    This must be the clearest and simplest video on fitting an extra earth. I am considering doubling up on my existing earths and 12v main power lines. Like this clip a lot. Keep up the good work.

    Good video! Mine has the extra strap but is start-stop. If older models didn’t have this then well worth fitting as the strap from engine to body is often low down and rots out. A cranking clip before and after would have been interesting to compare the sound.

      Thank you! 🙏🙂 Definitely worth fitting, the last few days since we fitted it has been perfect no issues at all! Will remember for next time! 😉

    I put an extra earth cable on my Freelander 1 TD4. Made quite a difference to the electrical gremlins until I found the culprit.
    Strangely it was the display binnacle, the cars computer systems main junction is in the back of the binnacle!! Only landrover🤔

    Part 2
    If you wondered, the circuit board gets cooked in the sun and the solder cracks. Sends the electrics crazy. Mine was an auto transmission, it would display F4 fault randomly. A second hand binnacle sorted it.
    Don't know if this is of any relevance to an FL2.

    Where did you buy the earth cable? Is 8mm both ends fine to use?

      Hello! It was off EBay 🙂 should be, 10mm hole one end, 6mm hole other end and cable length 915mm 36inches. Link to the cable we brought! I have a TD4 that doesn't have said earth cable and I think I need to try adding one. I don't suppose you remember how long the cable has to be?

    Hi.
    I got a freelander 2 2009 manual. I think i have this cabel you mounting in this video then.
    I have an cold start issue, with sometimes a HDC fault message. I have read some forums on this matter and it seems that an extra earth cable from negative to the bulkhead is the solution, but cam you tell me what/where is this bulkhead? Im from norway so its not all the technical/mechanical words i dont understand. When i try to google freelander 2 bulkhead, your video came up, and also some picture of a bulkhead, but for me its looks like the whole front wall between the inside of the car and the engine room?🙄

      @Stian
      Hello! 👋 Ok, we attached the second earth cable from the battery to the starter motor, not the bulkhead. Would recommend checking your battery condition too if the problem has started in colder weather. Let us know if we can help anymore 🙂

    Hi I’ve got on my sd4 hse starting problems when pressing the start button it’s doesn’t want to start then kick in and fires up just replaced the battery to a bigger output but still doing on forums people saying bad earth did you have the same problem as did this cure it thanks

    • @FrenchiesRoadTrips
      @FrenchiesRoadTrips  10 месяцев назад

      Hello! 🙂 Hmmm that’s an odd one! The most notable problem we had was flickering lights but did have other issues like the dab radio module failing which I think was related. Fitting the second earth cured our problem with the flickering lights straight away! It could well be this. Might be worth plugging in a diagnostic scanner if you have one just to make sure there isn’t anything else at fault. Hope this helps 😁

      Useful video. I see the additional earth mentioned a lot on forums.
      One thing that’s always worth doing when working on the battery is to remove both terminals & after a few minutes touch them together.
      This resets all the ECUs & can be useful for clearing Random faults.
      On the autos it also resets the gearbox

    What electrical issues do you have? I'm also considering doing a 2nd earth strap.

    • @FrenchiesRoadTrips
      @FrenchiesRoadTrips  2 года назад

      We had flickering / pulsing lights on a cold start. The DAB module packed up and the alternator has failed twice 😂 However since putting in a new earth, no lights flickering or pulsing. Keeping fingers crossed 🤞

    Watched this video and still don’t understand does it work? why you needed? What is the story behind? Why shouldn’t you need to fit seconds earth if there is only one fitted from Factory.

    • @FrenchiesRoadTrips
      @FrenchiesRoadTrips  Год назад +1

      Hello! 😁 It did work, I probably should have uploaded another video after! 🙏 We have since sold the car but fitting this second earth cured the problem. The car would only have the problem in the colder months. It took ages to diagnose. The problem was during the colder months unknown to us the HSE spec has an automatic heated windscreen. This was activating and when it did was causing some sort of electrical interference. It would cause the lights on the car to flicker and fluctuate in engine revs. Fitting this 2nd earth fixed it 🙂 Hope this helps 🙂

      Was it discharging battery overnight before you fit second earth cable?

    • @FrenchiesRoadTrips
      @FrenchiesRoadTrips  Год назад

      @@MrDevelishBoy Interesting question! 🙂 We did carry out tests on the battery and very interestingly it was not charging correctly. We changed the alternator to start with and this cured that issue but we still had the flickering lights and pulsing. Took us a while to diagnose it was an earth issue 🙂

    • @MrDevelishBoy
      @MrDevelishBoy Год назад

      Alright. So yours was different issue. On mine 2017 model there second earth wire from factory. Just battery was old and keep discharging so fitted brand new fully charged battery. Two days later locked car discharged it down to 7V.

  • @lowerorchard
    @lowerorchard Год назад +1

    So has it made any difference?

    • @FrenchiesRoadTrips
      @FrenchiesRoadTrips  Год назад

      It did! The car suffered from an electrical stutter and it only happened in the winter months. We managed to track it down to when the front electric windscreen was turned on. Something in the HSE does automatically too! After we added the second earth it was as good as new! Took us a long time but definitely worth looking at. 🙂
