    OMG! Thank you for making an actual ADHD-friendly video. Straight to the point, no stupidly obnoxious, distracting background music, and great cadence to your voice.
    ADHD is co-morbid with so many things. I have CAPD, and the background music can make it hard to understand.

    I was just recently diagnosed with ADHD a couple of months ago at age 55. I started with only 10mg of Vyvanse. It was a game changer! A whole new, and easier, world. It was magical! And I was calm and clear headed as I've never been. Amazing!! But then after 2 months my insurance dropped coverage for it. So my doc put me on 15mg of dextroamphetamine sulfate or SR by a manufacturer called ACT. They describe it as a sustained release capsule that gives an immediate therapeutic dose followed by 10-12 hrs of consistent release. So I'm a little confused because this video and some other things I found on the internet, talked about it lasting only 4-6 hours. That doesn't make sense to me. Also, although I'm glad I didn't get the headaches like I did in the first 3 weeks of Vyvanse, the new 'Dex' does not make me feel...well, less ADHD, as I did on the Vyvanse. But it's only day 2 so we'll see how it goes. Still trying to figure out what 'dex' meds are short acting. Like the full name and brand name.

    Excellent informative video. Everything you said rings true for me.
    I cannot speak to vvyanse, I haven't been on it.
    But dexamfetamine has been life altering for my quality of life..

    Dexamphetamine doesnt produce an addiction in therapeutic doses (i.e., when taken as prescribed in doses 5-60mg/day, amlhetamine doesn't sufficiently induce ΔFosB expression in the nucleus accumbens to allow it to accumulate), so I'm not sure what the relevance is when it's claimed in the video that dexamphetamine is more addictive than lisdexamfetamine (in the context of taking thst medication for ADHD)

      I’m not as educated as yourself regarding the chemical make up as evidently as yourself and how they play out, but from a perspective of having used both, I’d like to offer my opinion.
      Lisdexamphetamine in the form of Elvanse (Vyanse in the US), it was a smooth slower release, as intended for the ‘pro drug’. The Dexamphetamine (Amfexa) as an instant release is a much quicker ‘up’, was noticeably different. In my case, a positive, and lasted near 8 hours - much longer than the 1-6 hours. I was advised to use it as a top up to my Elvanse which lasted no where near the 8-12 hours on it’s own (2 hours to kick in, noticeable crash 5 hours after).
      When I first tried the Amfexa, I did so on it’s own to better gauge my reaction before using it as an addition. So when comparing both and their intended use of performance, I’ve found the instant release worked better with a quicker release AND it’s ‘peak’ lasted longer with little to no crash - both the latter I found very surprising since the Elvanse was designed to be better in those areas. I only use Amfexa now as it mitigated my ADHD symptoms a lot better with zero side effects, and my clarity if thought was noticeably better alongside a feeling of calm.
      In short the dexamphetamine is more likely to be addictive, generally speaking, with it being a lot more noticeable uptake, and some may be inclined to chase that, and with it being shorter lasting can have multiple a day, and still sleep well.

    Ritalin doesn't do it for me.
    Today I requested Dexamfetamine from my doctor.
    I hope this switch from adhd meds will increase my focus so i can actually complete tasks.

    Well I'm on 60mg 3x 20mg a day. Was on this for years and then went on 70mg elvanse. Due to elvanse shortage back on ir dex. 40mg may be your max but in UK adults can go up to 60mg. I was on 100mg ritalin and aswel in past 108mg concerta. But methylphenidate burns out of my body so quickly last less than half it's ment to

    heart problems massively run in my family (both grandads dying before the age of 50 with heart attack) one of my grandmas had a triple heart bypass and my mother was born with a heart murmur. I take 40mg of dexamfetamine a day and I often get weird feelings in my chest or odd beats and it’s really starting to worry me however this is the only medication that works. Would you recommend changing? I have never been asked to come for check ups either. I have a medication review around every 6 months but all they check is my weight,height and blood pressure. Thankyou!!

      As usual cannot give any advice over the internet so this is general information only. With a significant cardiac history and potential heart symptoms it would be wise to ensure that there is extremely close monitoring with a doctor and appropriate testing done to ensure that it is safe before continuing

    Thanks heaps for the great info! I've been taking 40mgs of Vyvanse and have recently been prescribed 10mgs of Dexamphetamine in the afternoon. But it doesn't seem to do much? What is the usual effective dose for an adult male if I'm only going to take it once a dsy? Can i take more than 10mgs at once? (With my doctor's permission).

      Its crazy how things can be so different for each person. I went from 30mg Vyvanse, and was given 10mg of dex to top up as I was crashing on just Vyvanse too early even though it was supposed long lasting. The dex i tried on its own and it was a quicker uptake (as expected), it worked better for my adhd and mind clarity, gave me a calm, but it also lasted twice as long and no crash 🤷 So now i only use that, and if it comes up short, I know I can take another knowing it wont effect sleep!
      I notice your comment was 2 months ago now, how are you getting on…any change?

    I’ve been taking 30mg elvanse for about 6 months. Higher doses gave me some symptoms including anxiety. My doc has just changed me to 40mg dex (20mg twice a day). So this is the max dose? Thanks

    • @drkiddMD

      40mg is typically the maximum dose, uncommon to exceed this dosage.

      Thats a huuuuge dose. Very irresposible of your Dr. You will get severe Dopamine receptor downregulation from that, its also neurotoxic. Noone need to go over 10 mg.

    what do you do if your body adapts? and how do you really know if it did, i lost some weight, but gained again daily after some time, not sure if this is a sign of adaption, if you pause how long do you need to wait until your body no longer adapte, I take 20 mg in the morning and |0 in the afternoon. usually daily, but sometime i let it be on sundays

    • @drkiddMD
      @drkiddMD  18 дней назад +1

      Typically signs of tolerance or "adapting" is needing a higher dose to achieve the same effect. Taking regular breaks can help to mitigate this, but will vary between individuals how much breaks, for how long and how effective it is at curbing the tolerance.

    hey man, i got told the 40mg a day was a max for children. Lemme know if im wrong. 40mg seems quite low for a max dosage. maybe for an small female it might be the max

    • @drkiddMD
      @drkiddMD  10 месяцев назад

      Majority of the psychiatrists I work with recommend a maximum dosage of 40mg, with rare occasion some recommending 45mg depending on the patient situation. There will be cases where you may go more and it works well but usually I see diminishing return going above 40mg in most cases and dependence risk becomes much higher, hope that helps!

      Thanks for the reply man, thats awesome, im quite a big guy and ive noticed dex and ritalin seem to have a much bigger effect on most people, i feel like 40mg for me is about 25mg for most people@@drkiddMD

    • @_SIRenity_
      @_SIRenity_ 7 месяцев назад

      30mg of Lis is the equivalent to 8.9mg of dex (I quote this from the package of my Elvanse/Vyvanse), so 40mg of dex would seem low as a max dosage as a number if you are unaware of this. So 40mg of dex is a potent dose in comparison!

    -He says maximum dose of 40mg dexamfetamine but in germany there are from 20 to 70mg capsules available. I even read people taking 90mg. There is something fishy here. Also swallowing 8 tablets is quite terrible if you can take 1.-
    -I read and heared the exact opposite about the addiction of dexamfetamine vs methylphenidate because your body doesnt need to metabolise methylphenidate first. This is also the reason why the effect of methylphenidate should be stronger and quicker than with dexamphetamine.-
    -Please check these facts again and ask other doctors!-

    • @drkiddMD
      @drkiddMD  11 месяцев назад

      You might be getting confused with dexamfetamine and lisdexamfetamine (which is the long acting version commonly sold under the brand name Vyvanse). This medication comes in 20-70mg capsules, is taken once a day and does not convert directly. See this for more information: ruclips.net/video/LN6-QXpASYQ/видео.html
