Can't believe this series won't be continuing. Everything about this show was phenomenal. Art direction, storytelling, voice acting, music, all of it. In my opinion this not only met but exceeded all expectations and standards from the original film, and with better humor and more emotion and character depth than most big name movies that come out now. Most prequels and revivals of old beloved titles don't even come close. I hope the Jim Henson team can find another way to continue their story.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you say, watching this series was like going back to the 80/90tys when there was still REAL magic in anything they created in movies.
I grew up with movies like Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, The secret of Nihm, A land before time, Total Recall, Terminator, Jurassic Park etc...Now THOSE were the days.
Nowadays they bombard you with excessive hyperactive CGI, lame storytelling, dumb humour, and brain-dead actors.
I hope they find a way to do it in TV or film. The magic is not the same if it is a comic or novel. Besides, they did do a manga before, I think, but it became non canon after Age of Resistance so any printed media will likely be vulnerable to being declared non canon
Canceling this series was a mistake. I have no reason to keep netflix now.

Actually quite a few people asked for a sequel or prequel to the Dark Crystal film, but no one imagined they would create an absolute gem of a TV series.

It's been 2 years since this wonderful show was cancelled and I'm still angry about it. The creators, puppeteers, writers, directors, set designers, Lisa Henson and everyone involved with this work of art deserved so much better. When is someone going to pick this up for season 2? The majority of the expenses are already paid the puppets and sets exist! One day we will see season 2

I remember reading somewhere they sold off the puppets, props and sets already. I don’t know how true that is, but even if they’re all just sitting in a storage container, these things degrade over time if they’re not maintained and might not become usable anymore. Breaks my heart that we’ll most likely never see a second season ever 😢

Same. It's just so sad that at the time he did "The Dark Crystal," it went underappreciated by critics and didn't become the phenomenon it is today until long after he died. Shame on the people who didn't understand this masterpiece Jim created.

Pocahontas actually it wasn’t HBO fault. HBO was giving the writers 2 more seasons but they wanted to rush it so they could do the Star Wars movie
absolute magic.
The cgi wasn't over used. The story was fantastic. The actors were amazing. The puppeteers were perfect. This had me, from start to finish. Multiple times over!

@@reginaldforthright805 I’ve seen the behind the scenes documentary, and there is little CGI used, I think it was just too expensive for Netflix to make and not enough people watching. It’s a shame since this show was a masterpiece.

@@reginaldforthright805 No, not at all. Netflix already said it was too expensive to produce without bringing in enough new subscribers. Their model isn't based on keeping existing subscribers satisfied but bringing in new ones, so they'll keep scrapping older series and creating new ones to keep fresh subscriptions flowing while ensuring that older subscribers see their favourite series get scrapped over and over. It's a meat grinder for shows.

I want a revival of the classic Muppet Show - old and new characters doing a variety show in the New Muppet Theater with a special celebrity guest every week. That might be in the cards for Disney+, but I’ll take it anywhere I can get it.

It's just like NBC cancelling The Storyteller after nine episodes! Even though _it_ won an Emmy! (Granted 4 more episodes of Greek Myths were produced, and I _do_ hear word of a revival of the show with Neil Gaiman.)
Netflix is starting to have little regard for proper visual storytelling, they run a show until it's profitable and then cancel it out of the blue. The more indie type shoes tend to be viewed less that main stream crap like the kissing booth... They care more about quantity and not quality. Some shoe runners are able to be firm about it having a limited number of series, but netflix turns many of their shows into sitcoms essentially. Hopefully they will do more shoes like the queens gambit, with only one or two seasons. Even the speed at which they shoot seasons tells you alot. HBO spends a year shooting and makes quality content, netflix puts out 3 seasons in the space of a year and a half. When I watched season one of caos, I hoped it would come back every halloween, and stopped watching it after season 2 because it started to turn into riverdale...

An absolutely f*cking outstanding series. Does justice to the movie whilst simultaneously setting up new lore, new characters and a whole new story.
Yeah, i couldn't agree more. Anyone that is on the fence about watching this needs to pull their heads out and get to work. I remember the movie when i was young but didn't completely love it because of those damn Skekis who repulsed me but i watched it again later on, and the myth and lore is so good. This prequel series came out of nowhere for me. I hadn't been paying attention, and then i caught the teaser which was intriguing.
Then this masterpiece of a trailer dropped and i was entranced. Whomever created this trailer needs to reveal themselves right here because they deserve so much praise for just how hyped up it makes you. I've started watching the show, I'm only halfway through it but holy hell the love, care and respect for Henson is all over it. The world building, creatures, music, aesthetic, puppetry is stunning, and i have to talk about the voice acting because the weight and gravitas that the actors bring to the puppets is something else.
It's also dark, and as much for adults as the children. A certain scene at the end of episode 1 broke my heart and was so brutal in it's callousness, and then the Skekis monologue over the end montage set up just how serious and heavy the story is. All I'll say is that whatever this miniseries goal was it achieved it, and so much more. It has an epic lord of the rings, great fantasy saga feel. It tells a story that was only hinted at in the movie, and sadly we know, especially with the 80's movie lore that however long this prequel runs for - it doesn't end well for our heroes. I can't wait. \0/
Agreed, I started watching yesterday and binge-watched the whole thing. I am watching the 'making of' special now. A magnificent effort. Henson would be proud.
Well the puppetry does do justice it is not canon considering the general is killed and he becomes emperor in the movie and this is supposed to be a prequel
@@edgevericarz8328 If you notice when he get's stabbed by the dual glaive you can see Essence or something like that being drained into the sword. Considering they want to make a 2nd series (if Netflix allows), I'm fairly sure the General will be revived.

Well, i did'nt know it was a movie and then a series at first, i was just playing the game thinking it was a random sympathic indie game before realising that the license existed since already 30 years xD! Maybe you'd like to try it out, it's a tactical RPG, and it's pretty nice ^^

Season 1 is a triumph on all levels. As a lover of the original film I could have never even dreamed a better realization of this series. The sheer intricate detail of Thra, and it’s vast multitude of creatures is absolutely astounding. With a seamless combination of practical effects and CGI, Age of Resistance has achieved that which only a handful of TV shows and movies have been able. This is Netflix’s masterpiece
Check out the voice cast. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Simon Pegg, Sigourney Weaver, half of the Game of Thrones cast and a Harry Potter actress for good measure. Wow!

Kinda reminds me of Blade Runner 2049. A sequel to an older cult classic that was critically acclaimed but financially bombed. A shame but I understand. Netflix is a business, not a charity.
Really hate Netflix right now. I am extremely disappointed and angry and sad. This show literally won an Emmy and had beautifully crafted animation, phenomenal music composition, and Game of Thrones Golden age (First 4 seasons of GOT) level story telling and writing. According to a cinemablend article I found The Henson Family has ties to Apple TV (who ordered Fraggle the Rock reboot series), HBO Max streams sesame street, and Disney+ has a Muppets show. I'm hoping when Lisa Henson says "continue the story" she means (or at least tries) to have one of these networks pick up Dark 💎 and continue the story with the same animation and puppets (or animation that looks like it). If not I would settle for a novel (not graphic I prefer using my own imagination). I hope Apple TV, or HBO Max or even 😩😩😩 Disney+ picks it up even if we have to wait till 2021 or 2022 to see it.

I LOVED this series. Straight from seeing the final episode, this series deserves so much more love than it currently gets. The sheer creativity, heart, passion, and love for the world Jim Henson created is just wonderful. Literally EVERY character was a joy to watch and see. Every episode was a piece of moving art, teeming with life. Words can't express how devastated I am to hear they aren't finishing the series on Netflix. BIG mistake. IT LITERALLY JUST WON AN AWARD.
I hope the story will be told elsewhere, and in whatever way that will be, I will be waiting for it.
Every character wasn't a joy to watch unless you like watching weak males only there to make personality devoid 'perfect' females look good.
I just heard that Netflix canceled dark Crystal age of resistance. My son has autism and he loves♥️ that show📺 and I grew up watching that movie📺 it's like one of my all-time favorites. Can you believe they cancel season 2😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 geez anything else they want to take off.
I'm autistic too, and i loved this, i feel genuinely upset and depending where your son is on the spectrum, he might be more upset, i hope he's able to understand how nasty Netflix can be about this, a lot of shows i love that a lot of people haven't heard about have been cancelled and it upsets me whenever i think about it

This series is my favorite of all time. Such artistry, beautiful storytelling and amazing characters. Hits every emotion and encapsulates you throughout the whole ten hours. I’ve bought all the merch like the tshirts and funko pops, just wish they could bring it back somehow. Now matter how many trine I’ll be waiting for the day we return to Thra.

They tried to do that a few years back, but it never got off the ground. It was called The Power of the Dark Crystal and the screenplay was later adapted into a comic book.
They have said that they have plans for two more seasons of this show and more stories set in this world.
There's several source material they can pull from. So it could happen.

No one has noticed that in any trailer or scene the Garthim appear? I think this series will end when the Skeksis make the Garthim and possibly a second season is the Garthim Wars that is when the Getflings are exterminated.

At this point, I’d be happy if the second season was the CGI they were originally going to do. Long as the original cast and creators and writers are on it, I’d still be all for it.

Turns out the Netflix executives are the real life Skeksis who will drain kids of their innocence in pursuit of eternal profit and political grandstanding.
I only go on to Netflix to rewatch this masterpiece over and over.
Just finished the first season; I was blown away by the set design, cgi and puppeteering, as a big fan of the original film, I can proudly say this show does it and Jim Henson justice, watch it for yourself and you’ll see, can’t wait for S2

I agree that it's better without CGI but those puppets look so fucking wooden. They way they talk is just ridiculous. So much has improved in the way of puppetry since the original Dark Crystal and it really would've helped if they made those mouth movements a little more realistic. They've created a great landscape for these characters to live in but fell really short when it came to the puppets. If Jim Henson had the sort of technology available these days at his disposal back when he came up with the first movie I doubt very much that he would not have used it. He would've jumped at the chance to make the characters more realistic if he could if he had the technology to do so. Will be giving this one a miss. After the anticipation of seeing a a follow up to a film I loved as a young kid I'm pretty bummed out that they didn't put as much efforts into making the characters less stiff, less wooden and more realistic like the beautiful land they inhabit. They've improved the fairy tale landscape dramatically but didn't even try when it came to the central characters. All I can see is a bunch of wooden puppets. If Jim were alive today I think he would've done more to bring the characters to life. Just like me I think he would be disappointed that they makers of this series didn't even try to make the characters more realistic in the way they express themselves. They just look like they've all had lip fillers and have had their faces botoxed to within an inch of their lives.

Chamberlain is easily the most recognizable character in the Dark Crystal.
They have to put him and all the other Skeksis in the movie. There would only be one extra which was the original emperor that died in the beginning of the movie.
there's also going to be the hunter and the heretic, two skeksis that died pre-movie
Just finished the show today and found out there isn't gonna be a season 2. Started it bc I just needed something on the tv and... damn. What a creative and weird show that was. Surprisingly well written, well paced, well planned. If there's any show that deserves a second season, or at least an awesome movie, it's this one

Just binged the whole first series over the course of today and it’s INCREDIBLE.
A fantasy epic of the highest calibre and everything the fans ever could have hoped for, as well as being accessible to anyone who’s never heard of the original movie.
Everybody watch it to get the viewing figures up! This needs another season! And maybe even a third, where they could remake the original film’s story.

So 5 minutes ago I watched the original Dark Crystal for the first time in my life and absolutely fell in love with it. Immediately after that I went on RUclips to watch some review videos and reflect on the movie a bit. And I come across this trailer. I almost cried. This is the fantasy we don't deserve. Thank you Netflix.

The Dark Crystal series is pure magic! I get a Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, and Avatar vibe on top of Jim Henson's puppets and Brian Froud's art. A show I didn't realize I needed.

I was thinking the same thing. On the one hand, it's lovely to revisit a long-past world as imaginative and evocative as the one from The Dark Crystal, but on the other hand, the original movie was already a self-contained story. I worry that the prequel, while gorgeous-looking, will just end up telling us what we already know from the beginning of the movie.
Still, I'm holding out hope. It would be nice to revisit an old movie world once again . . .

That's usually what a well done prequel aims to accomplish anyway.
