I feel genuinely sorry for those who never got to experience a true leader like Whitlam (despite his faults) - even if a later generation had a kind of Whitlam redux with Keating - while Gough's vision for Australia (and one that hopefully still lives on!) is the total antithesis of the smug 'lifestyle' aims which the current mean and miserable post neoliberal excuse for a 'government' is the apologist for! If anything, Gough challenged us to 'grow up' and take our place as a responsible member of the international community, while Scomo's 'bugger the world' and beaches and barbies 'vision' is about 'non-growth', with that conceited 'aspiration' being a further stage 'petit bourgeois revisited' throwback to Howard and Abbott!
