I've owned my e-208 for a couple of months now and Vicky's review is spot on. It's a great car! I would add that it's much nicer in the back with the panoramic sunroof. Anyone even half thinking about having one, go and test drive it because watching videos doesn't convey the real feeling of driving an EV.
I've got an e208. I don't think the argument of the EV model being more expensive than the equivalent fossil fuel variant is totally correct. They attract buyers from other sectors. My last car was a petrol Audi that was way more expensive than my e208. Most of my journeys are commutes to work and visiting friends & family easily inside the battery range. My area is becoming a low emissions zone too. Lots of the EV owners I've met whilst at public charging points have switched from expensive German status symbols to EVs made by what some consider 'lesser' brands. The prices of EVs will continue to fall as batteries get cheaper. On longer journeys I feel the need to take a half hour break after 150 miles anyway, I'm not a machine. I can also claim that fuel has become infinitely cheaper for me because I haven't paid anything to charge the car, I live near 8 free charging points.
Great review, thanks. I have a petrol version (100bhp) since December, with the automatic gearbox, which I absolutely recommend. The electric would be a good choice for me because I use the car mostly in town or in short trips, but it´s way too expensive. Greetings from Spain, sorry if I make some mistakes, English is not my native language, actually I see videos like this to improve it, apart from knowing new cars better. I like your accent by the way :). Saludos.
Yeah, I really don't understand the premium price, it's a huge step, and the battery really doesn't cost that much, they're just capitalising on the demand. That said, the fuel savings are still significant, and we found the slight overall premium acceptable to get the better powertrain, so should finally be getting our delivery next month!
Just been watching another video, where it turned out, that the claimed 217 miles ended up in a more moderate but real 161 miles. That's about 75%. I doubt the dealer will knock off 25%, but it is handy to bring to the negotiation table, if you favour the Peugeot brand.
All of the mainstream manufacturer electric cars are way too expensive. The average man in the street cannot afford the 30k plus for them. If they are not too careful Chinese manufacturers like MG will produce electric cars that are equally or nearly as good as the mainstream at a fraction of the price. I know overheads including labour are more expensive than Chinese labour rates, but I still believe that mainstream manufacturers can be less greedy on price. Great review as always. Thanks.
Hi yes I'm sure its absolutely perfect. Great video. However you have convinced us the public it's the best thing since Slice bread. But it doesn't reflect the real world. Do a video of a typical ice frosty mornings with temperatures of negative -5 at 5am in the morning and then tell me the range and how quick the car heats up what power its drawing to defrost the windows I can bet it's a totally different scenario? It it lives up to to these. Then I may just be convinced. However temperatures of above 2/3 degrees you will not have this problem. I think EV manufactures are hiding this very well advertised important flaw. Kind regards Danny uk
Just an idea. Wouldn't be possible to make some DYI thingy, which would hold the cables underneath the front bonnet? You don't need a cable very often anyway, many street chargers have their own and you can have one in the garage. Am I right?
7G more than the petrol version, better to buy the petrol version & use the 7g on fuel. It's still too early to go EV what with the shortage of chargers in France. Any change in doing a report on why the EV equivalent cars are so much more expensive, considering they have far fewer parts.
You have an error in your discussion about B mode being more efficient because it ups the "coasting" regen, this is not correct. The 208 has blended brakes like all but 1 EV (tesla), hence the rather squidgy brake peddle. The only difference of the normal and B mode is the amount of regen on lift off, but you still get the maximum regen using the brakes when you touch them - not even B mode gives you max regen - look at the regen gauge on the right. B mode is only changes the driving style, it does not affect efficiency since you still get regen on braking, but because the bite point of the friction brakes is the same (for technical ease) then the brake are a little bit more squidgy in B mode as the peddles does nothing for a while while you match the B mode regen. You could argue that it is difficult to maximise regen with just the brake peddle, but I would argue that if you exceed regen braking limits on most EV's (ie the max power recovery) in normal driving then the problem is your driving style.
All of these small electric cars which ever brand are way too expensive. I have seen new Lexus UX hybrids for 30k which is only 4k more than these small electric cars or you can get one year old UX's for 25k. Spending my hard earned, I would have the Lexus any day.
@@dennisreilly6012 Hi you can't get a used Fiat 500e in the UK. Also 7k won't buy you much in the way of a used electric car in the UK. Maybe a used Nissan Leaf or Renault Zoe which have a next to useless range and old tech. batteries.
The Puma is the absolute mildest of hybrids, though. You wouldn’t be running on electric-only aside from really low speed manoeuvres like parking. Sure you’d have no range anxiety but I think it’s really worth trying these out to see if that’s a real issue - many people who’ve recently gone electric have commented on how it’s a perception rather than a reality (easy to see why, though).
If you get the basic fossil model you do get the screen, but not the automatic climate control... so you get a slider in the screen to control the temperature manually🤦♂️ . Handsome car though.
The flow of electrical current to the motor that moves a hybrid vehicle produces electromagnetic fields (EMF). A number of studies have linked EMF exposure with serious health issues, including a possible risk of cancer, miscarriage and a higher risk of leukaemia among children
I test drove the Zoe. I didn't like my head against the roof without the facility to lower the seat. I don't drive anywhere near 200 miles without taking a break so I bought an e208 with the optional sunroof to avoid the gloom which helps enormously. It's yellow too (the no cost colour) so it brightens up the gloomy days. I'm not anti-Renault, far from it. I've had a Renault Clio Williams 2 and 172 in the past but I don't think the Zoe is nice looking. Renault build quality has improved though, when I sold my 172 I'd had from new the panel gap from the factory was so bad I had to prove it wasn't a rebuilt write off!
Emmm. Too dark and cramp for a 6’ person in the rear..... pity cos range sounds very useful and looks are good. But completely pathetic / cheap that they don’t include a domestic charging cable.
How can you claim several times that this car is more expensive than ‘an equivalent’ petrol car? Maintenance and part replacement costs are going to be much lower, electricity is much cheaper than petrol and this car will still have a resale value in five years. If you look at true cost of ownership over the lifetime of a car electric will already beat any equivalent petrol car by a mile every single time. Plus you’ll no longer destroy the planet with the current trend of electricity being generated from renewable sources only ramping up. A better, more fun car - cheaper to own - better for the planet and your children. Win-win-win! Why even promote petrol cars at all anymore, because this is true for pretty much all electric cars that are (about to come) out now.
It is more expensive, she is clearly talking about sale price. Even with lower maintenance and fuel costs my calculation still made it more expensive for the average driver over 10 years. If it lowers by €5000 or so, that might be a different case.
Curious to know what your journeys are? Are you regularly doing over 160 miles in a day, without stopping? I say this as someone who has a 100 daily round-trip commute.
Couldn't agree more. They want Joe Soap to spend Thirty thousand pounds plus for an over priced vehicle and won't give you a free cable! It's a total disgrace and pure greed. It really is.
Not even a mention of the Tesla Models Y or 3? How bizarre. "Same chassis as the Petrol and Diesel" and "built from the ground up to be an EV?"? I don't think so. Explain the need for that huge grill on an EV. No, this is a poster child for a car company that just doesn't get it.
Built from the ground up to be an EV and ICE - so what Vicky says is true. Much like Kia and Hyundai did with the Niro and Ioniq. The grille is entirely filled in and differs from the one offered on the ICE variants. The Model 3 and Y are at totally different price points and purposes to the e208 so it’s not really a fair comparison.
The cheapest model 3 is where I live €18k more expensive, that is a completely different class of cars. Model Y is €29k more expensive, almost double the price. So why should she mention Tesla models in a review about a cheaper/smaller class car? And the grill is just meant to make it look the same as other 208 models or rather peugeot cars in general. My mother has the 2008 petrol peugeot and it has the same grill just a bit bigger (and ofcourse actually meant to be used, unlike the e208).
Huh? This has a very nice design, no matter which engine is used and the batteries are cleverly placed in this one. Those with batteries flat over the floor take more legroom or the cars have to be made higher or then the sitting position more like you lay down, like in ID3.
@@Sherukka An EV doesn't need a bonnet, it needs cable storage. There is no fuel tank so the car's charging socket can be anywhere convenient for the charging station. There is no big engine at the front (or mod or rear) they can be on each wheel. To make an EV look like an ICE is as mad as early ICE vehicles been made to look like horseless carriages (the origin of the name car). I could probably continue for hours but you get my point, there is actually no reason whatever why an EV has to look like an ICE. The passenger compartment can be larger as the wheelbase is not constrained by the engine/gearbox configuration. They can be much more aerodynamic than any ICE vehicle because there is no need for a large heavy engine to be mounted above the axles.
