SECURITY NOTE! Tavarish, first of all it looks incredible, great job. I've noticed that you have powder coated ALL mounting points/surfaces. On a long-term perspective the powder coating will break-up between the mounting surface and the tightening will get lose. I've noticed this phenomenon on several of my and friends track cars. Please make sure to clean the mounting surfaces before tightening, especially on the brake calipers, engine mounts and subframe to the monocoque. It will work like you did especially for display purposes, but if you drive the car, everything will get lose sooner or later. Have fun and good luck with the project. Greetings from Germany
Good point.
He needs to see this.
Yeah, really good point, very surprised the powder coating guy didn't point this out or ask about it.
@IamtheLordofDoom think he was to busy doing lines😂😂😂😂🤣
Man. The logistics and just getting these people to work with you on a crazy project like this has to be such an ordeal.. Insane that we see meaningful updates this often. I am a forever viewer and glad to see Jarred doing so well. Hope to see him in some of your future builds.
Guys at Tachyon are so cool, they all clearly love what they're doing and they're brilliant at it!
Yeah, everything in this episode is worth separate video, but to have original companies like tachion to do actual R&D to Tavarish project, just as for actual McLaren company is beyond amazing. If it manage to arrive at SEMA, it'll blow everything else out of the water. Really a proof how RUclips car community is big and interconnected by comradery.

@@kevinscheffer3980I don’t think you need to be from the Netherlands to know that, since they say clearly in the video they’re in the Netherlands.

@@pieflies😭😂tell them lmao
CHEM major here. I love these videos and loved the fact that you used chemistry to save the harness. The reason you used the vinegar bath with salt is because vinegar's acetic acid will eat away at the corrosion while the salt was most likely added as an abrasive agent to help agitate the corrosion. If you applied a current to this, the salt would have acted as a great conductivity booster and probably helped the corrosion dissipate faster. The ultrasonicator used at the end with sodium bicarbonate and water just served as an extra step to agitate any remaining corrosion as it uses as the name implies, ultrasonic waves to agitate the water and provide further assistance to either mix substances or dislodge foreign objects (in this case corrosion). Along with that, it serves the purpose of neutralizing the acidic solution of the vinegar and preventing any further corrosion and damage when left out to air dry.
Isn’t your name Walter Hartwell White? Btw thanks for explaining!
Thanks captain obvious
The biggest issues is the zinc/Tin that was coated and protected all those components. And will corrode quicker.
Alrighty then 😁

Personally i love when you get “nerdy” (talking about your engine and the specs) and going to Tachyon was a real treat because i love the engineering behind super cars. I hope you do more stuff like that in the future and dont hold back when nerding out about your car!
We are all car nerds here, whether you want to admit it or not.

Thank you so much Tavarish for the turbo segment of the video. Finally someone who shows that the turbo engineering is vital to the process. We watch all these builders just go and slap the biggest Garrett turbos they can on their builds. I've had so many friends not understand that it takes more than just that and then they run into heavy lag, or blowing up their engines when they try to drive on the streets. Thank you for building and engineering a whole new one off driveable hypercar. I cannot wait to see the final result of your dream.
11 Parts into this and The Sand is still my favorite recuring villain.
Going to Tachyon is some next level youtubing. You didn't have to track down the P1 turbo OEM, but you did and interviewed them! That's crazy levels of dedication to the craft, and I commend you for pushing the envelope of car content once again.
Tachyon reached out to Freddie to say they can upgrade them and make them better . He didn’t track them down personally
I think there a ton of people in the industry that are truly excited about the build
What dedication and craft? 99% of the works is done by others and he doesn’t even pay them…
I really love this project Tav. And the team! It is such a joy to see you tackling all the problems and having your eyes set on the goal. Thank you.
I would definitely recommend finding a replacement wiring harness. I was an engineer for a connector company (Amphenol) for 14 years and an engineer for a wiring and cable manufacturer for 16 years. Contacts are plated for a reason and the plating has been compromised. The harness may work for a while, but corrosion will set in fairly quickly on brass or copper contacts that does not have the plating intact. I have done tons of environmental testing on connectors and contacts and the harness will definitely fail in 6 months or less. Hopefully you haven't installed the harness yet and are able to find a replacement! Good luck! Love you work and videos!

I find it incredible that Freddie hooks up with all the SOTA specialists all over the world and get's them engaged in his project. This is going to be the best P1 on the planet, and it is conceived and built in a FL garage by a DIY RUclipsr. Next level.
Why did we ever doubt Freddie when he bought this hot mess of a flood car. My hero.
It´s not a P1, it will be faster with an SMX engine on it and whatever 2 or 3 speed automatic transmisión with a torque converter, why not get rid of the engine if you don´t want the electric part who made the P1 a special mclaren and not only a 650s with a body kit?

I am 100% with Freddie on this one.
@@fcmancos884bro that electric system in the mclaren is outdated in todays world where electrical devices and accessories are advancing every year and evolving every decade. The P1 is special because of its body, engine design, and yes the technology, that was also being done by every other manufacturer and in some cases better. Gotta remember too at the time it was released it had some crazy rivals. Thus dubbed “Holy Trinity”. The P1 was special for a lot of things not just it’s out dated electric system that barely added any power and was even dubbed by the people who made the car “something to use wen you wanna show off”.

The frame doctor carbon work is beyond amazing
The beauty of CF is that as long as the structure is intact, you can always sand down and put another layer on top. The stuff is about as thick as a piece of paper, per sheet. It's also much easier to work with than something like Aluminum.
Yes that guy is a real craftsman. Major respect.
yes totally agree pure craftsman
Not gonna lie, I was kind of disappointed when Matt Armstrong found another tub for his build. I wanted to see the carbon doctor fly to the U.K. and work his magic.
I appreciate the effort and your work so don't get me wrong. This will be a fantastic car and an absolute piece of art.
That said, on removing the hybrid system, one of the big reasons it made so many people mad is that there's a unique charm in the original designs of all classic cars like the Toyota 2000GT or the 250 GTO and the McLaren P1 is the modern equivalent to these cars. These cars are celebrated not just for their beauty but for their authenticity; their value lies in their original features. In the case of the McLaren P1, the hybrid system is one of those defining characteristics. While the technology may be outdated, it was implemented with a specific vision. It's much like the carburettors in vintage Porsches and Ferraris. Notoriously unreliable and outdated, but altering these inadvertently dilutes what makes these cars iconic in the first place.
It's not about power or performance but about preserving the unique identity of the car. I understand the temptation to modernise, but sometimes, the stuff we consider outdated is what makes these cars irreplaceable and highly sought after. I get why you had to make these changes. It's such a shame to see that it's all been done to meet the deadline of SEMA. I don't mean to be a downer or come off as an asshole, as your work is incredibly inspiring, and I have no doubt that you're making a meaningful contribution to the automotive world. Keep up the excellent work!
i don't understand why he can't just do next years sema or w/e. why do people always rush to do a sema and take shortcuts when you can just skip a year. sema is every single year right? why not go the year you are really done and not rush?
It's not just SEMA it's also the cost to do that is crazy

I think you should probably get those connectors at least nickel coated once they have been cleaned and neutralised of the cleaning liquids. otherwise damaged bare copper connectors will corrode even quicker as time goes on.
not true. once copper is clean, it is not damaged. the surface oxidation was removed. they don't randomly now corrode or redamage faster as you say

The work you need to do is insane, and I doff my cap to you and the team. However I feel you’re rushing the car to get it to SEMA and if you weren’t rushing you’d keep the hybrid drive. I hear you on the power to weight ratio but given more time you could have improved the batteries and tech, making it better and had the fastest P1 that way. That being said I’m just a random schmo in the comments and you should definitely not listen to me 😂 Although I think it’s the wrong decision I respect it and I’ll still follow this build and all the future ones. It’s you and the team I’m a fan of as well as the cars

If Mr Tavarish is reading this, I was hoping if I could make a suggestion that you fit a air compressor where the hybrid system used to be, it could be useful to help spool up the turbos for full boost constantly, kinda similar to the Koenigsegg Jesko
Sounds suspiciously like a supercharger?
16:55 Okay, so something important, that you need to know Tavarish, is that Cerakote is a ceramic layer. It acts as an insulator, NOT a heat-disperser. The Gold on the original flakes, because McLaren cut corners and made the layer too thin, but the plate is functional for dispersing heat. This, is something you need to really be careful for, because if you replace a heat-dispersion device, with a heat-insulating device, you will end up having components that heat up... Specifically hot-spot temperatures on the components closest to the plate, are going to be astronomically high, compared to the gold-plated, or even bare aluminium plate. So please, do some research into this and make sure that you arent trying to reinvent the wheel here, because what this is looking like, is you're replacing a frying pan with an oven mitt. It may be called a 'heat-shield', but it's not there to block heat, it's there to disperse heat... BIG difference and one that can very well cost you dearly if it's somewhere close to any turbos... You're a mechanic, so you'll understand this analogy better, think of a car's radiator, it's made of metal, it's there to cool things down, that's what the shield is for, what cerakote does, is basically put a thick layer of paint on it, which prevents it from cooling stuff down... So you'll end up with a car that overheats with a radiator, in the case of a heatshield, you'll end up with a turbo that melts a hole into itself, warps, or melts wiring around it. Now I could be just over-reacting, for all intents and purposes, the Cerakote could work just fine, but what I am 100% certain of, is that you just change the entire function of that plate, a plate that McLaren designed and engineered to do a specific task... That sounds like a recipe for disaster, just saying.
@tavarish i hope u see this commnet.
Very interesting. What do you have to say about West Michigan Cerakote & Laser co's explanation of Cerakote?
"The high-emissive coating [of Cerakote] acts as a thermal barrier to auto parts, allowing heat to be dispersed and slowly released. This boosts the performance of engine components such as headers, manifolds, turbo housings, and more.
Cerakote also comes in a special low-emissive coating that acts as a thermal barrier but reflects the heat rather than containing it. This is often used on pistons, combustion chambers, valve tops, external turbo housings, etc."

I'm in the camp that says it won't be a P1 any more, but it IS your car, and you're welcome to go down whatever path makes you happy. My biggest concern is that there will be changes to the weight distribution and balance, which the aerodynamics were designed to match. This is something that could be important at over 200 MPH.

I agree with Uncle Rich on this topic. Screw what we think. Build what you want.

It’s just great to see your passion reignited Freddie. What a project. You’re just smiling from start to finish in every video and that’s lovely to see. Well done.
I get it, power to weight is the primary motivation. Speaking as an engineer though, every engine has a power curve. The genius of the P1 and its counterparts was to have an electric drive to help supplement the valleys in that power curve and make it faster on track. I can’t wait to see how your experiment goes, and if it will be faster!
It will certainly be faster. But.. yes, it will also be 3-4x harder to drive and a bit unwieldy as you simply can"t have large turbos without lag.
Thank you. The P1 hybrid system was never intended for top speed/peak power output
@@plektosgamingI think difference here is this car is helping to remake "creme dela creme" of car community in whole of youtube and beyond. Tachion made turbos for all original McLarens with or without hybrid, and as I see, they are doing R&D for this iteration just as for real new McLaren model. SO this is not your average, like "B is for Build" garage gang procrastination patching and filling in deadline for SEMA, this is becoming serious proffessional project just as for some race team spending millions of $ on their bolide.
@@ambientoccluser The only issue that I see is that the hybrid system is likely MORE needed.
Reading about it I learned that the original designers added it because the car was turbo-heavy and hard to drive. The system was designed to fill in the spots where the turbos are lagging or under-performing/haven't spun up due to low RPMs, since it's exhaust driven. The result was a car that was drivable and basically like driving any NA car - just with lots more power. I worry a bit about the end performance as this much power and turbo lag might just make it run worse. And, yes, I've seen that too. My cousin (over) built a 700HP Fox Body mustang back in the day and it was hilariously loopy. Basically a throttle like a toggle switch and zero refinement.
How can it run worse when the 720 which has no electric drive to supplement it's turbo and is already faster than the p1 whilst making less power than the P1, this will be the fastest P1 in the world cos it's lighter and has more power with a newer engine (720 engine) that's been modified to handle great power.
I loved the part about Tachyon! Always cool to learn about cool engineering companies that are out there.
Tav you are unbelievable! How are you even getting these collabs? The turbo Tachyon guys are amazing. McLaren hasn't supported the project officially yet but once they see where this is ending up they have to say something positive.
Totally redeeming himself after being hit with a unexpected sandstorm. Rich is absolutely correct. 10 year old tech is just a waste in your case. This is going to be epic.👍🏾
Thats why you upgrade it.
The engine is also outdated, and is being rebuilt and upgraded as a result. The logical thing to do (and I’m pretty sure what everyone wanted) was to rebuild and upgrade the hybrid drive system as well. Otherwise why bother with a P1 to start with, just use a 650 or 720.
Fastest McClaren, maybe but not a P1. Engine swap old classics may make it better but you lose its heart
Did you know there are engines with 3000hp or more? By your logic maybe he should have LS swapped it since faster is better right?
The hybrid system was them experimenting to see if they could lower acceleration times. And it does work. But dropping 400lbs off of the car is better. Plus, now he has a space for a second trunk/engine access. :)

@@sys-administrator who said anything about factory condition. Tavarish has the opportunity to show the capabilities of a modern hybrid driveline, and is instead going with the rather tired and honestly boring 'no replacement for displacement'.
Let me put it this way.... What makes a Plymouth Reliant different from a Dodge Aries or Chrysler LeBaron? If all of the underpinnings are off-the-shelf mostly universal parts, it might remain that model by VIN when you change the bespoke parts, but its not actually that model anymore.
Like, if I can take that custom P1 GTR kit, put it on a 720 and have the same result as what Tavarish is building here, but for substantially less work (and expense, and complexity), what then is the point?

Thanks, Freddie for laying it all out in this one! P1 Evo as a more spiritual successor to F1 is going to be amazing.
Only 0:30 seconds in and already that P1 is looking sick. Have a feeling this is going to be the best “P1” in the world.
The reason I was hoping to see the hybrid system kept was that in the not too distant future, modding our hybrid or full electric cars will be the norm. So it would be cool to see a build where you could pack more energy destiny in, improve the replacement cost over what the manufacturer quotes, and possibly get more power and functionality out of the electric drive system.
BUT! Great explanation for why you went the route that you did. I totally get it. No doubt, this thing will be a beast when complete, and a great nod to the legendary F1. It's very cool to see you strengthen the inherent weakness of a platform we all thought was so formidable.
I don't have the knowledge, skill, ability, or financial resources to take on a build like this, so it's a ton of fun to watch! Good luck on the rest of the project!
He can always add a new hybrid system whenever he wants. Maybe that will be the mod of the future.
@@kelvinkeme9397 Yeah very true, would be a cool project for after SEMA.
There are a lot of people swapoing in tesla motors into different things. That would be an interesting project hybrid, front electric and rear HP monster engine
Ive repaired boat trailer wiring where the salt water enters through the end of the stranded wire where it is crimped onto the connector. The salt water wicks up the strands of the wire and it looks like the insulation is fine however the copper inside the wire corrodes a few feet up from the end. You should strip back some of the scrap wires from the connector and see if there is any corrosion in the conductors.
can't wait for this thing to be finished! Been a amazing journey to watch
I'm really digging the twists and turns this project is taking. Getting to hear from engineers and designers from different companies who become involved in this project really adds something special to the history of the endeavor. Keep it up, gentlemen! I'm also starting to wonder if places like Gold's Gym will start stocking P1 frames for extreme power lifting. Ha!
The hard work he's putting in the car i cant wait for it to start and ik he'll have tears in his eyes when it starts cause i would
no words to define your job... simply fantastic!!!!
Great video, that frame looks fantastic, and it’s great to see it coming back together.
I can not wait to see the cluster light up tho for the first time.👍
You dont need to give anyone any explanation. It is your car, your money and you build it however you like it in any color and specs you see it beautiful. Good Job and the best luck to you!!
Not a fan of gold or Chrome. But, I think with how it is coming along. It will look amazing. I know this series has became my 6 year old son's favorite series. So, thanks for giving another series build that I can enjoy with my son. Helps give him ideas for a junk yard build we are doing.
I’m really enjoying this build and I can’t wait til it’s done and u prove that this will be the fastest P1.🎉
Freddie is pure heart of gold ❤ love this guy
The powder coating looks absolutely gorgeous. This Car is going to look like the gem that it is. It's going to look better than any P1.
All those tiny connectors have a plating over the copper to prevent corossion/oxidizing. By cleaning them in this method it seems you also remove this plating. Therefor exposing the copper. It might work really good in the beginning but could give many problems when all those exposed connectors start to oxidize/corrode
You are correct. And I'm guessing that the plating is tin. Same as marine applications.
Can connectors like that be re-tinned or is it an oem process?
@@ManBearPigCreative not sure if it is tin, silver, nickel or any other plating material. Is a OEM factory proces. I think it can be done at home with some kind of chemistry setup and the needed knowledge. But I think it is not worth the time and effort. The tiny connectors can be bought in bulk for low prices
@@377Han thats fair, i was envisioning some sort of quick dip or even hanging them all into a plating solution, but i agree that replacing the connectors would be far easier (in the long run) and more reliable.
I don’t know how you pull this off timewise, but it’s amazing! Keep going, looking forward to future episodes!
Totally agree, hybrid old tech and heavy. Great decision.
Man takes a lot of pride in his work, redoing that gold foil on the fire wall was very nice to see.
I love this series so much. Has to be one of the greatest build series ever. I appreciate you Freddy and everyone involved
I really liked Fingerprint workshop's Fiero build too.
The wiring cleanup montage was an awesome way to drive home just how much work this project truly is - great stuff
Never mind the battery weight, that original loom must weigh a ton!
Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉 I have followed this full Buit since the beginning I have to say that is amazing to determination that you have..💯😎
Can’t wait to see how Jack’s Evo is doing as well. I can’t believe the P1 has come on so much already.
Freddy knows how to tease the P1 EVO, so stoked to see the car rolling in the next episode. You got this man, lots of love from the UK. Can't wait to see this Epic MCLAREN and have my socks blown off!! ☝😂🙏😂👍
This is definitely my number one most favorite Zema build I've ever seen... 904 definitely representing
Black carbon and gold, really good idea ! I love it
Version one is freaking genius ! Sponsored points and show off the work! Return next year with a complete car! This man is a absolute genius!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 congratulations Freddie!❤
You didn't mess up. Chase those dreams brother!
Tavarish! You are the bravest (or the maddest) person on RUclips! Keep it up.
Other channels they see one panel that needs paint and they are so afraid of the metal work and the paint cost that they call it a parts car Tavarish has courage to overcome and learn and not afraid to put it all on the line. This is why his channel is the best.
