Awesome video! Thanks for teaching me how to install a new vinyl floor in my bathroom. I had a leaking toilet flange, and the only way to properly repair it was to remove the existing vinyl floor and damaged sub floor, then replace the floor. I had never done any of the above before and was a bit overwhelmed. Watching your video really set my mind at ease and allowed me to do it myself with your knowledge. Very thorough video. Thank you very much!!
Glad it helped!
This is was what made me attempt to install my own vinyl flooring. I watched it, bought the materials, and did a 23'×8' room without issues. Thanks for walking us through step by step. Awesome video!
Did you use they same type of patch/skim coat product
My wife and I followed these instructions, our bathroom floor came out great. Another excellent tutorial, Thank you.
I just laid vinyl flooring and got some glue on it and it dried. I used nail polish remover to remove the dried glue and it worked great and did not damage or discolor the vinyl. My little tip, that I thought I would share. I used contact cement to lay my vinyl.
I've watched several tutorials before tackling this vinyl floor project and I found this one to be the most informative.
Vinyl is really great for apartments! Helps save money in the long run and personally I think it looks great!
Thank you. Been avoiding vinyl work for ages. Gonna try a commercial vinyl on my van floor. This video helped convince me to give it a go. Cheers
you gave me confidence to replace our floors out of necessity. great video!
Dear Shannon,
Thank you for your calm, clear help. I have a new vinyl floor and a toilet on the level and not leaking.
You took your time and explain as you go on what to do with the install. Well done, Thanks
This is the same vinyl i have bought it from Home Depot a couple of years ago, just wanted to see how you cut it against the wall, i had this in mind just wanted to make sure i will install it soon in the kitchen and then do the living room with laminate floor with the pad under it then i can put up my antique grandfather wall clock and those antique pictures Thanks man I'm saving this video for future used 👍
Thanks for this very informative video. It is obvious you take great pride and care in your work. Thanks again for sharing.
Very good video, clear, concise and covers the details of the job. Excellent.
Thank you Shannon, your videos are so helpful!
Shannon, I've watched a lot of DIY videos on RUclips but yours are consistently better quality than any others I've seen. I always find myself looking for your videos when I have questions about how to DIY something. Thanks, and keep up the great work, you're really helping a lot of people!
Thanks for the great video, I will be doing a bathroom floor similar to this one in a few days and this is an awesome refresher course!! Mine is a tear out and as you mentioned clean up before laying the new vinyl is key, as well as acclimating the new material to the house temp and humidity. Thanks again! Subscribed!
When I do the Job Like this I like to finish painting corners to same time painting again.
Laying around the Pipes it's best to cut from middle and using tool get a round hole to keep it tidy.
I watched your video when I was roofing my house and I learned a lot from watching these videos.
We're having luxury sheet vinyl done in our entire house this weekend. I'm so nervous. It's so expensive and I hope I made a good decision. Thanks for your video. I really like how calm you are.

Absolute guru. Your a champion mate.
Great video
Got my bathroom floor changed .
never done it before this video was very helpful
So depending on the glue’s set time ive seen different ways to glue the vinyl. Some glues require the glue to get tacky first before laying the vinyl. I could see this working both ways. Just dont want it to slide or bubble up. Preparation is the key to a flat beautiful vinyl floor!
Nice video....i just did my bathroom and used Allure tiles from that Home store. Keep up the great vids. Want to see how that room ends up looking.
Thank you very much for sharing this, because I had no idea on how to make my cuts around my bathroom pipes and flange........
You freaking rock! Very informative in an easy to understand way. My kitchen has carpet that I need out ASAP, but no time to get tile laid anytime soon. Can't wait to throw down some vinyl, and glad I found your video so at least my temporary floor will look decent in the meantime. You've saved me a lot of hassle!
Great video chap, you're very professional and very detailed.
I'm a DIY moron, these videos are so thorough, and helpful it really gives me the confidence to try to tackle one of these without getting halfway through and having to call for bail-out help from a pro. Thanks for doing them.
+allenmonroeiii you're welcome, that's what the videos are for, DIYers and those who want to learn.
Great Job. I usually use the pattern method with rolls of paper but beyond that we do it the same way.
Hello from Iceland. Here we always use a self leveling compound to skim coat the underlayment also. But we have noticed that if you use fiberglass thread and mixit into the compound it responds and flexes much better.
This is the right video that i have been looking for but i just want to glue the edges because i have the same kind of vinyl and it's doesn't get stiff easy to roll out Thanks again 👍
this was wonderful. THANK YOU! this helped me get started after I had been sitting for weeks paralyzed by fear if making a mistake. the tips you told as you were working helped me install a very attractive bathroom floor! great channel!
Jenny Truch
when skim coating use a larger trough. like a 12 inch long and spread backwards in east to west strokes but making the trough swirl to turn back but not leaving the floor.
I've had some experience with the thinner perimeter glued sheet product. In a desert climate where it gets really hot and really cold, that will cause it to pucker and bubble up, even if the original installation laid flat. We had to go in and glue it all down.
If you have a really fat dog you can drag him around on the floor to get the air bubbles out. They really seem to like that...
lol
best video ive found so far
Thanks for doing this video, It will help me for sure in doing my own flooring!
+Penn78 Thanks for watching
Thank you for making this video!
Really nice install. I would have rolled the vinyl from the tub back toward the door to glue halfway and then from the doorway back but other than that great work with the knife and pretty speedy.
I understand why he did it the way he did because he was worried bout' that one seam. Lol, I would hire Doc to do vinyl floors anyway.
nice job! Enjoy your expertise and tomorrow I will put his video to practice on my brother's basement remodel. Did every phase so far and youtube and the many trades people (like you) have been a great teacher!
good luck tomorrow
we got it in... real tough trying not to tear corners. 12 x 17 foot piece in bath, kitchen and laundry area separated by a wall
Well Done👍👍👍. Explained everthing you need to know on how to vinyl a bathroom
Thank you so much 😊
Great instruction. I'm going to try my first today.
Most informative vinyl flooring video ever!!!! Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey Shannon,
I'm currently remodeling my floors, we are going with a vinyl plank flooring (floating floors). Should I just use the same 3in1 underlayment/moisture barrier I would be using for other rooms, in the restroom as well? Or do I need to use a different type
Thanks.
Thank you for your video! Very nice - two questions though I couldn't figure out:
1. What did you use for underlayment on top of plywood?
2. Would you advise against installing a sheet vinyl 1/4 inch felt-backed directly on plywood?
I am asking for a kitchen floor.
Thanks!
i came across some stuff called durhams rock hard wood putty. its a powder that requires a little water but dries pretty quick and would skim coat screws.
thank you for all your videos.
good job man...this is the best vinyl flooring know-how
Thanks
Awesome video!
You’re the best brother!

Hahahaha. 👍
Shannon what product are you using. I have a bathroom I have to do the same thing your doing. HD is available to buy a product from. And should one use any primer first over the old plywood?
How did the toilet flange just come off or did you cut the flange off for the demonstration?. I wan't to redo our bathroom floor too but have old tile flooring now, was wondering on the height.
Great video, thanks!
You are a perfectionist :)
I typically get a large piece of white paper. make measurements of perimeter. add 2 to 3 inches on each side measured. cut to fit
good job You're the best
Thanks kobi.
Shannon...Is Great!!!!
Good video thanks
Great Video and very concise.. Thank you very much!!
Thanks
Do you install Bay, Bow Windows. Replacement that is. I'd like to see how you install them.
Try Ardex skim coat or Plani Patch you'll need it from a flooring supply store home depot doesn't have it
Always roll your vinyl with a roller work from the middle and go west thing east pushing the air pockets out
Lo máximo, me sirve de mucha ayuda para hacerlo en mi baño, thank you!
Nice job.
Thank you . good a pro job.
Thank you Shannon !
Serj Prihodko I
Thanks man, very helpful;-)
The UK have a product called featherlite. That is made for cement or wood floors.
Good video and info
can i use "Fix-It-All" to float the underlayment?
Hello, how do you lay loose lay vinyl sheet flooring? Thank you
Whats the advantage of this vinyl flooring ? i want to install on the bathroom coz i like the looks of laminate flooring but laminate flooring cant be on the water. Does it feel and looks like laminate flooring ?
Thank u very nice video...
We use Dependable skimcoat/patch. Its latex based and dries super quick. That said ive done hundreds of vinyl jobs with cement based patch and never have a problem. There are some glues that don't react well with luan, but thats got nothing to do with the patch
Good job.
Thanks,your a life saver
Your welcome
GREAT VIDEO. THANK YOU SO MUCH :-)
you are welcome
Thank you very mutch
prep for floor before vinyl, water putty, ready patch, and there epoxy patch for wood floors.
We are installing vinyl flooring in a 5 ft bathroom. It is for a condo and the Association requires us to install a sound barrier pad. The bathroom currently has some old white ugly tile floor.
Is it possible to glue the pad to the tile, and glue the vinyl to the pad? It will be a little thick, but it shouldnt be an issue with the toilet or door.
The vinyl flooring will go in the bathroom area with the toilet and tub/shower.
Good job
nice job!
Thank You So Much!!
+Marley robertson You are welcome
thanks you
I saw some people soaked stapled the vinyl at the adge. Why some people do that and some don't? I should put staples?
What do you think about using vinyl tape instead of glue for a bathroom like this?
Thank you so much for your video very helpful my husband works long hours and we are remolding ourselves can't afford a pro this was helpful thank you
Thanks so much for your videos. Excuse me, what can I do if there was a place burnt? I am worried about my mistake.
Our forum is a great place to ask specific questions, here is a link:www.house-improvements.com/forums/
Great video. I do decks & fencing, but just got a linoleum job via referral. You've answered all of my questions about the process with this video and the one on underlayment. Except for one. Can I use a drywall screw instead of staples on theunderlayment?
TIA
Please use my forum to ask your question and I will be sure to answer it there.www.house-improvements.com/forums/
Excelente
You do a good job on these projects, very helpful videos. I been helping a friend install a new bathroom, putting a new toilet in , and he is going to be putting a new bathtub, and sink in also. I also wanted to ask you on that wireless mic your using, do you have to have a certain camcorder to use with that mic, or could I use any camcorder to make that mic work. Thanks.
As long as your camera has a plug for sound this should work. There is a sending unit on my belt and a receiving unit mounted to the camera and plugged in.
Do you think I can put tile over vinyl?
I've done just about every job you can think of but never this . I'd hate to mess it up 🤣🤣🤣😁😁
