Yeaaah Von! Great lesson and swing! Please excuse me with all due respect to leave a tip.... in your last topic, in Brazil, we used the words "Teleco-Teco" to memorize that rhythmic cell. If you sing that word over your groove (8:46) it's "teco-teco-teleco-teco-teco-teco-teleco".... But I usually hear many "gringos" saying wrong things about samba, bossa and Brazilian rhythms. You are not one of them! Congratulations brother and thank you! 😃
Elvis thanks for watching and for your comment! Love the syllables for the Samba pattern. Makes sense! I appreciate you sharing your expertise and your kind words. Keep swinging my friend 🤙
Brushes are super cool and you can do a ton of different things with them. I was in a thrash punk band that played a large amount of acoustic gigs. I would pay just a snare with brushes, same speed and intensity as the "full kit" version but much quieter. Great load of fun.
Thanks for the comment and for watching! Yes, brushes are extremely versatile. We can even use the unique swishing and low dynamic sounds in brushes to create new textures in any genre of music. If you haven't already, you might also check out my Brushes Mastery Course: jazzdrumschool.com/course/brushes-mastery-course You'll get loads of new ideas in how you can play brushes in your music. Keep swinging my friend 🤙

@@jazzdrumschool Thank you! I always try to improve my brush playing and your instruction is very helpful, indeed. Now I realize how the drummers of the samba/bossa/Getz/Gilberto albums of the sixties played and created their superb brush work!

Thanks for very good and informative lesson. I have often been thinking about wether i should play WITH or WITHOUT the snares on while playing bossa and samba. Any thoughts and wisdom about that ?
Thanks much for the comment Torbjørn! I think it comes down to the texture you want to create with the music you’re playing. If the song is really up tempo Samba and has an edge to the sound or is somewhat loud, I’ll use snares on. If it’s more mellow and dynamically more quiet, I might turn the snares off. Always let the music guide you. Hope that helps!
