The T30 in War Thunder is a US Heavy Tank with a 155mm cannon that just so happens to fire the LARGEST APHE shell in the game. A shell that weighs 45kg and has 630g of TNT. This shell is pretty insane for damage but it does have its short comings. A 30 second reload minimum and due to its diameter, it has issues with volumetric it can be pretty frustrating to not get a one shot.
The T30 is no longer available to earn but it is available on the Marketplace as a massively inflated coupon. It's one of the rarest tanks around but they do pop in matches now and again.
We step away from the usual HE destruction of the M107 shell in favour of the T29 shell just to see what it's capable of and what it isn't.
Regardless, there aren't much more fun rounds like this in the game! :)

2:00 Odd , you should really play the Su-122-54, it has a rangefinder and a 400mm penetrating HEAT, it excels at long ranges where most opponents at your BR will struggle to penetrate your frontal armor, and you got 2 14.5mm's for anti air and anti m56 purposes.
It also has very good optics, commander have access to x10 zoom.

Yeah the 122-54 is much under-appreciated and overlooked because the T-54s all sit in the same BR area. There really aren’t many complaints you can have that aren’t caused by being a casemate
You should also try the apds when u play it, really fast and enough pen to go trough a king Tiger anywhere

Hey Odd! If you want a APHE shell with more explosive mass, the Japanese Ho-Ro has a 36kg APHE shell with over 2.5kg of explosive mass
The Ho ro with aphe might be the absolute worst to play lol

when i got this tank, i would shout 'NUKE ROUND INBOUND' before firing. until my friends got annoyed. some ppl just don't like fun
its fun the first time, but if its shouted many times its starts to get quite annoying

the best bit of the SU-122-54 is the fact it has a KPVT 14.5mm MG on the roof. the thing DELETES planes.
it gets HEATFS, optical rangefinder and the normal 122mm goodies. its very strong but not the best armor.

Day four of asking BawZ to play the M14/41 (47/40) and do an Italian 2.0/2.3 lineup and get some cheeky snipes with the hull mounted .50cal that's almost as big as the main gun.
M14/41 + 75/34 M42 + AS42/47 + F.C.20 Bis + P.108A serie 2.
The biggest APHE in terms of explosivr filler is the german 12.8 cm APCBC, but still, 640g of TNT is brutal.
*ACKSHUALLY* the largest APHE round _in the game_ is the ones on battleships

It has less pen at 177 I think, but it has more TNT-Equivalent
I would love to see the SU-122-54, if it's still a possibility! It gets the lowest BR version of the -D ballistic capped shell, if I remember correctly, as well as two 14.5mm MGs to fend off light attackers and planes! It's the only reason that I still play 6.7 Russia :)
Why it doesn't work for me? 😭 odd hears the guy from a kilometer away, meanwhile the enemy tank a few centimeters behind me doesn't make a sound.

Something satisfying about a big APHE punching a hole into something that HE will never come close to comparing to for me.
I am not really a fan of vehicles with super long reloads like that. Like over 20 maybe 25 seconds things start to become really unfun for me. There are exceptions like derp mobiles where you play for memes, not necessarily for victory. KV-2 and such, but idk stuff like this doesn't really jive with me. Face more than one enemy and you are basically guaranteed dead. IS-2 falls into that category as well the 122 just takes way too long to reload for what it does. I have more success with the 85 or 100mm
Me as a german Germany Main, hate the Whole T34 Family of Americans because that damn Turret... Even on Flat ground, when I try to hit the MG Port in the hull, which Wiggles like nothing else the second i aim at it and the cannon which Cuts through everything is just Nerve-wracking for me
Im gonna have to vote for the SU-122-54. If the reload being ~15 seconds and having a rangefinder weren't enough of a bonus, the coaxial and roof mounted 14.5s can eat cannon barrels faster than most SPAAs do in its BR range.
The low velocity and long reload on the T30 and T34 frustrate me. Luckily, the T29 exists!
Honestly IS-2 is more stable tank in the meta and SU-122 gets uptiered to 7.7 a lot...and both of them are kinda boring so u might as well go for Object 267 at 7.0, that tank is a beast and u can pair it up with su11 or su9

su-122-54 is better than the 268 imo. i really don't like the 268's heat round. the aphe is good but when the aphe is pretty much on par and other rounds the su-122-54 offers are better... its crazy that it is a lower BR.
Was I playing the T30 wrong the whole time? Should I have used the APHE instead of HE?
About spawn protection... I'm pretty sure once you move a certain distance it disappears. Or maybe moving uses up protection time. Anyway, to use it longee, don't move at all. Useful to know when they're in your spawn, bring a fast reloader and get some kills before you inevitably die anyway.
What I think would be more entertaining is watching Odd play the T30 and only use the solid shot 😏

YES, the 122-54 is an amazing tank destroyer, T54 armor with a 122 HEAT-FS and the infamous 122 APHEBC, with the reload of a 100mm, it’s amazing and you should play it FOR SURE

this is one of those times id do an unrealistic battle change to this tank, just remove some reload time and maybe a tiny bit of reverse, the KV2 should receive the same treatment like a few others
