    I loved Sociopath! I haven’t researched her phd, I don’t know why I would, it’s a memoir so I read it as a personal story to gain insight into what it might be like to be a sociopath, not as a factual book or a moral guideline. I get what you’re saying about her privilege and criminal actions, but again I didn’t read that as her saying that was good. She’s trying to find ways to not do those things, and to gain empathy and understanding for a disorder that everyone seems to judge very harshly. Which is understandable to a degree, but she’s also human. You obviously don’t have to like it 😊 I just thought it was interesting to hear your thoughts so I wanted to share mine! Also love Curious incident of the dog in the nighttime, read it several years ago and it stayed with me ever since!

      @@tiachu I did some googling as well, and it seems that most people who question her seem to question her PhD credentials, which of course is relevant since she claims to have them, but I would be more interested to verify that she has the diagnosis she claims, if anything. Meaning, I'm not taking her story as scientific/medical fact, but I don't want to read a fake personal story, like a non-sociopath pretending to be one. Although I guess that would be an intereting personality type as well... 😅 Not saying that she is fake, just that I think that aspect is more relevant for what the book is, at least the way I read it. If nothing else, it's a great topic of conversation haha

    I *loved* The good girl's guide to murder series but after that? I feel like Holly Jackson went a bit downhill for me... I tried to start her other two standalone books but I ended up dnf-ing them at the very beginning just because they weren't grabbing me the same way? That sucks :(

    I loved reading pride and prejudice when I was younger. Jane Austen wrote that so beautifuly for what used to happen in her time period.

    • @crazybiogeek
      @crazybiogeek 3 месяца назад +1

      Pride and Prejudice is a favorite because all of her characters are so fun, for different reasons. They ferment drama.
      Emma is a favorite because gosh darn, it's rare that I'm inspired by a fictional character like that. I want to be more like the Emma at the end of the book, who has grown as a person. (I can go on and on, but I suppose even a book that old can have spoilers so I'll stop.)

    I'm guessing that you're listening to Pride and Prejudice? Cause maybe you just need a version with a different narrator- it can make a lot of difference. Books from that era are often meant to be read aloud, as it was a common form of entertainment for people to read to each other. (Something the families do with each other in Pride and Prejudice- except no one wants to hear Mr. Collins' selections cause he's boring af. lol) The right narrator makes it seem like an evening of family entertainment, and the wrong narrator is like going to church with Collins preaching. Anyway, I hope it becomes less of a struggle!

      This is so interesting thank you so much for telling me this wow. I AM reading the audiobook, I think the pacing definitely picks up the latter half of the book!!! Your comment about them “fermenting drama” is exactly like. Exactly how it is I love that description hahah
