    Hadn't thought that FG-X parts were compatible in this way, pretty much just a drag & drop onto a MK1 or MK2 FG Falcon, you learn something new everyday. And a good little project you've done here, saving a good few FG-X parts since you don't see many about in new zealand & here in australia, using them to revitalize a bog standard & worn out FG XT. And you wouldn't even know that it is just an older FG either, a clean conversion this was.

    • @nonrasputin9260
      @nonrasputin9260  2 года назад +2

      For sure, almost all FGX parts fit up without modification, so it was straightforward for that view for sure. All wiring needed to be moved over, as the XT dident have curtain airbags etc, the rear light panels needed the most work and I also had to play around a bit to get the roof aerial in. But yes, totally an achievable conversion project with a bit of time and sweat. Thanks for the feedback mate, I really appreciate it

      exactly same car with a minor facelift. Only thing is, to get the ICC from FGX's into mk1 or mk2, you need the wiring harness etc to get it working. Having a donor car like they did helps massive as you can literally transfer everything over

      Hopefully I’m at the end of that saga. Fg dual zone climate. Left would only do cold. Right was making clicking noises. You can get the left motor and shaft out without pulling the dash! My left shaft was broken I used some of that instant metal putty stuff and put the end back on. Working good so far. And the right I don’t know about the shaft but you can get the motor off without pulling the dash too. I took that apart and all looks good inside it. Put it back on and wouldn’t work except as soon as touching the heat button it would go all the way to hot!!! Which is weird because it worked fine before except for the clicking noise. I know a guy that works at ford and he plugged in the laptop and the HIM had codes for “out of range” so I guess when I put it back together it wasn’t in the right position and maybe because the left broke that went too far. Anyway he cleared the codes and ran the learning procedure for it and it all works now!!! Touch wood it keeps working! I’ve been fiddling with it over a couple weekends trying to reset with battery disconnect and putting the motor in different positions. Nothing would work. Only today he plugged the laptop in and I haven’t really played with it since out of fear of it not working. But it was working good when he was here lol
      So long story short maybe before pulling the dash get a ford tech to plug a laptop into it.

    • @nonrasputin9260
      @nonrasputin9260  2 года назад

      Wow, that is some interesting learning! To be honest I’ve never considered going to a dealership for anything other than coding a new key etc, but that’s good advice for sure. Good luck with your fg, hopefully your heater whoas are over!

      Thanks for the positive feedback mate, I really appreciate it! This was the first car I’d gone that far on, in terms of going right back to the shell, but was quite surprised how 99% of the parts fit without any modification required. I guess Ford engineers saw the end was near and focussed their energy on the technology upgrades and transition styling for the last one, rather than powerplant, interior or chassis. Cheers mate

      @@nonrasputin9260 Sure does feel like it considering how this didn't give you that much of a hassle. I suppose Ford from the U.S wouldn't spring the cash for major updates considering the plant and the model would die within a few months. Knowing the Americans they probably threw the engineers a hunge and then said "Make it look like the new Mondeo".
      Still, it's a looker. Up there with the BA for the most looker modern Falcon ever if you ask me.

    How come you used the fgx engine and ecu is it just the completely different wiring? Would it be any good putting bits on an fg MK2 that already has the zf6 and how could you get the ICC and instrument cluster to be fgx in that case? Didn't ford change the tail light and headlight wiring on fgx for some reason? That would've been a pain in the ass to splice.

    • @nonrasputin9260
      @nonrasputin9260  Год назад

      The looms are similar, but, different enough to cause a big pain if I dident change it all out eh. The engine in the fg was higher km and was someone’s skid car, whereas the fgx was a low km crash, so decided to move everything over. All the modules are coded together, so you may need to recode if you swapped just one thing, I.e the Speedo etc. The tail light setup was a bit of a pain, I ended up cutting the steel mounting out of the fgx and riveting it into the fg so the lights could mount up properly. I don’t know if the icc would work in an fg2, as there are a few different inputs it’s looking for, like the Bluetooth receiver with integrated gps etc. if you can, score yourself an fgx write off and transfer everything over as it’s the most cost effective in the long run eh

  • @doug-core8850
    @doug-core8850 2 года назад +3

    Imagine if ford dealers did this as an upgrade.
    Anyways, how'd you go with the paint? Pricey??

    • @nonrasputin9260
      @nonrasputin9260  2 года назад +1

      That would be pretty cool, but I rekon they would charge hard eh. One headlight alone costs $1900 here in Nz.... Paint wasent too bad, as it was only the bits that got transferred over, not the entire car, i.e. just the guards, side skirts, bootlid, front and rear bumper, bonnet and spoiler that needed a spray to match coalfaces original colour

    • @nonrasputin9260
      @nonrasputin9260  2 года назад +4

      Getting a full donor wreck is way cheaper than buying all the parts separately, so I'd advise going down that route. Cost for the wreck is around 3-4k, the project car around 2k, the other cost is paint and fluids etc. Also, label absolutely everything that comes off the donor car, as it may be weeks before you handle it again, not so many stuff ups, but, the trickiest work was fitting the rear taillights, I ended up slicing the steel that the lights mount onto from the donor and affixing it to the project car, so that they would be secured as good as factory. The main thing is, take your time and plan things out, the rest is just playing swapsie.

      Lightning Strike silver or? loved that colour. Still doesn't beat Breeze or Mystic though. My God those colours are sexual, love the Vixen Red too, my XTs Vixen, ford colours just hit different

    What a waste.... Still an fg not an fgx. What's next.. you going to put a Mustang badge on it.

      How’s it a waste? The fgx was a write off with a damaged chassis and roof kink, the fg was a skid pig and destined for the scrapheap if I had not have bought it for the body. The way I see it, I saved two cars from being parted out and scrapped….

      He still saved the car so it isn't a "waste"
