Raskin calls out the MAGA extremists and radical Republicans for pushing their xenophobic agenda that is "completely unconstitutional" and affront to those that wrote the original Constitution.

Citizenship wasn’t imposed until the ‘American Indian Citizenship Act of 1924’.
It's insultingly ironic when a republican talks about the idea of one man one vote their entire party is dedicated to the opposite of that.

So , the GOP is ok with not getting an accurate count of who lives in the U.S.. Why bother with a census at all if this is the case. ??? I have lived in Arizona for 5 years. I can tell you that Trump loving Hispanic people do not consider themselves Latin anymore. They will check Caucasian, under Ethnicity. Every time I hear Raskin speak l'm in awe. If he ran for President he'd win in a landslide, IMHO. I also love Senator Whitehouse - another brilliant man with a talent for communication. And they're both decent human beings, unlike that boob leading the GOP around by their short hairs.
Rep Raskin would win soundly. He is articulate, highly knowledgeable with everything he discusses, and is a very likeable person.
I love how Raskins has to educate those who should already be educated.

I take exception to one of Mr Raskin's last quotes, nobody I know wants to go to America! here in the UK we have much more freedom, and do you really think that with what is currently happening in the U.S, its an appealing place even to visit? too many people with guns, police much more deadly than ours, and too much religious fundamentalism, its a scary place!!!!

There were no immigration laws when the 14th amendment was written. The treaty we had with Mexico at the time was that people could move freely across the border. Before the 14th amendment we counted slaves, but we did not count native americans who obviously were here legally. The only valid point the very polite but incorrect Republican argues is that a question does not mean you're not going to count the person. It's cynical because he knows very well it's meant to scare people away from being counted. But devious is the Republican way.
Enslaved people and Native Americans were counted as 3/5th of a person because the Slavers wanted more representation in Congress.

The purpose of the census has ALWAYS been to count who is where in order to determine what communities need.
Maybe we should add a census question asking if you own firearms and if so how many/what kind.

If I'm not misinformed did not Texas increase the membership of Congress by two and New York lost one due to counting all people.
Why -- because of the people who are in our prisons !! So the new Congressmen were in the districts that have a prison !!
The citizenship question as presented by the republicans excludes people with the legal right to be here so does not accurately reflect the legal population. I believe that this bill will really affect the American Community Survey (ACS) that is done on a yearly basis. The purpose of ACS can be found on the Census department website if anyone is interested. MAGA serves trump, so this question has to trump's advantage.
Why dont republicans take a high school civics course to learn what their job is? And how the constitution actually reads?

Mr. Normam quoting the Epoch Times is troubling. A simple google search will explain why. These people, who typically carry a pocket constitution on their person every day, only uphold their oath to the constitution when it's convenient.
So we make children show citizenship papers before we teach them to read and write, give them lunch and send them home? Seems to me we would want immigrant children to be educated so they can contribute to the economy, pay taxes and stay out of jail.
That's one of the things that the census does, allocate funding for schools.
Unfortunately in 1982 SCOTUS by a 5-4 decision FORCED Americans with OUR $$,draining OUR social services, to educate any illegal alien kid from anywhere on the planet. It's part of the magnet that attracts people to risk death to get here. The nation they came from doesn't give us a DIME to educated Their kids.

The census taken in May 2020 asked how many people lived at my address as of April 1, 2020 My answer was 2 regardless of the death of my 28 year old son (April 20, 2020). I was an enumerator in 1990 and was sent to what was considered to be the most difficult areas of a major city in Western NY at that time to get door to door responses from; the African American community and Latino community most of whom were cautious of governmental abuse. In other words I brought copies of the U.S Constitution as proof these numbers were used for precisely what Senator Raskin states- APPORTIONMENT & REPRESENTATION & NOT for voting or immigration purposes

The Cato institute reported that trump policies allowed more illegals to "sneak" in. Quote from Cato institute "Border Patrol recorded 41 percent more successful illegal entries in fiscal year 2019 than in 2016" so trump did not stop all illegal entries in the US. How about the "We build the wall" where Steve Bannon and Brian Kolfage were convicted of defrauding the donors. Bannon, of course was pardoned by trump, Kolfage and 2 others are still in jail serving their sentences.

My Parents live in Mexico (Puerto Vallarta)...They come here every four years to vote republican and return to mexico.
