I've learned to drive on my mom's (Snow white) 353 knight when I was 12, than I took it over when I passed my license. We travelled through all the communist countries during half terms in the 70s and 80s, than Western Europe after 91 with almost zero maintenance needed, the tool set could fit in my pockets and a spare timing belt in the boot. One of the best cars I've ever had and I still miss it.♥

W bagażniku woziłem zapas części zamiennych łącznie z półośką, bo kiedyś ukręciła mi się w trasie. No i już w żadnym innym aucie nie czułem się takim królem szos jak wtedy 🙂

Production shown is the 4 - stroke Wartburg 1,3, so the subtitles are not always correct. Tailgate and rear wings " Duroplast " only on estate- cars, not on saloons. The factory is in the centre of Eisenach - Rennbahn - or used to be, as most of it was demolished by the capitalists.

My late uncle had one of these when he lived in Luxembourg. he bought a Vauxhall, which tells you something about the Wartburg. He actually imported the Vauxhall, (an FB VX4/90), and it turned out to be a good car. British Racing Green, i.e. almost black. Wonder where it ended up?
@@michals547 The gearbox is...sensitive. No; it is n o t a VW - gearbox. Basically, Trabant 1,1 and Wartbureg 1,3 boxes are very similar - with some modifications, a Trabant 1,1 box fits the Wartburg.

During communism era in Poland Wartburg was not so much demanded like czech Skoda, russian Lada or yugoslavic Zastava because of relative high fuel consumption and it was rather so popular like romanian Dacia (model based on Renault 12). But other products from DDR (like MZ or Simson bikes) were much more demanded by people, definitely.
Before WW2 this factory used make BMW's (i believe the 340/6) , after the war ended the factory was licated in communist east-Germany. They still made cars but under the name EMW (Eisenacher motoren werke). 1958 and later the cars were branded Wartburg.
We owned Trabant for many years and there actually WAS an indicator for turn signals and headlights, even for high beams. There was also an indicator-knob for hazard lights. The information in the video isn´t correct. Also, ours was 6V and we HAD hazard flashers.
