Thank you comment section for the recommendations. Just a heads up, newport dunes is no longer a full length 18 hole course, but only 9 holes called Palmilla beach . Very beautiful and extremely challenging, but not exactly the arnold palmer design it once was.
I live in New Braunfels, the guy that did The Quarry (Keith Foster) also did The Bandit. I would say those are 2 of my favorite courses in South Texas.
One of my all time favorites around the east texas area. I live in Longview and go at least 5 times a year. And talk about affordable! You can play it for $25 with a cart on the weekdays.
Yeah twin lakes is awesome but the courses in this video are only premium rate courses but twins lakes has never let me down the best time of year is in spring all the flowers are in bloom kinda my little Augusta national
I played pine dunes last weekend. They bill this place as the Augusta of Texas. I have to say it's totally over hyped. It's a nice course, but if it was closer to Dallas or Houston or any other major city it would just be another course. It's the best in east Texas but that's not saying much. I think Frisco Lakes in Dallas and Wild Cat in Houston are better.
I like Lockhart State Park, these places are too expensive, they make people take carts, and encourage drunkenness and slow play! This isn't really golf.

Toughest course when windy!
Links at Lands End is left out, right on Lake Fork.
That is a hidden gem. That course is awesome.
The Quarry Golf Club. Wolfdancer Golf Club. Pines Dunes Golf Club.
Great calls on the Rawls course and The Quarry; they don't get enough recognition. Good insight to on Wolf Dancer and Newport Dunes.

Not one of these courses is a hidden gem. All of them are top ranked courses in the state
Pine dunes is literally the only true hidden gem and using DFW as a reference was stupid it’s 30 or so minutes south of Tyler

Pine dunes was OK, but for $100 it’s not worth it
+1 played there last weekend, it's nice but way over hyped and priced.
