the early Chinese tv series/movies, where the horses were obviously maltreated. Once westerners got to see those series, they've since upped their game and the horses are looking much healthier, because we complained en masse at the movie studios...In one Chinese tv series, the poor horse (an extra) was so hungry he/she was eating the wooden post it was tied to; great chunks missing. Gah. Bet there were lots of complaints aimed to producers...

    I totally agree with C.C. on this issue of NOT ‘tying up a horse and letting them deal with it’. The horse is a prey animal running free is their primal response to stress our training them should always keep this in mind. Learning to tying up a horse should not cause more problems caused by a human’s insistence.
    Including the ‘rough patch’ getting her to lope is an important part to include as they are important learning lesson for both the horse and human as feed back. Horse training is problem solving and each horse and human combination is unique.
    Thank you C.C. for explaining why and how you do your training, it is important to understand that horse and human contact is dynamic and not an absolute; and like time itself everything is relative.
    I did too look up the information on song bird protection and found exactly what C.C. did and was not surprised by her findings and what she planned to do in response. 👍

    Great job CC.
    For those that might not work with horses…Speeding up creates energy in the horse, increase in energy kicks in the fight or flight response in prey animals.. Staying calm and keeping consistency in your own energy (nice and low) helps the horse work through this response. It is SO important when creating that trust that you remain calm, constant and kind… You cannot “fake” it.
    I am SO glad CC that you included all the try’s and didn’t cut them out. It is good to see the WHOLE process and I noted that your energy remained consistent and calm. Wonderful example.
    I think creating this energy, letting her come down like you did and THEN doing the tie out was perfect. I really liked your tie out process too. I have a mini donkey that I need to teach to tie out….I think I will borrow your technique of using the smaller pen set up.
    Wonderful Video, I look forward to more of Scarlets journey.

    I love your methods . They are so. Horse centric! You make the horses feel safe after being abused by a bunch of creeps!

    I love how patient you are with your horses and I know that is why you are so successful in training them. I also respect your decision not to move your trailer, many people would have moved the nest, but not you. Thanks again for sharing.

    She was born wild till they captured her. When you think about it all her ancestors have been wild on the prairie for at least 150 of years until the BLM came along. Imagine her 10X grandparents (or more) ridden by actual Indians who fought the US Army with bows and arrows. CC you are so lucky to own living American history. 🙂 She is so beautiful!

      Scarlett is not off of BLM land. She is a reservation horse, but basically the same 😉

    Your "trash to treasure" girl looks amazing, thanks to you! Just beautiful!😍 I love your gentle, fair, and patient training, resulting in horses with total trust in you. I would imagine wild horses have a strong, genetic fear/flight response.

    I love how well you get to know your horses and how each is an amazing individual! You take the time to let them just be themselves. Scarlet is a beauty! I think Ziggy would also be a good companion for her. He could calm her down and teach her. Thx for sharing the entire video. I’m learning a lot although I’ll never own a horse 🐴

    BEAUTIFUL. It's all about trust isn't it....and allowing another creature (as we are creatures too) to feel " at home" at their pace ...which is what we all must have in relationships if we are to become fully trusting and innately happy ....
    Scarlett is such a young vulnerable spirit...THANK GOD SHE FOUND YOU AND YOU FOUND HER AS WHAT YOU HAVE TOGETHER UNFOLDING IS THE ENORMITY OF WHAT A GENUINE BOND CAN AMOUNT TOO...
    I HOPE SHE STAYS WITH YOU...THE TRUSTS SHES DEVELOPING IN YOU TO GROWUP IN IS JUST BEAUTIFUL TO BE APART OF .. THANKYOU SO MUCH BACK ...NON STOP !!

    Thank you for continuing to educate those of us who don’t know much about horses! I love your videos. As an avid birder I also want to thank you for mentioning the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and its protection of birds. Those baby robins should fledge soon and your trailer will be liberated! 😂 Keep up the great work!

    I appreciate how respectful you are of your animal's & wildlife's needs. It's so rare to see in MT. Most would have chucked the birds nest to their barn cats. Your ethics warm my withered, little heart.

    I’m about to do this with my Yearling in a 14x12 stall with my gelding in the stall next to him - I have the tie thingys that Steve Young uses - I really like them!! Love your technique - very soft and gentle - slow and easy is the way.

      That's what I was just thinking. Ziggy's pretty chilled ... might be a good match of temperaments. The neighbor's loose horse may present a problem (forgotten her name) if they're in the quarantine area for any reason.
