That Iceman sprite is godly, giving a character who is "made of ice" a mostly immobile sprite then adding those auras at the wrists, constantly spewing ice bars, showing off how much power he has in store that just staying there maies ice from *thin air*.... It doesn't get enough recognition!
I was a teen when these games came out and I still remember the excitement of seeing each of them new in the arcades, starting with children of the atom. Psylocke was always my favorite in that one.

I remember being fascinated with how Cyclops body inflates as he breathes in the character menu screen as a child. That and Psylockes sculpted body. Even as a 5 year old, I knew that chick was hot.
I remember being blown away by Capcom's CPS2 graphics when Darkstalkers hit the arcades, about 5 months before Children of the Atom, if I remember correctly. But X-Men was special because I knew the characters so well and they looked and moved spectacularly. And yeah, Psylocke is animated especially well...
The fluidity of the sprite work is what caught my attention first back in the mid 90s. Sprite based games simply did not look this amazing anywhere but the arcades back then
I love Iceman’s pose, it’s underrated really, makes me wish in the Comics that he had some martial arts training. It’s always been a thought of mine that any power that allows you to create construct could be improved if you’re able to physically move your body more fluidly.

It's a shame the xmen movies weren't that good. Kids who grew up with the MCU don't realize how cool the Xmen were in the 90s. The Xmen cartoon, then see those same designs (and here the same voice actors) in all the Vs. games. I often find myself playing all these old games whenever I go to conventions. Just like they were new.
Even though Cable, Gambit and Magneto’s games voice actors were great, I wished the used the actors from the 90s show. Colossus had a different actor too but I prefer the game actor for him
They got greedy. People make infinite excuses for it but that’s the truth, because they would have had to pay artists and animators what they were worth for it and they decided to just pay scabs who would graphically do it for a fraction of the price.

When games were fully developed. I still love the details of these animated sprites. They show off so much personality of the characters. I love the detail of the idle animation. The little details of finger movements, the movement of the arms or legs. Wolverine’s claws looked so cool in his standing stance.
CotA has the most amazing 2d animation next to 3rd strike. It is insane how many animation frames they had to cut going forward, especially Marvel 2 cause of the everyone-is-here roster. I can't wait to finally play this on my Switch.
Nobody (before or after) brought the Marvel Comic characters to life in videogames as accurately as 90s Capcom did. Modern developers just do their own inferior designs or lazily model them on the mocap actors.

What I liked most about Capcom games in the 90s was the style of their Sprites that differentiated them from other companies like SNK. With all this, has anyone ever wondered what would have happened if SNK was the company in charge of making these crossover games with Marvel?
Guess Imma be the only one here to point it out but Sabertooth's idle animation doesn't look complete. His sprite cycle ends unlike the others who's idle sprites cycle smoothly if that makes sense. Sabertooth's idle animation just resets every time.
I think is deliberate, since his hair and back fur move as if following the sudden "reset", it's kinda like an spasm. Weird but it kinda fits the weirdness of other characters animations like Cyclops legs inflating or Psylocke trembling as if trying to control her strength.

If I remember correctly, Sentinel sprite is sectioned, meaning each part of his body was separately animated!

If we had gotten Children of the Atom 2 instead of Marvel Super Heroes I'm sure they would have been in along with Mr. Sinister.
Beast had cameos in some endings back then at least, Kurt had to wait till UMvC3 to appear through a Heroes and Heralds card.
If Capcom ever Makes a Marvel Vs Capcom 4 and No Infinite don't count I will love to see Nightcrawler in a New Marvel Vs Capcom Game.
Beast would fit better now with how they made the combo palette. Nightcrawler would've been a way better Spiderman for sure😂

Jean had an incredible sprite in Children of the Atom. She was not playable, but appeared on Cyclops and Wolverine's endings.
Man, I love this stuff. Sooooo much character expressed in such an economical sprite work. This will always have a special place in my heart.
Compared to Street Fighter Alpha, Capcom focused more on Marvel sprites' detail and fluid animation.

Fully developed? MvC2 is horribly unbalanced and riddled with bugs. It's fun, but let's not act like games weren't being rushed out back then too.
I never liked how they articulated each claw as if they were fingers.
