Possibly one of the most slept on speakers ever. I ran three Sony explodes and a sealed enclosure in four different vehicles for about four or five years straight most budget-friendly and loudest system you can get with spending under $400 for three subwoofers
Im running 1500w sony xplodes with matched power. Bought them when my kicker died. They hit hard as fuuuck! Im impressed. Im not gonna be showing it off to anyone, but for major boom in my daily driver....could not be happier for the price
I've had several systems, among them were two 10" Xplod's in a small sealed box. Had em running off a 1000w Xplod amp and they were turning heads. They were actually pretty loud and didn't sound half bad
I used to have Sony a long time ago, they lasted me about two years with my 1000 fosgate amp before blowing. Personally I thought it was pretty good considering how cheap they were, definatley worth the price
I got a Wally World set up too. I got 4 12inch duals in ported boxes. Hahaha hits damn good for a 120 bucks worth of subs. Btw, I can't believe u were running that little thin cable in the first place. I run O Guage to my amp. I used to have thin wire just like that! It makes a difference.
@randomizedvidkids get screws. Get leads to connect terminals on box to sub terminals. Screw sub into box. Not difficult. Just find a place to put the box. Trunk is normal for most, if less than ideal. Now amps....if you don't know what you are doing, find a friend to help you or pay someone to do it. You can muck up your amp or fry yourself if you aren't careful. I think crutchfield might include basic instructions on amp install, but they won't help if you aren't already technically inclined.
I don't care what anyone says. Ive had my Sony Xplode amp and subs for 10 years and everyone that hears my system cant believe its Sony bangin like that. I just picked up another amp and 2 10's, 1 in a sealed box and the other in a ported box. Ffffing amazing tune. The box has to be the right cubic feet for them to sound good also.
I am not a fan of Sony speakers or woofers but i can say that Sony puts out some of the best Head units on the market. I Just got the new Sony XAV-701HD Stereo for my car from my work at a high end car audio store.
Just got mine going to install tomorrow 🤞 update I got them hooked up with my 500 watt Kenwood amp and they bump heavy great buy without breaking the bank
Just out of curiousity, you didn't run the signal rcas and the power cable right next to each other did you? Ideally they should be opposite sides of the car to avoid interference.
Do you have any advice on " how to set up your subs the RIGHT WAY to get the most out of them without blowing them up? would you have a video for that? thanks!
2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 S.... New Pioneer Headunit, 6.5 3 way door speakers, 6x9 4 way rear speakers, 1000 watt Pheonix Gold Ryval Amp, And Two 12 in Sony Xplodes in a sealed box. And for 6 Gauge wire it sound good. Sonys are pretty good subs.... I have had alot of subs also orions, MTX, and more..... Ill get Some videos up soon.... Sonys are Pretty Good
Had mine for about 8 days, and today was its last day. Going to the place where I got them installed tomorrow with my warranty receipt and I put it on god I will not get another xplod.
i had one and tuned it down in the 20's that sub is sick if you like good lows. and get a nice box no shity Walmart boxes and for rock and metal id go with a large sealed enclosure
I just bought a kicker comp 12. And they are rated at 150 watts rms but I know that is way underrated. You think 200 watts is a better fit, or even 250? idk, 250 may be overkill but I've heard Kicker's will take a beating.
@xxxkhafanxxx you have to match the rms power when buying an amp and to measure volts get a digital multimeter and put it on the volts setting and put it into the power and ground on your amp when the music is at full volume
when hooking up a system right like you did, i was wondering. would you rather have this 12" xplod or a 12" pioneer also from walmart. (i listen to metal more than anything, but i will play rap when i want some nice beats though) not looking for very very powerful bass. not taking the chance of putting an old jbl in a car though sense the magnet is slightly corroded.
are these the only brands you know? lol Jbl is like oem treo is nice but expensive and unless you are going nuts an hcca is pretty radical now i will say as far as xplods go this one is running pretty hard and i respect this guy for putting a decent amp on it
@hunter1shot do u think its worth getting this because im not spending enough money to buy any top brands... will the subs blow after a couple months or what? and what size amp are u running to that sub
@hunter1shot damn where'd you get monster that cheap( well, cheap for monster)? Every place ive seen it (granted that's only best buy and I think some at Walmart. I buy most of my cables from monoprice) its been closer to $70 or so a roll. Little cheaper for smaller gauges.
@hunter1shot I actually have 2 Alpine type-X s and the amp is JBL GTO24001 . they are not set up yet. each sub takes 1000W RMS max. so 2000W RMS. the AMP itself has 2400W RMS. i want to know how to set it up so that it puts 1500W RMS through both subs ( 750 through each) and nothing more. can this be adjusted by the gain and x-overs on the actual amp? Thanks for your help !
dude can u pls tell me one thing for a car like honda city i want heavy bass which shakes the car which one should i go for box type sony xplod the one whih u have or jbl 1250w bass tube ...i will b very grateful if u reply me asap i need to sort out the confusion thnks
@xMaGiKKiLLax i would check local retail stores such as best buy to see if they have open box items i got a alpine type r 12 for $100 and it normally cost $200. This Sony Xplod cost $70 so if you can spend a little bit more i would do it. The surround on the sony xplod wears out with in 6 months if you constantly play it at full power.
Which is better quality wise? This 12" or the kicker 10"? the kicker is like 150 bucks its only 300watts, i don't have to much to spend on a system and i'm trying to get the best sub under like 200 bucks.
Sony xplod subwoofers sound good and they can definitely get loud especially if you put them in a t line subwoofer enclosure now a sony xplod in a t line now that would be awesome
will a 1500w RMS sub work with an amp that has 2400W rms? i have these two but how can i make sure that the amp is running under 1500W rms through the sub not nothing more? Thanks!
actually xplod subwoofer cones are 1/4'th inch thick it is kinda worth it getting it for liabilitty plus this type of subwoofer u can but replacement cores incase u blow ur wires
You wanna pay attention to the RMS (Continuous power) Not the peak. The Peak power rating means nothing essentially. But note not all subs will put out exactly what thebox says...
I gota say m8 i got two sonys sealed and they are good.two seperate amps 400rms each.ive just brought another xplode and another sony hex amp 500watt rms.just building the box.cant wait to here it.1,300 rms.
I just got an 800 watt sony amp plus 1000 watt sony xplod sub and a wiring kit but um... duno how to hook it all up, can sumone tell me, im sure it cant be that hard?? All it needs is a new sony stereo now, Im wanting to upgrade to a nice mettallic blue mitsibitchi GTO, if anyone knows of one can you please messege me?? In the 2000's please thanx.
I hated on Sony subs until my friend made me listen to his 2 15 xplods. The lowest hardest hitting subs I have ever heard. They were six years old and bridged on a 1000w amp and I was amazed. You HAVE to hear them in person before you hate.
well i think sonys are good for lighter tone more like midrange almost but with a harder thump. i have a sony 12 explod and a pioneer champion series and i can say its an awesome combonation:)
i bought my xplods about 2 years ago...and still got em....must be tryin to overpower a small power sub.....they are only rated about 200-350 rms per sub depending on the size...i use a pioneer 760 watt amp...nothing huge but plenty for me
sonyxs nw 1201 I bought this speaker for home 5.1 amplifier. Someone said this speaker failure model, the winding is small, the magnet is small, it does not even come with a 10 inch sub. It is said to be rubbish
my pioneers sound great, i got everything from walmart, subs/amp/box's. i actually just uploaded a recent video of them with a better install. but soon i will be getting better stuff so i wont have them much longer
If you set them up good, you'll be fine, my 12 is running at 1000 watts and my 10 I have is running at 300. It bumps hard as shit, just be careful at what power level you have it at because my 12 has clipped once on Put On by Jeezy. But yeah, these aren't too crappy as long as you don't abuse them. :)
I have 2 12" Sony subs 2 every thing in my car Is Sony & my car hit harder then my sista car & she have kickers like u say my dude itz All about tha wiring & how u hook it up
estoy contigo compadre..... los subs sony suenan increíble...... tengo uno de 12" en un cajón de 97.3 litros...... y golpea como no tienen idea......lo alimento con un ampli planet audio....
I forgot to add that the Xplods do what "high end" subs can't do (FOR THE MONEY). Obviously higher quality subwoofers in a well designed enclosure will do amazing things also.
I got rid of this system a few years ago. I work at a high end car audio store now so i hear the best and the newest stuff before its available to anyone else.
yeah sony car audio is not too great. However the sony amps are better than the legacy, pyle, boss, etc. amps of the same claimed wattage, and they are still cheap (I paid $40). Also, I got the subs for $70 in a box, so hey for the price I think that system actually sounds half decent and it does hit 120db and gets the roof of my jeep flexing. I don't really feel like spending much on my subs and I don't need a crazy system so the sony stuff gets the job done for me
eh i ruled out both, because the pioneer i don't even count as the REAL pioneer from back then, and sony is just for home audio (sorry sony guys) i will just stick with my 3 year old Dual which has held up nicely, still pounds like my friend's kicker comps. lol
@theoffspringrox77 i would avoid this sub. try to look at your local bestbuy and see if they have any open box items i got an alpine type r 12 for $100 kicker 10's are very loud at all i would look around online too for a sale
My friend have 4 of them on 2k rms. 4 k max!!they take it like a champ!got video on it so if you this Sony can't handle power you will see it in my video on a PPI amp too!!!
most people listen to thier music compressed to shit. 128kbps isn't close to quality so most don't know what "sounds" good. and most car subs efficiency are around 85 to maybe 90db so you need loads of power just to even listen to it. most people who brag about anything tend to have nothing at all.
Ive had jl audio subs and currently have treo 2 10in subs running off jl audio 750 watt amp and anyone can make anything loud but it will sound like crap. Yeah someone could have louder subs then mine but the subs i have sound way better then sony subs
@bassnerd58 definitely get the sony xplod my friend had the pioneer sub and it sounded terrible and the basket of the sub was all plastic and it has a shitty surround too.
Possibly one of the most slept on speakers ever. I ran three Sony explodes and a sealed enclosure in four different vehicles for about four or five years straight most budget-friendly and loudest system you can get with spending under $400 for three subwoofers
You can get a much better 3 subwoofer setup than Xplod for 400.
Im running 1500w sony xplodes with matched power. Bought them when my kicker died. They hit hard as fuuuck! Im impressed. Im not gonna be showing it off to anyone, but for major boom in my daily driver....could not be happier for the price
They ain't low quality man!! I had two 12" sonys and they sounded wonderful! They sounded better than my Memphis 12s I had.
This is the best sounding Sony Xplod i have ever heard.
I've had several systems, among them were two 10" Xplod's in a small sealed box. Had em running off a 1000w Xplod amp and they were turning heads. They were actually pretty loud and didn't sound half bad

Have had the same sony xplod 1200 grey 12s for like 10 years on a JL 500/1 v2 very clean bass

do you think if i had two of these in my car with 2 pioneer amps that put out 820 watts each would be able to shake my car
@xxxkhafanxxx im not sure can you tell me the name of the sub and amp then i might be able to look it up
These are surprisingly loud as hell.
How should I set up Sony Xplod 10s the same model as yours and a 800 watt Sony amp
Exactly, people get to caught up in name brand stuff.
dude can u pls tell me one thing for a car like honda city i want heavy bass which shakes the car which one should i go for box type sony xplod the one whih u have or jbl 1250w bass tube ...i will b very grateful if u reply me asap i need to sort out the confusion thnks

these are actually not bad in a ported box,, 2.5 cuft tuned arround 32 hz,, theyre nice for the price
Which is better quality wise? This 12" or the kicker 10"? the kicker is like 150 bucks its only 300watts, i don't have to much to spend on a system and i'm trying to get the best sub under like 200 bucks.
this genaration of sony subs were actually pretty good for the price, earlier ones were poop aparatly.
nice! did that last long? lol mine never did and they were really underpowered!
I have them in my 2012 Camero and their the best and only subwoofers I will ever use
Sony xplod subwoofers sound good and they can definitely get loud especially if you put them in a t line subwoofer enclosure now a sony xplod in a t line now that would be awesome
Which amp is best for running this 2 piece of sub.

@hunter1shot alright then, thanks. any tips about the xplod, so i doesn't sound like crap? lol
You wanna pay attention to the RMS (Continuous power) Not the peak. The Peak power rating means nothing essentially. But note not all subs will put out exactly what thebox says...
I was thinking of CVR's...those things really like the power. But yeah, a Comp will probably hold just fine on 200w RMS.
what was that red wire you used
I know ur right about the sound of Sony car subwoofers mine sound like 15s they under estimate the power of the Sony xplode subs
so im guessing you wouldnt recommend this subwoofer and get the alpine type r. and how many do you have of the alpine
I gota say m8 i got two sonys sealed and they are good.two seperate amps 400rms each.ive just brought another xplode and another sony hex amp 500watt rms.just building the box.cant wait to here it.1,300 rms.
@hunter1shot What song was playing?
In the 2000's please thanx.
what do you have your amp ground connected to? do you have your amp power wire connected to battery or alternator?
how do you find out how many RMS you are running through the subs?
How do you find out how many Volts your subs are running?
Thanks!
I hated on Sony subs until my friend made me listen to his 2 15 xplods. The lowest hardest hitting subs I have ever heard. They were six years old and bridged on a 1000w amp and I was amazed. You HAVE to hear them in person before you hate.

where do u work ? sundown all the way just sayin .... also jl sounds pretty good jl 15 w0 v3 and I was surprised scince its low end jl
i agree 100 percent with you i have a sony xplod, playing sound outside and my windows are rattling in my house the rock when you hook it up right
@epb1243 no thats not true, certain power wires contain less oxygen and more copper and they can make the biggest differences
ummm... is (was) that 8 gauge going from the amp to the sub?
i bought my xplods about 2 years ago...and still got em....must be tryin to overpower a small power sub.....they are only rated about 200-350 rms per sub depending on the size...i use a pioneer 760 watt amp...nothing huge but plenty for me
I have 2 xplode subs in a box with a amp they dont suck they have really loud bass!
well this is comforting. i just bought a dual ds12 :)
Some day I'm going to upgrade my Alpine subs to Sony Xplod's
You mean downgrade 😂
kyle dotson No upgrade, sir. Sonys are much better than Alpine.
alpines are better than sony if have alpines ur not running them right
HA
I think you mean downgrade
@jensenbud88 can you make that video yet?
I just got one of those subs for $20 on craigslist. I don't even plan on playing my music that loud either. Hopefully it lasts.
@xxxkhafanxxx its possible but you would need to research it. there is videos on how to use a digital multimeter to set the gain on youtube.
sonyxs nw 1201 I bought this speaker for home 5.1 amplifier.
Hit a 149 with fried coils which ended up freezing 1 of the subs after the show. Get with the big boys junior.
@epb1243 yeah they are on opposite sides
My Edited Video Sony XS-L121P5, Soundstream XTA480.2, 3 cu/ft L-ported box tuned to 30Hz...
Guys, give my vid some views! MINE is the loudest single 12" Xplod on RUclips, this guy wasn't even using a ported box!
which song was that? gatta try it on ma sub....
Wiz khalifa phone numbers
i gat it man..thanks though
xplods arent bad. I helped my friend install 2 12's and them shits knocked. They were louder than my 2 10" alpines.
are sony subs good ? cz im thinking of buying 1

tnx chad
I have 2 12" Sony subs 2 every thing in my car Is Sony & my car hit harder then my sista car & she have kickers like u say my dude itz All about tha wiring & how u hook it up
Thanks, WILL BUY ONE..
@epb1243 what the fuck does a hdmi cable have to do with car subs?
estoy contigo compadre..... los subs sony suenan increíble...... tengo uno de 12" en un cajón de 97.3 litros...... y golpea como no tienen idea......lo alimento con un ampli planet audio....
I forgot to add that the Xplods do what "high end" subs can't do (FOR THE MONEY). Obviously higher quality subwoofers in a well designed enclosure will do amazing things also.
@chocolateman757 i have 1 alpine type r in a custom made ported box
Now it all depends on what they want outta their system.
@chocolateman757 i would just get 1 alpine type r in a ported box. it would last much longer and sound better
Hi i have sony xplod 1300 watt x2 how manny rms?
1200w is rms
120
honestly i had both custom box for both sonys are good and hit hard pioneers are to not sure what it was but the pioneer had clearer bass
I got rid of this system a few years ago. I work at a high end car audio store now so i hear the best and the newest stuff before its available to anyone else.
Better off with 2 12" xplodes. Sound much better than 1 although 1 sounds decent enough
totally agree with you man. sony xplods are good.
which amp bro?
whats the name of song ?
wiz khalifa phone numbers
False depends on setup. Ive seen Sonys hit a 150 before in the cargo area.
sundown are one of the best u could buy one sundown for the price ofsonys and beat the crap out of it in spl by three times but im also a sundown fan
yeah sony car audio is not too great. I don't really feel like spending much on my subs and I don't need a crazy system so the sony stuff gets the job done for me
I got 2 of the red ones they sound awesome
eh i ruled out both, because the pioneer i don't even count as the REAL pioneer from back then, and sony is just for home audio (sorry sony guys) i will just stick with my 3 year old Dual which has held up nicely, still pounds like my friend's kicker comps. lol
sound like he turned his amp up to the max

@bassnerd58 definitely get the sony xplod my friend had the pioneer sub and it sounded terrible and the basket of the sub was all plastic and it has a shitty surround too.
