For our periods, look into period cups!! It has saved me in every instance in my life, it also cuts out the smell so when you’re rolling with your partner they won’t smell you. I’m always nervous about that😅
Please keep making videos like this!! I am getting ready to start jiu jitsu!!! And I have no idea what I'm getting into! But I wanna get strong and be able to kick ass!!:)
I usually avoid training BJJ on the first day of my period because my cramps are just too bad, but after that no problem. I use a cup, never let me down!
Thank you so much for this video. I have been contemplating joining BJJ. As a girl and never having been so athletic I am hesitant. But every inch of me is wanting to join. My reasons are the discipline the learning and the mental aspect of it. Thanks for these videos.
Menstrual cup or softdisc and Thinx period underwear if you're worried about leaks. It's the combo I use for backpacking so should work great for class :)
Im pretty large breasted .. so i wear a plain racer back Swimsuit over my sportsbra. Ive never had my cleavage in someone's face no matter how tough the PLUS i never have to worry about my (very not flat) tummy being exposed if my guard vest/tshirt rides up or my gi opens.
Thanks for the video! I’m considering starting soon. Perhaps you could post a video about what other conditioning you do that complements your BJJ training.
Try talking to instructors in your area and let them know your situation. If you're not a loser and you have a legit reason, they may be willing to help you out or may need a janitor or a receptionist for trade.
Self defence, finding myself again after years and years figthing mental health, to be independent and to try something new after 16years as a top athlete in a different sport :)
Benedicte S. Lunde All of those are very very legitimate reasons to try BJJ. Have you ever been injured? This is my biggest fear since I dont have health insurance...
ive been in a abusive relationship and work with people with aggression problems soooo BJJ seemed like the best way and only way to make myself feel safe again, plus it's a good workout and great fun. whatever your motivation is do it for you :)
What about odor down there (lady region) from all the sweating? I get extremely self conscious and find myself having to step out to use the bathroom every so often to use feminine wipes. But, it's very inconvenient having to step away when learning technique.
Thank you for your video! Hey this is my first class after 3 classes I did before the covid started. How do you remove from you mind the bad thinking of it’s wrong plus very uncomfortable feeling when rolling with a man that’s not your partner and plus being ok not traumatized when your partner will be rolling with women too. This a total new thing for me. I joined because my husband want us as family to learn I can still feel so wear and not wanting to role with men all sweaty. If any of you have positive and good recommendations please post. Thank you!
I've had 3 babies and pregnancy has wrecked my body, resulting in diastasis recti. How would you recommend I get started when I have absolutely no core strength?
Hi Marjorie! I'm currently looking for a place to learn jiu-jitsu in my city and I was wondering whether you think it's better to start in an all women's program or a mixed program. I'm not nervous about the idea of sparring with men but I'm nervous about being timid... any pointers?
edotblair Hello! Starting in a women's program would be great, however, they're hard to find. I started, and have since been, in a mixed program with men and women. It might seem awkward at first but within a few weeks you get comfortable... and that's coming from a woman (me) who always gave one-armed hugs and kept my distance lol. The best pointer I can give you is to be patient and try to be comfortable around both men and women for training, or else you will have limited partners. :-)
Is there any contra indications to participating in bjj regarding vision impairment? I had to quit judo because of the whiplash and fall impact. I miss it. I asked my eye specialist about doing another martial art, but I don’t think he knows the difference between any of them. I think he thinks they’re all full contact mixed martial arts UFC
BlindKattBlues BJJ still has takedowns and use judo throws, but I would still think with vision impairment that you can still participate in BJJ. In fact many times when I roll, my eyes are closed anyway and I go by feel. Hopefully you started BJJ and it’s going well!
What a good excuse. Even if that is the case, then this matter shouldn't even come up in the discussion if they're coming straight from work because they can't do anything about it then. If they can, why not just not wear makeup or wash it off before the class ?!
If you're lucky, it'll work but you're going so move around a lot and a pad tends to get out of place really quickly. A white gi holds no secrets. Of course you can wear a maxi pad if you're comfortable with the others knowing (in case you have a thin gi). Just do whatever you're happy with :)
I wouldn't wear a regular one, because we move around a lot. So a night time pad (or whatever they're actually called in eng) because they're longer and more likely to stay in place.
+Kadia D DEMBELE 24 is sooo young! I wish I would've started at your age. Trust me, jiu-jitsu is growing with females and you will soon see that there are many others who are your age and much older. Perfect time to start!!
There are some girls in my class that never clip their nails. Right now, I'm having a bandage around my middle finger because when we were playing a game one of them accidentally sliced open my finger from the joint to the nail. *Please. Clip. Your. Nails.*
I disagree with the don't wear a pad advice. Wear a tampon AND a pad. It's pretty common to put in a tampon and 45 minutes later it's all full and starting to leak. I'm always very glad to have the pad on in those instances. (also, it's strange to me when people feel so weird when they talk about periods. There's nothing wrong with it at all.)
I watched this video 5 years ago. You were THE ONLY BJJ female on RUclips and it inspired me greatly. I train 5 days a week and fought my first MMA fight last year. THANK YOU!!!!
That’s amazing to hear! Love hearing of other BJJ females training!! Congratulations on your MMA fight! I don’t post much anymore but still train daily.. or at least chase my 4 year old on the mats every night of the week 😅
@@marjorieonthemat548 Awww.. that's awesome!! Congrats on having a child!!! Did you train when you were pregnant? I think about that.. like ok.. just no knee on belly and we're good. LOL
The thing that makes me more self aware about the period isn’t the spotting issue but the odor or having somebody else’s intimate parts rubbing on my body. How have you addressed this?
Period cups- I have found it blocks the smell since it captures all the blood. Seriously, find a good fitting flexible one that moves with you and you’re set👌🏻
I always try to wear clear lip balm but last week i forgot one day and got pink lipstick all over some guys white gi. I was mortified, so embarrassed. Lol. This week he stayed far away.
#9 Jewelry... especially rings, brackets, and earrings. Applies to some men also. Often easy to forget to take off and not always assured that someone else will notice you are still wearing them. Nothing is easier or hurts more than getting jewelry caught in a sleeve and having your knuckle wrenched or part of your ear come off. Leave them at home or bring a bag or container specifically for them. Also... really easy to loose. Home is best. Car isn't a bad idea also.

I'm trying to convince my wife to train with me, I started 4 months ago and she has come to two classes with me but won't commit. She does cross fit but got sore in ways that she didn't expect. Any tips?
Bullets and BJJ I know of other husbands who really wanted their wife to train BJJ, some stayed and some didn't. It might take some time for her to decide if its for her or not... constant bruises, broken nails, hair ripped out, and facial breakouts... some women will deal with it all and become addicted to jiu-jitsu, and others decide its just not their cup of tea. Only time will tell, and if she ends up staying, she may become more into it than you! Maybe...
Decades of training sisters, girlfriends, and women friends who think they are 100% willing to commit has taught me just to leave the welcome matt on the door, figuratively, but don't pressure. Don't have any expectations regardless of what they tell you initially, that way you wont be disappointed. The martial arts, done correctly, is a lifestyle and that isn't easy for most people to commit to. That's my opinion for what its worth, anyways.
@@BigBadassR But it's not a lifestyle and you don't have to commit at all. That's one of the great things about fighting sports. You don't commit to a team and you're not losing any licenses if you don't train. You can train whenever you want and be content with any level of skill.
Love your video sweetie. I am 47 yrs old and I am signing up up for my first jiu jitsu class this upcoming week. Any pointers you might be able to offer as far as what to expect on the the first day?
Marjorie On The Mat. I just started talking Jiu Jitsu class a month ago. And for a guy, there are times it's kind of awkward when partner with a woman. My instructor is a woman, and she's good at diffusing awkward moments between man and woman. I was wondering, if you have experience any awkward moments practicing with a man? If so, what do you do to move pass the awkwardness?
I usually put my hair in a french braid, does the bun work better? Never had good luck with tampons and the cup also leaked. Although it's not too bad for me since I only have a couple heavy days, so I skip those and use period undies on the light ones. Need to get some black pants 😂
Lol after practice we all get off the mats and change right then and there, guys and girls. Luckily we always wear a rash guard and spats under our gi. Or just a sports bra and put on a shirt directly after.
I'm a guy but I had long hair when I started BJJ - never figured out the whole "how to keep your hair under control thing" so I just shaved it all off in frustration. Wish I'd had this information back then...
Can I add lip stain to the make up list. it doesn't come off at all. Also. I'd like to know the etiquette for accidentally touching personal areas. Do you say sorry. Pretend you didn't notice. For me and the guys.

I really suggest switching to a menstrual cup, mine never leaks and last much longer than a tampon. It makes periods so much easier!
I used these. They are great. But they will dislodge your coil if you have 1. Happened to me and my friend.
Well at least I don’t have to worry about a period. Do you think this is something good for someone such as myself to start in their 50s?

So what do you wear under the guy for the top? Shirt? Just sports bra? Rash guard?
Marjorie On The Mat. I just started talking Jiu Jitsu class a month ago. And for a guy, there are times it's kind of awkward when partner with a woman. My instructor is a woman, and she's good at diffusing awkward moments between man and woman. I was wondering, if you have experience any awkward moments practicing with a man? If so, what do you do to move pass the awkwardness?
thank you so much this was very helpful and for a being a mom your body is amazing your so toned and fit💪👌
Thank you! So glad this video was helpful!!
Great stuff! Love that you are doing this channel!
What about judoka ?? Hahaha
6 years….for a blue belt ?
I usually put my hair in a french braid, does the bun work better?
Never had good luck with tampons and the cup also leaked. Although it's not too bad for me since I only have a couple heavy days, so I skip those and use period undies on the light ones. Need to get some black pants 😂
French braids are great! Just gets pulled apart when grappling for me. My hair slips out easy so buns are good for quick fixes. 😊
Ah true, it often ends up being a messy bun at the end anyway. If I have time I do pigtail French braids and those stick pretty well.
OK 👍👍👍
Lol after practice we all get off the mats and change right then and there, guys and girls. Luckily we always wear a rash guard and spats under our gi. Or just a sports bra and put on a shirt directly after.
I'm a guy but I had long hair when I started BJJ - never figured out the whole "how to keep your hair under control thing" so I just shaved it all off in frustration. Wish I'd had this information back then...
I watched this video 7years later..
I love this thank you ❤️
I know zero about bjj and I'm more endurance than strength. But here I am.
Can I add lip stain to the make up list. it doesn't come off at all. Also. I'd like to know the etiquette for accidentally touching personal areas. Do you say sorry. Pretend you didn't notice. For me and the guys.
If you're thinking about that, you're probably not thinking enough about advancing your position.
@@MrCmon113 Just passed my blue belt. So I think not.
