The brand-new Eight Sleep Pod 4 is a significant upgrade over the Pod 3, with more features, like new temperature controls and an adjustable base, faster cooling, and, if you get the ultra version, the ability to reduce your snoring; or maybe more importantly, your partner’s snoring as well. The Eight Sleep Pod 3 has been my favorite sleep improvement device for a while now, so let’s see if the Pod 4 can improve on this. Similar to the Pod 3, the Pod 4 simply wraps around your mattress, and provides temperature control, health tracking and much more. In this video we will take a look at those new features and scientifically review the Pod 4 Ultra. We will independently and systematically test the sleep stage tracking, the heart rate and heart rate variability accuracy, and the breathing rate measurements. And of course we'll take a look at one of the most interesting features, snore reduction. Finally, we will also look at the patterns of the cooling and heating of the Pod 4, and how that correlates with my core body temperature. I will also discuss who should upgrade their older generation Pod to the Pod 4; and Pod 3 owners will be happy to hear that even though the Pod 4 is better, the Pod 3 is still good enough in most situations, but it depends.
Before starting the testing, let me give you an overview of the Pod 4’s and Pod 4 Ultra’s features and improvements over the Pod 3. One of the main new introductions is the "Tap to Control'' feature. If you tap twice on a sensor on either side of the bed, that side will cool down further, or if you triple tap it will warm up, and these actions are always confirmed by a vibration motor. This means you don’t have to get your phone out to make adjustments during the night. This tapping can also be used to mute the alarm, and if you get the ultra version, a quadruple tap will actually change the position of the bed.
The Pod 4 will come in two versions, the normal Pod 4 and the Pod 4 Ultra, which also includes an adjustable base that can elevate both the head and feet

Hey are you planning on reviewing the Withings ScanWatch 2. I know your busy and you do have a life but I want to buy the ScanWatch and I don’t know if it’s more accurate then the first generation.
Do you have a referral link for EU (EUR prices)?
@@mtsrln It should also work in euro?
Huawei watch fit 3!!!! Yess but i'd like also to see Huawei band 9 retested later to see if software updates solve those inaccuracy problems of if it's hardware related. Curious to see if Huawei watch fit 3 suffers from the same problems though...will definitely wait for your reviews! :D
Oh oh, i saw a huawei watch fit 3 on your wrist. Nice!
Haha, indeed!
@TheQuantifiedScientist I saw it too. What are your initial thoughts about it?
Is it a downgrade as the Band 9 or is it something promising?
Can't wait for your review of huawei watch fit 3
i hope it is even more accurate than the watch fit 2 andnhas more sport modes
@@fluffypuffyboy586 the gps was the only "bad" parameter on watch fit 2, and the sleep mode. If they have improved this 2, it will be a really nice purchase in my opinion
Hey Rob, thanks for the review! I ordered the pod 3 in December through your link and finally got it in January, hope you got the benefit. So far I'm pretty unhappy with it. Auto Pilot is doing sh*t for me, I'm still waking up quiet often, it regulate the temperatur according to outside temperature according to some data from the Internet, sometimes cooking me and waking me up, but the things that pisses me of the most are the sleep tracking, it constantly detects around 30-70min more sleep than my Apple Watch 9 and my Oura ring 3. Sometimes it even detects deep sleep while I'm scrolling my phone, for sure not sleeping. The other thing is the Alarm, settting it to 6:00 am, it starts warmin up the bed at 5:35am and sometime it activates the vibration, which also goes of at 5:35. and finally once a month it stops working due to a alegedly empty water tank, which turns out to be almost full missing 1-3 cm on average. I don't mention the ridiculous scores on routine or the sleep score. Seeing the HRV has less data points than the oura ring but Eight sleep is claiming theirs is better make me even losing more trust in them. Why don't they record it constantly if they don't have to worry about Battery life? When I saw the pod 4 dropped I was thinking about exchanging it for my 3 but seeing it's even worse on sleep tracking, makes me questioning the whole company. There's just no value in that thing beside warming or cooling your bed and manually dailing it in, because Autopilot is doing sh*t except cooking me from time to time or deep freezing me sometimes.
Hi! Thanks for sharing, and sorry to heat about your experience. I haven't had these issues... What did Eight Sleep say?
@@TheQuantifiedScientist Well, during my several complains they did various tests, checking everything, adjusted it and said everything is fine. Last time it stopped working sifter losing 1cm of water, it didn’t recognized the Tank and gave me the red light of death. It took them a couple hours somebody performed a remote access to made it run again but still with the red light shining, after two days test e light turned white and they refused to exchange any part because it runs perfect but they advised me to put the WiFi router in clear side of the pod, not further distanced than 5m because my bad WiFi connection allegedly is the reason for al my issues 😄 my WiFi is 3m away, right below the wood floor. To my various points of my complaints they said nothing. Just everything is fine, they updated the firmware, ran tests, found no issues, it’s due to bad WiFi. But many of my complaints are addressed with the new generation of pods. 🤷🏼♂️ It doesn’t keep the promise, it doesn’t deliver and overall I think it’s a bad product especially from a software and score perspective, but I would give the 4 a shot if I could trade in my 4 month old pod 3 for a reasonable price. But another 2500€ because the frame (ultra pack) isn’t available in Germany.
@@Marco2710x My experience with them was a nightmare too. Product did not help at all, and customer service was horrible. Returned
@@Marco2710x That's really not nice for such an expensive product. And always tricky when a new version gets released after you bought the older one... Sorry to hear you had a negative experience, but thanks for sharing it here!
Great review as always. Eagerly awaiting your scientific review of Huawei Fit 3 before I rush to the stores. Thanks
Hey btw love your videos. Also are you planning on testing the Withings ScanWatch 2?
Now that Huawei Watch Fit 3 is out, I am already waiting for your review
testing it now 🙂
Me too
Thanks for testing this sleep device. More please!!! 👍😃
Thank you so much for reviewing this! How do you think this compares quality wise to a Withings sleep analyser?
Just received the Firmware Update on Huawei Band 9 awhile ago. Hoping all of you received the update as well and what changes in performance did you notice, Me I did notice some changes but let's wait and see the full review.
Hi Rob,
Thank U so much for all the reviews. I bought a Watch about a year ago after I saw some of your videos and I am very happy with the decision I made thanks to you. And despite the fact that I got what I wanted I am still here. I like your videos. So thank again very much.
I want to start to track my sleep. I was wondering are there any differences on how the apps collect or show date? Are there apps that work better or is the kind of watch you wearing the only critical factor. I was thinking about some might classify e.g. REM sleep in wrong category. I am on iOS (with an Apple Watch) but I think in comparison Android option would be interesting too. Do you have experience with some apps? I thought because you know data best and you have all the data ….
I was waiting another video for Huawei Band 9. But great video :)
Hey Rob, thanks for the review! Are there any cheaper option to warm up or cool down following the temperature of body during the nigh?
We need a scientific video about the Huawei Watch fit 3 !!
You beat me to it 😂. We need it NEOW!!!!
Check my wrist in this video ;-)
16:31 thank you for letting me sleep on your bed
Of course Shervin! Was great to have you over , and thanks again 😊
@@TheQuantifiedScientistThanks for doing all this testing. You’re the only one who does it right! Are you planning on testing the Withings ScanWatch 2?
Was expecting another video, I keep holding myself from ordering the Huawei band 9, still waiting for your full review Rob!
Hello Will you review the huawei watch fit 3 ?
Your work is awesome !!!
Thanks! Yes, wearing one in the video ;-)
Over £4000!! Wow.
Yeah, the product may be supervalid but almost nobody can afford it
And you need some bullshit subscription on top. I know sleep is one of the most important aspect of health but come on, comapnies are just rinsing us at this point
and that thing is still not accurate lol@@mismagiuz
Haha, yes, expensive, but if I didn't own one already, I'd likely get the version without the base 😊
Not just all that money up front, it's also subscription based and they claim it's necessary to "ensure quality". MF, that should be ensured by the insane up front price tag. Glad QS reviewed this, but it's a hard pass for me, you know, because I'm not a millionaire ffs...
Can you review the HUAWEI Watch Fit 3, please cuz you're are the best of the best 👏👏
I'm in India, playing a high-stakes game of 'Watch the Review, Secure the Fit!'
I'm sprinting to get there before the Pre-Order (in other countries) stock runs out, all while praying the Huawei Fit 3 lives up to the hype, based on your review.
Can't wait to watch your video about the Huawei watch fit 3 👀
Please do a full review with new HUAWEI WATCH FIT 3. Thanks.
Yes, testing right now
Great as always. How good does it go and did you subjectively feel like your sleep is better with it?
Subscription is ridiculous. Computing can be totally done locally. For the price, they can jam like 10 state of the art silicons. So really, there is no excuse. They are just fucking with the customers.
Woah, already reviewed on launch day. Thanks for your hard work!
My pleasure! 😇
Can you make a full scientific review about the new huawei watch fit 3?
Thank you so much. I really love your work and dedication.😊

Hi, can you please tell us if you are going to make a Huawei watch fit 3 review or not? I am going to buy it but i am waiting for your review first
Yes, it will be there in the next weeks
@@TheQuantifiedScientist Thank youu. I love your videos allot. Your one of the few channels that do useful reviews and not just read specifications. Keep it up❤️✨
You should do a Withings scan watch 2 review!
Please review watch fit 3
HEY ROB!! are you going to test Huawei watch fit 3? I want to buy it but first I want your review ❤
Costing $4,000 (Pod 4 Ultra)...it better make my Breakfast in the Morning.
Hello Rob, thanks for nice video! What do you think is minimum deep sleep accuracy for device to be able to reveal trends and give ability to detect changes in deep sleep in response to lifestyle changes? You mark 61% accuracy as decent, i'm interested what can this kind of accuracy offer for general consumer?
My comment may sound a bit critical, but I'm also asking this question myself trying to get some clue on minimal accuracy for sleep tracker to on which i can base my decisions
Great work as always, Rob! Very disappointed that there are no improvements in sleep tracking.
Please make a Huawei watch fit 3 review !!😊
Oh just saw it on your wrist ! Niceeee
Good catch!
@@TheQuantifiedScientist
When will the review be out ? 😅 Got my popcorn and wallet ready 😁 (thanks again for your efforts)
please review Huawei watch fit 3🙏
Thank you for all your hard work. Any chance to test the Ultrahuman Ring Air? Curious to compare it to the Oura ring 3
Wow, I love how much data you analyzed. You've earned a subscriber!
Thanks as always for the great content 👍🏻 would love to see a scientific review of the OnePlus Watch 2 though, is that possible? 😊
The more i research the more i think the best option one has, by far, is getting an apple watch even for someone like myself who doesnt have or use an iphone. I can get a second hand iphone se for 100€ or less, a apple watch se for 250 new(150 used). Is there anything better for less than that? The only bad thing about that is the battery life of the apple watch se, which i wonder how much better it would get if one just turn off all the notifications and stuff alike.
Is there anything else u would recommend? i would love something with very good sleep tracking, good sports tracking and gps.
seems hard to find anything else with all this in one package
Also, amazing vids!!!! love the fact and research backed videos u make, thank you
I am considering buying the Huawei Watch Fit 3. Do you already know if you will also do a test on it?
$4000+ AND a subscription is insane to me. Don't want to take away from this great analysis video, but that's just crazy pricing.
It would be great to hear about these cheaper cooling-only options....
Hei! Are you planning on reviewing huawei watch fit 3? Looking good (on paper) watches 🙂
Are you going to do a review of Huwei watch fit 3
Can you review more Xiaomi watches please? Would really appreciate it. Keep up the good work!
Is huawei watch fit 3 video coming soon?
How about huawei band 9 full review?
Already posted
Huawei fit 3 review please!
Seriously impressive results especially in the sleep stages! Curious about how different sleep positions might affect detection. Best part testing this device only involves sleeping instead of strenuous exercise 😂
I am seriously considering a pod three or four and am wondering if in your subjective or objective assessment thus far, if your sleep quality is similar between the three and the new four version? Thank you
Have you reviewed the Wesper? I believe it’s FDA approved. And they now have a subscription model which is affordable and allows. You to take as many tests as you want so you can test every day and change variables and see how it affects your sleep.
Why does no one ever talk about the actual cooling technology of these units? Is it some kind of refrigeration unit with a compressor? Just a swamp cooler using evaporation? (How quickly does the water disappear?) Does it use piezo-electric cooling?
Wherever I look to find such answers is just filled with boasts about performance compared to previous models -- unhelpful. Is there anyone out there with technical information who isn't a fanboy or on their marketing payroll?
Could you do a quantified test of how the pod 4 improves the quality of your sleep and if you notice any changes?
Hi! I’ve thought about this, but I find it very hard to find a good way of quantifying this. I would need to think of some kind of random way of sleeping with and without the eight sleep, preferably without me, knowing if it’s turned on. However, it’s basically impossible to not know if it’s turned on, so it would not be a blind study. of course I have a lot of data before and after I had the Eight Sleep, however, other things also changed in my life, so it’s difficult to draw, causal conclusions. Very interesting point though!
Yeah this would be a lot more interesting to me than how well the sensors on it work
Hey, Rob! Is there any chance you will review Huawei Watch Fit 3? It is on the market already and i wonder if its heart rate accuracy is good
he is currently testing it
Huwawi watch fit 3 review it now plz
You didn't put in the description about how the tapping works? But excellent review commenting for the algorithm
are you going to do a follow up video for the huawei band 9?
Great video!!!
Glad you liked it!
Hi Huawei watch fit 3 review 🙏 please ❤
Please do a long term scientific review about the Huawei band 9
I've wondered whether the cooling function of the 8 sleep would cause mildew from condensation. That's the most mysterious part of it for me.
Is it really 40% quieter? I'd upgrade if that is accurate because during heavy cooling I feel like the pod3 is louder than I like
Any plans to review the cheaper options that offer cooling?
Not unless they also pay him
Sorry for writing at this video but meaning one from one year ago but do you still know how you recorded the EcG graphic or raw data from the polar h10?
hi the huawei wtach fit 3 came out and i would maybe buy it but i allways look at your test before buying a watch.I would be really gratefuel if you could test them.
love your content btw
oh i saw it on your wrist yay
Haha, indeed!
May Sound silly to ask. Can you time it into an alexa? like voice say "raise bed temp a degree" or such??
If internet goes out. If you have back up power do you mean your wifi router, or do you mean internet access??
What is this combined with a bed that you could adjust the softness of the bed, like a sleep number or some of those beds?
I would be interested to know EMF, wouldn't make sense to test that too
hello my brother! Could you please do a video on Huawei watch fit 3? I would highly appreciate!:)
Hi would love to see your review on huawei watch fit 3
What is a reliable and inexpensive device to measure night time hrv? Apple Watch just doesn’t cut it for me.
I love that all the comments are about some watch and next to nothing about this overpriced ripoff. The few comments about it are people talking about how it doesn't work and is a scam.
Please review the new amafit Active smart watch.
Dang I want to review one now
What about the Evie Ring review? There's a lot of hype behind the product
waiting for the Huawei Watch fit 3 review
great, i'll get one for my dog
in the real world, lets have the huawei watch fit 3 tested, the watch fit 2 must be the best budget tracker available so far
Please, tell us something about Huawei Watch Fit 3!!
Interesting that the Pod 3 and Pod 4 sleep tracking is very identical.
Waiting for huawei watch fit review please.
it would be amazing if u could review the redmi watch 4🙏
...while this is definitely interesting (snorer), for that proud price (plus subscription) I dont see the value for me here: in HR and sleep tracking, a wearable is in several ways the better option; The movement of the bed is not necessarily an effective solution against snoring/ apnoe; And the temperature may only be useful for cooling in some very hot summer nights...
Any chance of testing the Xiaomi Mi Watch 2?
Huawei Watch Fit 3 please!!!
Please provide comparison of EightSleepPod4 and Apple Watch. This data would be priceless!
Hi! Yes, that is a good ide!
that cloud subscription is really deal breaker for me
bro please suggest us best sleep tracking fitness band from India
For that price it better track my running, cycling and weightlifting accurately like that polarH10 lol
The Francesco snore testing😅
One easy thing you could have done is measure the loudness of both devices. I.e. report the drop in noise level in dB for the new device, rather than just reporting what they said. The noise is the main problem I have with the device. Also, it may be interfacing with Apple Health in an odd way such that the sleep time I see in Apple Health is an hour too long.
Hi! Good idea! Unfortunately I couldn't have both install both at the same time
@@TheQuantifiedScientist You don't need them both installed. Just do the same as for your other data. Record the noise level now with whatever sleep pod you have now, then when you get a new model, test the noise again and compare that new noise level with what you recorded in your database or spreadsheet for the old device. The noise is an important part of the experience of these devices; seems to me that it's an entirely reasonable thing for you to record and share in a video.
Honor Band 9 Review? Thank You
I've noticed you don't include withings in your data, despite having reviewed many of their products. Is there a reason for that? I saw a withings watch cameo in this video.

18:35 I find the temp data a mess. 3rd night the skin actually lines up with the external sensor as they fall after midnight, but your body heating up (compensation for the falling temp ? or you were sick ?) 2nd night everything falling around 3am but skin sensor takes until 5:30 to start rising ? .... (everything fall your core increases ... again) 1st night the skin sensor make no sense but if take that little increase of core at 3-ish the pod was dropping just before, but still hard to correlate time wise. But yes, environment cools, you body might heat up to compensate. Make sense to me. You are also pretty warm over 37. Exercise before bed time ?
I've also tracked core body temp and have similar results. core temp during the day is around 37-37.5C and failing prior bedtime by 0.5C and in the middle of the night reaches. somewhere around 36.2-36.5C. This is normal circadian rhythm most people have. So Rob is not looking warm prior bedtime. Skin temperature is another thing which often goes inverse to core temp, so at first graph at the right you see default human core and skin temp patterns, nothing special.
@@quantifiedmax Maybe I'm just cold, my forehead temp never reaches 37 unless some workout. Sleeping temp seem ok.
@@IThinkICare forehead is not core temp, its a skin temp. rectal thermometer / digestable pill / vein catheter the nearest ones to measure core temp. Heat flux sensors also can approximate it with some acceptable accuracy.
@@quantifiedmax But Rob wasn't using those so maybe a bit less on the forehead. Would not call that skin temp as we measure fever on forehead but skin, more like "surrounding temp. " purpose.
