Hello lads not too cosy i hope get off he said i am like you i hate working in the cold i remember glanding off armoureds at Ciba Giegy factory in Cambridge one winter and i hated it i was constantly nipping into the canteen to grab a hot drink to defrost and get back to work i think sparks should get a cold weather suplliment it just numbs the brain and you cant think straight. oh what wonderfull memories not well done for sticking with it.
Enjoyed the video. Lu looked freezing. Get him a HiViz Parker jacket or something. The weep vent above the Zappi looks iffy, as do some of the others. Keep up the good work.
If I was the client, I’d ask if you can fit another BG board replacing that PV monstrosity, two small black boxes are much nicer than that huge grey thing
Just purchased a 4 year old new build. It has an EV charger installed using 2.5mm T&A, with a 25A MCB on the consumer unit. Charger has been capped to 25A using dip switches inside the unit. When I plug my car in, as expected it’s capped at 25A which is fast enough for me. Is this OK or should I be expecting a house fire? 😅
Hi, is it cheaper to add the BG conser unit as you have in the video that to wire back from the internal consumer unit and have to use trunking and 5m of extra cable?? I mean, was the job classed S standard installation or was the BG unit an extra?
My mains is shared, it has 2 black cables come into the house it terminates in the DNO fused head then is wired into a 2 gang isolator before going into the meter. Who would be responsible in getting the DNO to change it to a "none shared" supply? I've put of getting an electric vehicle because of the shared supply & prefer a petrol / Diesel as its easier to fuel up & I do between 50 & 150 miles daily. Therefore don't trust the range of electric vehicles so far, OK they might improve in the future. I'm just curious of who would be responsible in contacting the DNO, the electrician who fits the charge point or the garage supplying the car?
This supply is not a shared supply but if it was the right action is to notify the local DNO as they will split the supply usually free when its for an EV install. It is usually down to the bill payer for this but the electrician has to notify the work after. I had a shared supply job the other day and had it confirmed by the DNO I could carry out the work before it was separated. No garage will ever get involved in the install of notification
nice install, been looking at the outdoor ccu's from BG. 16mm tails on 100A fuse? If this is acceptable i'd be happy to do this myself I always use 25mm but they are a right pain sometimes!
No. DPC is a lot lower, nearer the ground. That is a decorative feature, a corbelled course. Something that "looks nice " and possible adds a few £££ to the price of the house.
Working in Norway no need to have Permission from DNO No JIB No ECS No CSCS No Black card yellow card No UKAS register no United Union registered No Ring circuit only in the UK i see all those 15,000£ to have all those things to work

thanks buddy the video didnt do it justice on how cold it was for me and Lewis
Nice video Mike looks like you needed a wind breaker down there
That would of been amazing
Nice install Mike, your work is always top quality.
Thanks buddy 👊

Top tip!
Always use the Green/ green & white pair:
Solid Green +
Green & white -
Should be easy to remember with “Green” Hawk
Why use the green pair? Is there a reg that requires it?
@@metrotechguru5863 Not at all it's just the company name is GreenHawk so it's easier to remember. You can use any colour twisted pairs 👍
@@brad30 OK. I thought you might have known something I didn't about which wires must be used. Thanks.
I can only imagine the temperature in which you are working with.😮
Very nice install lads. Too bad about the big grey PV box, but it wasn't your fault. Looks might stupid.
A few weeks working up north by the coast in January stripping 35mm h07 in a glorified tent, that was awful too
Heat shrink over the ends of the cables in charger would be a neater termination.
Invest in a good heat gun, use it to warm up the sheathing of the cable making it easier to work with.

Why did you not fit the tails back entry?
Her one for you how do you know if your on the end of a looped supply?

Where’s the Carhartt/Klein beanie from?! Mike from Residual Current has one too but I’ve idea where you boys are getting them.
you have to be a very special boy 😂
The new ev fuse box should have been placed below the meter box . Would have looked neater.
Hi I am not an electrician, I would like to ask is there a reason why the live feed does not run from the consumer unit to the wall charger, thanks
Because they can charge the same and it’s 10x easier, it is purely for convenience. However, this is the dangerously way to do it.

You don't even need 16mm as it's a fixed load which will never exceed 32A hence you can use 10mm or 6mm double insulated tails. 👍
@@brad30 see what your saying. What if say someone came along and wired a 40A hot tub from the EV board?
@@jonathanstephens7804 Then the installation wouldn't be compliant with the regulations so the electrian would be at fault.
@Brad Current Carrying capacity of cable read BS 7671 a 100 amps fuse needs at least 25 mm meter tails.
DNO sponsor you to do that?😂😂😂
i wish😂
You shouldn't even be fitting henly blocks in the meter box
Plinth Course? Damp proof course.

No NICEIC no napit required in another countries only in the UK
Typical solar monkeys making it look a mess with an ugly box and cables scragging about.

It is all a cartel, they all piss in the same pot and are milking us all out of money.
Technically you can do this install with only membership of a competent person scheme such as NAPIT which is £420.
That is all that is required.
