I went back to the 5 and waiting for the 9 as my kids got the 7 and 8 while dad went back to the 5! 5 is basic (for 2024) but I only use it for jump rope, freestyle and and indoor cycling and it’s good enough. Love the bands for what they are! I’m waiting on the 9 ❤ Only downside for me was going from Zepp to MiFitness and the migration. I lost from 2015 to 2019 data which was gutting but most of the had migrated to Apple Health so not alllll was lost. I went back to zepp…
Does it have a Wheelchair activity yet? As a wheelchair user, it's always kind of annoyed m how it'll track something like tug of war, but wasn't able to track rolling. :) It's a frustrating thing, because there's a formula you can use to convert walking miles to rolling miles. it works out that 1 walking calorie = 0.857 rolling calories. So you would just have to modify the walking activity to turn it into a rolling one.
The weather isn't really that nasty, I'm still in shorts and a T-shirt indoors and for walking tirips. I DO like the Mi Band shape. But consider getting a metal strap for it, my silicone strap was swapped out within a week.

@@shaunrichardson2440 If you have a Mi Band 5, 6 or 7, I don't recommend buying it. Because it's not too different in terms of features, just a bigger and brighter screen. But if you don't have one, the Mi Band 8 is very good in its price range, the only comparable good competitor is the Huawei Band 8.
Great review. I've been getting back into wearing proper mechanical watches but I miss the tracking and notification pop ups of a smart band so this seemed like a good option as it looks quite a bit more like a bracelet than a smartwatch (at least if you get the right kind of replacement strap), so it wont look as weird if I wear it with a watch in the other wrist
I just noticed that when you say "please subscribe" the subscribe button shines... that is cool, I mostly watch on my phone but that is a nice trick. Also does this work as well on iphones?

Not sure why you would get this at £40 or more rather than the Xiaomi Redmi watch 3 active at £31 with the same app and facilities + it's much more usable bigger screen, better watch faces and bluetooth phone facility ? Pity there's still no NFC payment on any global Xiaomi device ☹️

Returned mine on the first day. I just wanted a watch with a heart monitor but this watch needs to be connected to the xiaomi app on your phone or it bricks itself. I set up the watch then unpaired the phone, then the watch went back to the QR code screen and refused to function until I connected it back to a phone.
Hi, I know this reply is very late. There is a setting that stops waking the screen (unless you touch) after it becomes late at night. But you can disable that

Yes, it does, but in my past experience (mi band 6), it did not sync automatically in the background with Health like an Apple Watch would. You have to open the mi app to let is sync.

I don't really care about the fitness stuff because firstly you don't really need it and secondly, it's going to be very inaccurate because of how cheap this thing is. I was mainly going to buy this for the features, but it turns out that there is nothing actually new. I have a mi band 4 which I bought in 2020 that is still functional to this day and I just don't see the need to buy this.
Would prefer if it was more rectangular with rounded edges (like a tiny smartphone) and slightly wider but slim. This oval shape is pretty disappointing, you lose ~15% of screen space with this shape.
Is there an example product at a similar price point that does have it? It doesn't have built in GPS but neither would I expect it, these are cheap mass market devices , not mid or top tier products with all the bells and whistles
i had miband 4 before i bought this 8. the new one is worse in all senses. less battery time, crappy timer app, crappy alarm app (it vibrates until you press the specific button which is annoying), it is huge compared to old model, also they locked the firmware in some way so you can't use alternative software to pair the phone. unfortunately I cracked the screen on the miband 4 so have to find a replacement, and the 8 is going to my relatives I guess

The technical details shouldn't outweigh its health purpose 😢😢😢 I've been hours on RUclips looking for this info and NOBODY (you can check for yourself) has their camera lingering longer than a few milliseconds on the heart rate display. So sad

i had a screen protector for a previous version and if u plan to get it wet or wear it in the rain then the adhesive peels off
