I spent 25 years in the Army and my personal weapon was a 9mm Browning Hi-power which I shot rather well on duty and in competition, fast double tapping, but, this guy is way faster and super accurate using a `revolver`! I salute you sir and give up.
Historically the Hi Power was more successful than the 1911. At least in proliferation and to how many countries adopted it. The 1911 .45 was really only popular in the US. The Hi Power is a Wonder Nine.
I have a Hi Power Practical and it's excellent.
One word for JM: PRODIGY
Which army? Curious
@heavilyarmedhippie75 yea that's what I'm thinking
9 mm is a pssy gun. Anyone can shoot. In the corps we had the good ole 45. As for a scope on a pistol. Lmfao. I prefer the 44 mag s&w stainless.
Me and my father (the same age as you) enjoy you a lot. From South Africa. He used the FN FAL in the Border War when he started out in 1974. He still have to show him your FN video.
Where did all the time go? I started shooting IPSC/USPSA back in the 80s. I remember aspiring to "get some" up to the level of Leatham, Koenig, Boykin and of course Miculek. I was a match director for the local club in Idaho Springs, Colorado one year when we held the Mile High Showdown and Leatham showed up. My only claim to fame was I beat him on one stage of fire. Of course, he smoked me for the match. That's as close as I ever came to the level of shooting those legends did in their sleep! Fun video, Jerry.
29:10 "Got lucky."
Mr. Miculek, your incredible firearm prowess is matched by your wonderful humility.
By far my favorite video. Everything else is cool and shows major skill. But a V drill with 3 different size .44 mags in different weights and barrel length and sight radius and 3 guns with 3 different triggers, in that short of time shows amazing skill. Even with that little short 44 your recoil control is amazing! I was not expecting a miss, but it was an amazing performance. To be able to come up with this and run it for your first time ever and with full power .44 rem mag loads is just mind blowing to me. If it wasn't on tape I wouldn't have believed it. I hope to be half the shooter you are one day! Truly my idol! And the bill drill was pretty impressive too! But I must say out of all your videos even the record of 6 reload 6, this is the one that impressed me the most by far! Not sure if it's because I love a good .44 Rem Mag or what but it's just amazing. Something that I highly doubt anyone else could do first time ever trying it and defiantly not in a time like that or that smooth, and only 1 got away from you with those amazing machines. Love everything about it!
Sometimes I forget I'm watching a video and it feels like sitting down with a friend and listening about guns. Pure legend.
Luckly i got my 1st 29 a month before dirty harry came out, i paid 165.00 for it and got a box of cartridges.
Want your money back? I just purchased purchased a 29-3 unfired for 1000.00
@@johnnyholland8765 You dun good
I just paid $1350 for a 29-2 8⅜.
@@johnnyholland8765yeah, you sure did good!!! I paid 900 OTD for my 629 classic deluxe with the 6.5 inch barrel.
Well, first off, Jerry you have no idea how much influence you have on people who watch your videos. As a fairly new shooter, I had avoided 44 caliber for a long time since most shooters in my area threw rocks at this caliber due to its difficult to manage recoil. After seeing your video on 44 it gave me final encouragement to just go and buy the same model DS Classic in 6.5 inches barrel from the local gun store. I will never regret my buying decision, this thing is so fun to shoot that I am now getting into reloading this caliber to save money on this expensive ammo. Thank you man. Just subscribed to your channel as well. Cheers.
Anyone who can shoot a 12gauge can handle a 44mag.
Yeah .44 can be alittle intimidating, I got the .629 in 3in a few years ago, it has the pretty round butt wood grips so it’s a Bear to shoot! My dad whose a ex Vietnam vet Marine who has a Sharpshooter medal and a Marksman medal and whose always been a deadeye with any weapon refuses to shoot it anymore, he says it beats him up too much with the magnums, he’ll only shoot .44 special in it! I can only shoot maybe 25 or 30 magnum rounds a session then I’m done also! Lol
Tony Bains you can reload light ie 44 special loads and shoot all day uh well longer 😳
You should try a .454 next 😁
And how many S&W was sold after this video 👍.
Jerry of course I read everything about Elmer Keith growing up. I shot a 7” super Blackhawk and reloaded Elmers load, as a hiking companion. Once I was walking in shin deep fall leaves and heard a loud rattle. I jumped up on a fallen tree to get out of the leaves. A big rattler in a bad mood went under the felled tree that I was standing on. I was terrified and shot through the tree and splattered the snake. Who’d a thunk that I could actually utilize that ridiculous amount of firepower.
I saw Dirty Harry 50 years ago this month at Grafenwohr (the major training area for all US forces in Germany) wanted a Mod 29 but was told by the manager of the post R & G Club that it was totally unobtanium...for at least three years...or more. I December of 1973 - just 17 months later - I got a call from that manager telling me there was ONE left sat the S&W bonded warehouse in Ulm that they were fixin' to close...did I want it??? Oh Hell yes!!! It was only $205 .50...I called my dad to ask for a loan (wee had to take possession of any weapon bought on the day of delivery (all were kept in the company arms room) pop loaned my the money (I'd spent my savings on a ticket home for Christmas to surprise mom & dad - couldn't tell them that....the pistol arrived in late January after I'd returned to Germany...in all my trips to the local (German) range - I prolly shot it less that the Germans at that range...they were fascinated by it and I'd let each guy shoot as full cylinder of that round...I started reloading for .44mag & Spl; when I came home in July 1974...the same manager (Ernest T Gambill) talked me into buying an RCBS Rockchucker press with all the necessary impedimenta...I still have that press and the micrometer adjustable scale and the original 'tube o' lube - but NOT The pad...sadly the pistol was stolen in Ft Lauderdale in 1982 - where I'd moved to in 1979 from the People's Demokratik Republik of NJ...I've lost the police report in those 40 years since - but I still have the import tags that were required to bring it home (along with 5 other firearms)...I might even have the bill of sale

Him and hickok45 bought the same blued model 29 in 74, cool
I noticed that too. They should do a Miculek and Hickok45 44 magnum reunion shoot fest.
So did I. :)
Even us teens wanted one. The S. Blackhawk became the a popular gun with a lot of us because we could afford one.
Jerry would have 18 rounds off before Hickok45 could load a single revolver. I don't mind watching Hickok, but too much he talks more than shoot, and is very deliberate and slow in his shooting/loading/aiming/demonstration. I'm not in a hurry, but Jerry runs at a pace that keeps the viewer interested.
I'm impressed by you all who noticed that, y'all should be P.I.s
@2k Nicki Minaj, lol end times must be near
I could listen to you for hours, Jerry.
Thank you for all you've done for our sport.
The ultra slow-mo of watching Mr.Miculek fire these beasts halfway through the video is awesome. His grip is so solid!!
Love this gun! I’ve been collecting the 29/629 for 30 years... Favorite gun of all time. Thanks for the great video of my favorite gun...
I love how he still gets that excited about shooting after doing it for 30 years... Haha
kidney stone
Yes,me too.He keeps me motivated to keep on shooting.
He has a great soul, that is what that means...
Like a fat kid loves cake

Jerry, your videos have been truly informative AND entertaining. Thanks for all the effort you put in to make your experience and knowledge available to the shooting community.
Your enthusiasm for the sport is contagious. You are fun to watch as well as informative. Thank you for your great videos
I bought my first 29 in 1973 with a 6 1/2 inch barrel. In 1979 I bought a new 629 which has a 6 inch barrel and put Pachmeyer rubber grips on it. The last 44 magnum I picked up was a like new Ruger Redhawk with a 7 1/2 inch barrel. Over the years I have cast my own 240 grain bullets using a 50/50 mixture of linotype metal and wheel weights which served to make the bullet metal extremely hard after dropping the cast bullet in a bucket of water with a towel in the bottom to cushion it after casting.

I have to admit I have been a fan of Elmer Keith for decades, more so than "dirty harry. I enjoy the .44....a lot. All of my Mod 29's are 4 inch. When I hunt (especially horseback-mule packing) in Montana/Idaho I carry a Mod 29 in a chest holster, if a bear or cat comes towards us or the livestock I can draw and shoot from horseback while holding the reins OR have it close and handy in the tent at night and works well to stall until you get a rifle in play. I hand load lower velocity round and when shot from the heavier N frame it is great. I really appreciate these guns. Thanks Sir for the video's.
Great to see you have some fun, brings you back to being a kid sometimes. So much information here, for me, your the guy for sure Jerry, been following you for years and you’ve helped me improve my game as a competitive shooter. Thanks for all that you do my friend.
God bless you brother.
If you do what you love you'll never work a day in your life. Jerry's livin' the dream Get Some lol !!!
Love his enthusiasm and that laugh after shooting the first target was infectious 😂👍
I pick up my 629 DX with six inch barrel this Wednesday. Can't wait. Thanks Mr. Miculek for building up the anticipation.
Classic video with a classic shooter with Elmer Keith's favorite round. Two legends at once.
When you start chuckling and saying "Get some!" I can't help but laugh right along with you. Great videos. Please keep them coming!
Life IS good Jerry! Thanks for sharing your enjoyment of all aspects of handgun shooting sports.
Jerry is very informative and entertaining. I would take months of reading to obtained the Knowledge Jerry shares via his videos .
The difference between Jerry and most shooting enthusiasm is that Jerry is so good and he figured out a way to make a living at it ..I always liked shooting but spent most of my time and money riding dirt bikes and snow skiing..
Very difficult task for anyone , but we are facing one or less , the best shooter of today ! Long live Mikulek!
👏👏👏

Love my ported S&W 629 -- stainless, 6" barrel. Definitely my prized revolver followed by the S&W 586. Thanks, Jerry for another great video.
Porting is one reason I am nearly totally deaf now!
Jerry you are really amazing and fun to watch your humor tears me up when you blast the target keep it up your fan! San Diego Ca
You are having too much fun Jerry.
Thank you the more you smile and laugh the more I do
Its amazing the difference between full power magnums he started the v drill out with and the either specials or light hand loads he used the second time
Yeah, that was a huge difference.
Yeah, pretty noticeable. I’m not sure so many noticed, though. I’m actually a bit disappointed that Jerry didn’t disclose on those second runs he was using reduced power ammo. I guess a good magician never reveals their tricks.
I have the 629 Classic in 6.5" BBl. The exposed back strap, not covered by the Hogue stock grip allowed the stainless grip frame to hurt the webbing on my hand. So, I ordered the Hogue grip for the 500 Smith and it fits just fine. No problems, and it covers the back strap completely and keeps the web of my right hand from getting sore. Really helps with the recoil. Try it, you'll like it. The fit is 99.8% perfect.
Saw a 629-3 classic today with a 6 3/8 inch barrel today. So just like yours basically. Guess for a short amount of uses they made odd barrel lengths like that. I may buy it possibly if it sits for a few weeks. Was priced at $689. Had hogue grips too. How much you get yours for??
Jerry , You are The Best in firearm instruction, plus entertaining and easy to follow.
Your a showman in all the right ways. Not corny but very informative and fun. The best part being you fill in the gaps between the time I can make it to the range.
I had several of the 29 over the years including the 2.5" 629 that was magnaported. Great pistols for hunting.
I'm a little late finding this video (5 yrs) but I'm glad I found it!!! Awesome video!! Thank you Mr. Miculek!! The S&W 29 44 magnum is one of my favorite pistols. If I could have only one pistol, S&W 6 inch barrel 44 magnum would be the one!!
The 629 & 627 models are my favorite Smith & Wesson models of all time. Beautiful collection Jerry!
Funny I just acquired a 29 classic in blued with a 6.5 inch barrel. I absolutely love it! Its super accurate and just a super fun handgun to shoot!
that too is my first .44 magnum. 8 3/8th pinned and recessed 29-2 blue. wish it had the original grips, though.
You remind me of my father in law, He is deceased now and was my best friend. We both loved to shoot and I really enjoy your videos! Bill was a great guy and I bet it would be a pleasure to spend the day with you!
Harry Ballzonya remember the good times and he is everywhere that you are
Seriously still my favorite movies ever. I try to watch at least a few every year.
I really enjoy the fun you have shooting the different mediums on the range. wish I was there
My all time favorite handgun. Nice shooting, Jerry.
I really enjoy watching these videos, and everytime I learn a little something new. Thanks for taking the time to make them.
no matter how many times i watch this, it never gets old :)
Same for Me lol Jerry is Incredible
Saving for an model 29 now. Love your collection there Jerry.
16:04 made my heart happy to see 👏😊🇺🇸 Kickass Jerry!!!
I just bought a model 29 Dirty Harry special a few months ago. I also own a 629-4 Mountain gun which I have had for more than 20 years. You were holding up your mountain gun when you were talking about the cylinder tolerances at 6:23 - 6:41. The mountain gun weighs 4 oz. more than a k/L frame 357 magnum. I also have a Colt Anaconda with a 6 in. barrel which is also very smooth shooting. Thanks for another great video.
Great to see some real handguns and having fun with them. Jerry, you are the best !!
Jerry; that is the most incredible feat of .44 mag pistol shooting I’ll ever see! You are such a fun friend to shoot with. Wow. I shoot a .22 now
Thanks for video. I love my 6.5" model 29. I bought some nice Hogue wooden grips....... great shooting .44 Specials. The magnum loads truly are awesome. Sure wish ammo prices were less.
Jerry I bought a Model 329PD and put a Model 629 stainless steel aftermarket cylinder on it. Titanium can erode and be pitted so I used the stainless steel cylinder. Also had mine quad ported by Mag-na-port like you. And I use a 500 S&W magnum sorbethane padded rubber grip on it. Love mine!!!
I own a S&W629 Classic 44mag
My first high power handgun.
Thank you for the great information Mr Jerry 😀
I caught you Video of the .44 magnum, was awesome, and a little inspirational, the old girl might be moving on in years, but she hits as hard as she ever did. Great movie.
Thank you Jerry, I have a model 29 4 inch -2 in nickel and trying to do research on production date has been tricky. By watching this video you have helped me tremendously. I know it sounds silly but I had a had time nailing down the 29- 2 because I wasn't sure if SW didn't put the 6 in front of the 29 and I was missing that piece of information. If anyone has more information on production dates or any relevant information concerning my model and production dates or numbers please let me know. I love all you content and find you a constant source of inspiration in my shooting. Take care thanks again for your hard work.
My Opinion is that the 44 Mag is pretty much the most powerful handgun that is practical to use.. Yes you can Hunt Deer and use in defense in Bear Country ..
Revolvers are nice if you reload .. easy to save the brass...
Nice shooting! We both sound the same with the 44 mag. Lota fun and always, what a Rush! Thank you Jerry.
I love my S&W 29 with 8 3/8" barrel
Has been the most dangerous man in the world for years no one I mean no one can handle the 44 like this man does
I must say, I really do like my new production 629 Classic 5" and my understanding is that these newer guns are more durable because of the better metalurgy and heat treating. I dont plan to run warm handloads in it 24/7, my hands cant take it but it tames a 305 gr Hardcast BB load really well.
I really enjoy watching your videos. My son and I were laughing at the tipping MGM plate after taking six 185 grain slugs. I think it was the "get some!" that really got us belly laughing.
Your talk about the four-inch revolver and developing a flinch made me think of my four-inch Redhawk (in 44 Magnum). I have a blast shooting that big-ole revolver and even shoot the thing double action. My boys think I'm nuts but there's nothing like the feel of a big-bore revolver. It's a buttload of fun.
I spent time with you at Creekside gun shop in holcomb ny . It is out of business now but it was a riot watching you shoot and interact with the spectators. I miss those days.
"Get some!" I love it!
Excellent video, first gun I purchased was an s&w 629 power port 44 mag. Still a favorite
Also back in '72 high school kids brought their Model 29s to school in their backpacks
Thanks for watching and commenting you've been shortlisted among my giveaway winners, To claim your prize, Text the above number 👆🎁🎊
I love that Lee 310-gr (ready to load weight is about 315-gr) bullet. I cast it and an RCBS 250-gr (ready to load is closer to 260-gr) Keith bullet for my 7.5" Ruger SBH and my 4" Model 29 Classic.
My two favorite bullets for .44 Magnum.
Thank you jerry for your video. I own 357 magnum and watching your it really help me a lot. I hope l’ll get better shooting my S&W 357 mag !!
Watching that ring of fire coming outta that barrel during slo mo is awesome.
After the Dirty Harry Movie I went & bought the M29 in the 83/8 BBl also Still using it today with some great Hand Loads & Cast Bullets when out Deer Hunting etc & Even bought the same Lawmans Leather Holster that he used also. Both are still my favorite Gear. Love shooting the 44 Special Ammo out of it also For a lighter Load.
"I noticed a little bit of recoil there" Understatement of the century!😁
If Im in a bad mood, watching Jerry and seeing his smile, hearing his laugh snaps me right out of the bad mood ! And remember, "Not all red cabbage is created equal!" Get Some !
I remember my Dad and I going to a lot of gun shows and gun shops and right after Clint made the first Dirty Harry movie we couldn't find a gun anywhere for a reasonable price. Dad finally found a brand new stainless model 29 about three years after the movie was out and paid the $1,200 price that the guy was asking for the gun brand new in the wooden presentation box. I tried to talk him out of it but his reasoning was that he was getting older and he wanted to shoot it while he could still shoot and handle the gun. He had plenty of money so he bought it. All of his kids were all grown up by then and he finally had a little savings by then. I am so glad he did it now because the gun was passed on to me before he passed. It's a beautiful gun that really shoots well and now it's mine to pass down. Smith and Wesson is my favorite handguns, they have always made high quality guns. I have some 6 shooters from the 1800s that shoot just as good as they shot when they were new and are still tight a they have no slop in their structure for being that old. Good shooting Jerry! Thanks for doing this 44 mag video.
Jerry, I graduated from H.School in 1971. You talk about that being your snake gun. You are right, down here in Southern Louisiana you might need a .44 mag to kill some of the snakes I've seen down in the Atchafalaya Basin. We use to shoot those gar fish too but we were shooting alligator gar that some of which ran upwards of 7-7 1/2 ft. long and weighed in over 275 lbs and some were even heavier but we couldn't weigh them that time cause we didn't bring a scale. But they were all of 8ft long and we estimated them at about 300lbs. Oh yeah, and the logger head turtles, I caught one that filled up the trunk on a 65' Mercury Monterey one time.
When I started in Law Enforcement Officer I carried a Smith-Wesson Model 57 in 41 mag, 4" barrel till we were allowed to carry a 1911. I did carry a model 39 CCW/off-duty. I now am retired and I carry a Smith-Wesson Equalizer!! Thanks Smith for protecting me my whole life. Carried a Model 15 when I was a teenager.
Thank you Jerry, really good video.
I'm about ten years younger, toolmaker and I wish I had your iron grip.
I try to shoot .44 as best I can.
Another really nice model 29 is the Lew Horton 29-3 .44 with the 3" barrel, round butt and beautiful finger grove combat grips. I think they only made about 200 in 1985. Great little .44's.
That's not enough barrel
"Snake Gun?" I'd hate to see the snakes where you're from.
VonArgylle The point is to make the snake fly up into the air so I guess a howitzer would work for a bear.
SimplePhil Lol I used to live in Louisiana. Lotta snakes there. Big ones, too.
I WOULD rather use a Judge with some # 6 shot on snakes..
The snakes hate to see Jerry coming!
They make awesome snake guns. Some of my fondest memories have been building watergaps on the Medicine river with my brother shooting moccasins with my model 29. I don't know why but it's soooooooo fun.
I've owned three .44 magnums, all S&W. Two were 4" and I used those for action shooting, LMAO! But they were so much fun, and the 'acoustic satisfaction' could not be equaled.
I can watch Jerry talk about the Model 29 all week! Still love the 4" and the even shorter ones the best.
AllAhabNoMoby oh noooo I’ve owned past tense, or I own
If the former I sympathize with you loss 😳
Of all the 29/629's I've owned, the 6.5" 629 with the full lug is the most pleasurable to shoot. Also, the most accurate.
But Jerry has got to have iron hands to shoot a .44 in DA that fast... ouch!
Actually not all that bad from my own personal experience, but I didn't have the cool timer that he has either :-/ Even though I'm a single handed shooter, you don't need "iron hands" to DA this revolver; just use the included Hogue combat grips, and it'll soften up considerably over those lovely, but painful wood ones IMHO.
Watching that metal target fall over was funny , watching it fall in slo-mo was Awesome!
Chuck Norris Lies sleepless at night Knowing Jerry
Miculek
Doesn't ever miss.....
This dude is an artist with a gun.
Always wanted a 44 mag revolver. Decided to grab an AR10 recently instead, but the dream is still alive. Also Jerry is a legend inspires me to be on the range early and leave late.
Keep the dream alive! I did it opposite - got the Model 29 first, then the AR-10, LOL.
I love my early ‘70’s model 29!!!
My friend who introduced me to pistol shooting back in the 70's graduated the same year as Jerry.I was spoiled because he started me out on the good guns S&W 29's Colt Python's and a Colt 1911 Gold Cup. I traded in the first 629that I had owned. It was a stainless Dirty Harry style. I believe my current 629 was built in the early 90's. It is a 629 Classic with a Power Port. The gun has a full Under lug and Hogue Grip. The Gun is much more enjoyable to shoot than the original style 29
I agree he is the perfect example of a man who is happy doing his job. Wish I could ever get that.
that nickel plated 4 inch in the middle is BEAUTIFUL!!
Bought a Pre 29 6.5 inch barrel and love it. Smith and Wesson quality was something else back then. It is impeccable. Ik Dirty Harry’s is a dash 2, but I still do the line whenever I shoot it 😂
I get tickled over YOU getting tickled. You're a hoot and a holler! Your personality is fun and contagious. Love the videos, and the laughter. I'm an old dog who appreciates others near my own age who, while practicing safety with firearms, can still allow a good time to be had. Your videos aren't stiff, but more relaxed. Thanks for all the fun you include your viewers in on.
The Go-Pro footage in this video is amazing.
My pops had a Ruger Blackhawk in 44 mag then traded that and got a super Redhawk . Love the 44 mag!
Learning the history and then seeing it in action thanks for the video
Impressive recoil control!
Great video! One thing I did notice was the second V-drill was shot with way colder loads and much less perceived recoil.
Ohh yeah definitely shifted loads or moved to .44 special. I can't fault him at all though, that's a handful to shoot twice.
The Halo out of that Mountain Gun was awesome :)
That second v drill the ammo was alot cooler. If you watch the slow mo of the first one you can see massive fire balls. The second time there's only smoke coming out of the barrel.
Read at 22:05
yup
I saw that also and wondered why. "Cooler" ammo? O.K...… Here's another: Did you wonder why, from right to left the ring of fire that you could see in slow-mo got more pronounced ? Can anyone explain that?
Wow, bad ass knocking the targets over, love your enthusiasm!
have a 629 classic and 29-3, accurate and smooth , different than my super and regular blackhawks but still kick.
That 4" shoots one hell of a halo in slow-mo!
AluminumStud
Yeah, talk about a “Ring of Fire”!!!
