  • They just can't do it. No matter what they try or how dominant they look at stretches, San Francisco can't stop coming up just short of the ultimate goal. Every chance was there to finally break the many curses on them, but thanks to two brutal special teams mistakes, Kansas City twists the knife in the most painful manner possible: An overtime loss.
This really is the season of "Fuck You".

Lets be honest if his players did not know the new overtime rules which were changed back in March 2022 (2 seasons) after the Bills/Chiefs AFC Championship game where Buffalo never touched the ball, that is 100% coaching malpractice. Hell Chiefs players mentioned how they were even training in training camp for such a scenario. That is all on Kyle and his massive ego.

I know a lot of people will say Cowboys because hating on Dallas is always a popular thing to do, but to me it's getting so far, making it to multiple NFC title games and Super Bowls and blowing every opportunity for the past 30 years. Losing in the wild card or divisional is lame but is it actually worse than getting all the way to the Super Bowl or making multiple NFC title games only to lose? The argument for many is that only winning the Super Bowl matters in the end. If that's the case than 30 years of failure at the biggest game is significantly worse than 30 years of failure in the first two rounds of the playoffs.

I’m 23 years old and I have loved this team as long as I have followed football. I know the pain of constantly falling just short too well. The fact that we are so consistently great as a team, but can’t get over the hump is so frustrating. I have never seen my team win it all.
Kyle is excellent, and genuinely didn’t do much wrong. I’m not even convinced running in the third quarter would’ve been magically successful, and allowed us to sustain drives into points. Although I would’ve like to see Elijah Mitchell and Mason to get some touches, rather than run CMC even further into the ground. Our O-line was a weakness all year. Honestly our defense was incredible for most of the game, even with the huge Greenlaw injury. But Mahomes really did feel inevitable at the end. Ray-ray almost saved the muffed punt after it miraculously bounced off the foot of a teammate, and I wish he had just dived on it. We can talk about the extra point, and sure, it could have made the difference, but I get the feeling Mahomes would’ve went down and scored a touchdown anyway. But if we had gotten that 3rd down conversion, then we really might have been able to seal it 😭.
Oh well. I’m excited to see what the team can do next year! And I’m loving Purdy and what he brings to the team! He is the real deal, and the scariest part is he could get better

Losing Armstead is bad but getting Hufanga back and pairing with Brown would be a great secondary. Lenoir and Mooney Ward are also a great corner duo.
Also Steve Wilks was… mid. Yea you can talk about Gannon not being the best, but a Steve Wilks led defense almost lost both the divisional round and NFC championship game. I’m okay with promoting someone in house and having Staley as some wild card. I think Bosa, Hargrave, and Fred is enough talent to work around with.
As for offense, I don’t want Shanahan to run CMC to the ground. 27 for RB is like 31 for QB; you might fall off if your body can’t take more hits. Give Mason and Mitchell some runs and let Purdy do more. You can call him all you like but he’s a great decision maker and you should trust him to do more.
A lot of teams will get better next year, including the eagles, so it’ll be a tougher shot, but you can’t really do anything but thug it out imo with these information

Fun Fact!: Both the Chargers and 49ers have not won a Super Bowl since the 1994 season where they faced off against each other. However the Chargers have had it worse as they were literally put in the film Final Destination.
The Chargers have had 8 players from the 1994 squad tragically die before reaching age 45, with their median age being 36; the most notable being Junior Seau. While some died from drug abuse, car accidents, heart issues; other players had some straight up freak accidents. Like Rodney Culver who died in a freak plane crash with his wife, and former linebacker Doug Miller who was struck by lightning while out doing research... twice...
It gets even more bizarre when you examine the origin of grief. Diane Painter, the ex-wife of Chargers quarterbacks coach Dwain Painter, killed herself in her Pittsburgh home as she was devastated at the sight of her ex-husband beating the Steelers in AFC Championship game which sent him to the Superbowl. Shortly after her funeral, Diane Painter's daughter & son had her cremated in order to place her ashes at her favorite spot at Mendocino Cliff, near San Francisco, where a rogue wave dragged both of them in dangerous waters killing Debbie Menta (Diane Painter's daughter).

SF won OT coin toss and chose to receive, got a field goal falling just short of a touchdown. Chiefs then knew exactly what they needed and they had four downs to do it even when deep in their territory. They had a fourth and 1 early in their possession, and had to go for it to stay alive. I can't help but wonder if after getting blown out 55-10, Elway put a hex on the Niners that they could only get to 5 Super Bowl wins, with that 5th one coming 5 years later, and then endure torture and pain for the next who knows how many half-decades*. What else could explain their past few decades of agony? The injuries that ruined Garrison Haarst and Steve Young in back-to-back years (1998-99); the near-decade of being one of the worst teams in football (2003-10); the Kyle Williams fumbles and yet another brutal NFC title game loss at Candlestick to the Giants (2011); their blackout-started Super Bowl comeback getting spoiled in part by an iffy no-call (2012); their gut-wrenching NFC title loss in Seattle where basically everything went wrong (2013); Jim Harbaugh basically getting kicked out because management didn't like his coaching style (2014); the few years of being either dogged by injuries or a total laughingstock (2015-18); the Kapernick kneeling controversy and his departure (2016); blowing the Super Bowl to the Chiefs (2019); everyone and everything getting hurt (2020); squandering a magical run with yet another double-digit collapse in yet brutal NFC title loss against yet another division rival (2021); running out of QB's (2022); and now blowing yet another Super Bowl to the Chiefs in part due to Shanahan potentially cementing his choker status almost as well as Mahomes cemented his superstar status (2023). I'm sorry the list was so long, but this franchise hasn't helped!
*Yeah, I know they won it in 1994 (and they put up 49 in that game in their 49th season, which sounds like perfect jinx material), but their 1990 NFC title game meltdown to the Giants where they lost Montana and their title game losses to Dallas in '92 and '93 are just too brutal for me to leave out.

Last night their best offensive assets were Christian McCaffrey, CMC and Ed McCaffrey's son... and he ditched all of them just to prove that Purdy is an elite QB (he's not).

Any NFL team : (ends the first half up 10 against the Chiefs)
The Chiefs: "So you have chosen death"

Fun fact: The 49ers' most recent Super Bowl win is now closer in time to Super Bowl I (28 years before) than it is to the present (29 years later)...

Since 2010, The 49ers have lost in the NFC Championship or Super Bowl in 2011,2012,2013,2019,2021,2022, and 2023 seasons.
That’s more than Aaron Rodgers with the Packers! We are sleeping on SF as a choke artist.

indeed we are look at that shit a span of 13 years they reached NFC title game or further 7 times 0 rings to show from it talk about terrible conversion
meanwhile the chiefs season wise AFC Title game or further
      2018,2019,2020,2021,2022,2023
and they have 3 Rings from it
      much better conversion ratio
as a Jets fan i am salty af because pre 2019 season
they were just like us a half century drought lot of bad years and disappointment
yet they have won 3 Rings in 5 years
and were still the Jets why the fuck couldn't it have been us

Yet they want to talk shit about the Packers after winning now 5 playoff games?? Between 2010-2023, the Packers actually DO have a ring!!!
I’ll take it further, between 1995-2023, the Packers have TWO rings!!
What does San Francisco have?!! Only chokes! 😁

And if you did exclude 2019 here.
That’s 3 back to back years of them failing to win big time battles for the NFC and the Super Bowl titles.
      That is brutal

That Greenlaw injury was just painful to watch. Not sure if it would’ve impacted the end of the game, but it still sucks
