Hello Des, great looking walk and a beautiful place, we are very envious of this! Thanks for taking us along with you,we too prefer a slow and steady climb, but sometimes you cant avoid a steep up! Hope you were not to poorly with your head cold, catch you soon, Ceri and Kat ❤☕🤗⛰
Hi Ceri & Kat! The cold has been hiked into submission! 😁 Amazing what a bit of fresh air can do! Whichever way you do this circuit, it starts off steep. But definitely a walk that rewards the effort. Hope you are both keeping well👍
Black Hill and adjacent are where a fair bit of my early hiking days as a lad were spent. With the paving and splendid vegetation restoration, the summit plateau is very pleasant these days. It was like the Somme in the 1980s! Great film Des of a special area. Cheers, Chris
Hi Chris. Yes, it was very tricky to navigate the area back then. You still need to watch your step now in places 😁 But if they'd left it without intervention, who knows what would be left of it by now. Huge thumbs up to the people who carry out the work!👍
Yes, it's amazing up there. It used to be like a moonscape up there with all the peat exposed. But they are planting grasses now to prevent erosion. Thanks for watching!👍
Ha ha, yes I think the farm down near the start of the walk has geese to make sure the campers don't sleep in 😁 It was a fine walk! Hope you are keeping well👍
By ‘eck Des! You’re taking back to my youth club days with this walk! Life was obviously in black & white back then. I think one of our first youth club hikes was in the Crowden area which is why it always takes me back to that. What a glorious day you had for it. I could almost smell the peat and the fresh air. We watch RUclips on the telly so we got the full impact of those views. 😍 We loved this video. Keep ‘em coming! Don 👍
Glad it brought back memories 😁 Of course, Black Hill was properly black when we were younger! Much less exposed peat now. A great walk on a lovely day though! Thanks for watching👍
Yes, all peat bog land now. It would have been heavily forested at some time in history. More of the peat used to be exposed (hence the name Black Hill) but they are now using grasses to try and prevent erosion. Thanks for watching👍
Great walk that, Des. I've added that one to my rapidly expanding to-do list too. Cheers for a great video. I'm into getting out early too, so peaceful when you get on a walk before 7. All the best, Terry
Ciao, Des! Wow! What an amazing hike in this so beautiful place! The view and panoramas are absolutely stunning. Silence and perfect atmosphere of relax. Veryhelpful for mind and body! Really enjoyable to watch too, my friend. My best wishes from Italy to you! Renata
Hello Renata! Hope you are keeping well👍 Yes, it was a perfect hike for rejuvenating the spirits after so many weeks of being tied down to local walks 😁
Great stuff Des, looked like you got some lovely weather which makes the hike even better. I've never been to the Peak District before but after watching your videos I'll have to go there, take care pal ATB CHRIS 👍
A grand day there for a great walk Des. I loved seeing those views from Laddow rocks. I nearly lost a boot in a bog the first time I walked on Tolleyshaw moor. Luckily I managed to did it out to avoid having to walk the last 2 miles with only one shoe!
Hi Anthony. I posted an answer to this last week, but seems to have gone into the ether! It was a great walk, and still wet and boot-sucking on the last stretch up to the trig. All the best!
Hi Des! I went up black hill and tried then to head east and got biblically lost! Ended up on the road next to Holme moss. Haunts me to this day! Stunning though and thank you for posting! Paul
Hi Paul. I bet it does! If the weather conditions are less than perfect, it can catch anyone out navigating up there. Luckily I had a great day! 😁 Hope you are keeping well👍
Nice one Des....we were up there yesterday...we went from Digley reservoir via Ramsden clough and Holme moss...its a classic...loved the sky above Brockholes quarry
Ah nice one Steve! I've not done that route, but been meaning to get up to Holme again to do a route round Digley and some of the other reservoirs up there. Just got back from a quick overnighter, so think I've got a vid of yours waiting👍
I like an early start too and have to say the sky looked amazing, I would have loved to have photographed that. Looks like you got the benefits of the early start as it looked deserted but what a sad story of the plane crash ☹. Stunning views from the top and what a perfect spot for lunch, despite it still being early - I can eat at any time😂. Nice to get out on a proper hike again Des, I'll bet, cheers Alan
Hi Alan! Yes, it has been so great to get out again 😁 Sadly, the Derbyshire Peak District is liberally dotted with crash sites. In the past, with low cloud it would have been a real nightmare to navigate. I'm not naturally an early riser, hence I give myself a big pat on the back when I do drag my lazy @rse out of bed 😁 Thanks for watching mate, really appreciate it!👍
Such a great route. Did it during the summer last year but had very claggy weather for our jaunt. Still an incredible experience as it's so atmospheric up there when the cloud is sat so low. The rocks marked as 'castles' on the map are known as Crowden Castles I believe.
Thanks very much! I believe in ancient times it was heavily forested, but these days all open moorland with panoramic views. Hope you are keeping well👍
Hi there! Funnily enough, my only ever trip to the states was to a conference in Vegas and I was lucky enough to do a little bit of walking above the Grand Canyon. It was breathtaking! Thanks for watching & all the best👍
Hi there! Yes it's a real Peak District classic👍 It gets a bit boggy up near the trig point, but other than that it's a stunning walk! Thanks very much for watching & leaving a comment👍
Hey buddy, I checked out your channel. Subscribed too. I’m going to enjoy watching your content as I love going for long walks. And wow the walk your on here looks incredible 😊
Thanks Stephen & Yhana! I've been enjoying learning more about archeology from your own channel. There's always something new to discover about the places we explore. All the best!👍
Bliss Sheer bliss. Just you and your camera for company is just amazing. The burns and paths lookwd great walking. Have you thought about drone pilots licence yourself. I'm tempted by it. That looked like there could be a few places to pitch a tent as well with some brilliant scenery. Thanks for sharing sir. Hope your keeping well (apart from your head cold lol lol) All the best 😁🥾👍😁🥾👍
Thanks Scott! Was a great walk, and the head cold has been hiked into submission 😁 Hope you are keeping well👍 Not sure why I've not got around to trying a drone (I have flown radio controlled planes). At my age though, I can probably do without something else to carry on my walks and camps! 😁
Hello K-Granny! This walk was only last week. Not very Spring-like is it? 😁 It is a very harsh windy environment up there, and I don't think it every looks very green. The dryness is quite misleading, as underneath the grass it is very wet and boggy. Thanks very much for watching! I hope you are keeping safe and well👍👍

Wow very interesting walking tour. Not a single big tree I can see. However, the view is spectacular! Super enjoying to watch 👍

I knew a climber would probably come up with the name 👍 😁 Yes, great walk. Was nice to have good visibility for a change!
Haha, it is indeed the name used by UK climbing, but I actually first heard it in an Andrew Beavers video, he's done a wild camp there.
Man the shot at the 12:22 mark was beautiful! I like how open it was throughout your hike and you captured some great shots my friend!
Thanks very much! I believe in ancient times it was heavily forested, but these days all open moorland with panoramic views. Hope you are keeping well👍
