I think what I will do is make natural cordage to do this with and I will make a couple mats I have been cutting tall grass from my area everyday and have been walking it home and setting it out to dry then I will put this as my first layer for my shelter for this coming winter(; Thanks for getting my mind going on new ideas.
Instead of string you can twist most grass into a rope, it's less fooling around with string. While the rope isn't very durable it's much faster for when you are harvesting the grass.
Ticks are a part of our reality. Scorpions, snakes, ticks, jellyfish; each represent a unique hazard that demand a degree of awareness, precaution, & treatment options. Haven't had ticks in the mats but we certainly pick them off our bodies on a daily basis. An acceptable price to pay for the quality of life provided by the skills we share. I've had Lyme 4 times & have self treated w/ Japanese Knotweed successfully. We have a video on that as well. Type in Lyme & Japanese Knotweed to see it.
@BloodTar "survival minded" is an emergent level of consciousness. It indicates you still view the woods as a spooky place, or that you have to "rough it". As knowledge and awareness increases, so does humilty and respect, but the fear and struggle get smaller. You become a part of, not a part from, the landscape. Fear is rooted in ego, drop the ego, lose the fear. The huge difference between fear and respect is experience and ability level. Strive to do this for the joy it brings.
i have not try that,, how long time is it take to make one ? hehehe,, that is the bad thing with to put out stuff on the internet, ppl just copy what they see and not taking the courses, thanks for all great videos, fredde
@primitiveskills Uuh, if you have problems with the phrase "survival minded", then why did you label your video "Survival" Shelter..? You seem a bit hypocritical in your condemnations. I live in the mountains of Montana, my woodsman skills are top notch, and btw, you wouldn't last an hour in the mountains barefooted. No ego or fear here, just a lot of confidence and knowledge. You will always be separate from the landscape and never a part of it. Learn to live and survive in it,..period.
@BloodTar Thriving is more efficient than survival. If you believe your skills cant be developed furthur, than my hat's off to you for have gained what others have sought for millenia. Montana compared to Maine, much more biodiverse(Bitterroot Range). I recommed it to anyone, barefoot, mocs, or big luggy shoes that destroy backs & knees! Come out some time and share your skills, we're always out to learn more! You use a metal knife, rope, etc., and we won't judge you on it. It will be fun!
Well explained!
See now I need to go make this but make it pretty, even, and on a raised bed wish I could put a picture of my Idea here lol.

You could smoke the mat once its together.
What kind of survivalist minded person would run around in the woods in his bare feet?
Hi just a query that popped up in my mind, do you run any risk of having Tics in your grass matting beds?
id nail that at 5.34
