    My Dual Rectifier is my desert island amp. As a product of 90's Ska Punk, This amp was the sound of Rancid, Sublime, and everything else. I'm glad you highlighted how good the clean channel is for Ska

      That's what I'm talking about, Craig! I would take the crunch and the spongey feel of it any day over just about everything.

    I bought a Mesa Single Rectifier Solo 50 around 2006 brand new for $1299 Canadian. Haven't thought about buying another amp since. Works great for playing with a loud band but still sounds good for quiet home practice.

      Nice! Twins! That's about the same time this one showed up in my life. It was definitely in that $1300 USD price range. I've tried so many amps and this one still just makes me super happy. Glad you have one too! If you get a load-box like the Captor then you can throw on some headphones and let it rip.
      Really appreciate you watching!

      @@BradDollar That's interesting, didn't know about a load box. In 2006 the Canadian dollar was on par with the American so good deals were had by all. If you've got any interest, I still have a complete 2006 Mesa Boogie product price list. I could scan you a copy if you'd ever like to take a look. 4x12 Cabs for $899. Dual Rectifier for $1699. Although it might just upset people seeing the prices.

    Hard to believe but I bought my first gen single rectifier from a co worker who wanted to get the amp off his hands because he had to much clutter lying around. He sold it to me for $350. I still have it to this day.

    Nice review. I have a love/hate relationship with my Single Rec. lol. There are days it sounds great and other days it’s just a pile of mush. Current set up is with a TS-9 Tube Screamer and Boss EQ 7 band in the front of the amp. To help shape the tone.

    • @BradDollar
      @BradDollar  5 месяцев назад +1

      Appreciate you! This amp is definitely a dance of gain staging between the master volume, channel volume and the gain. So I totally get it.
      Not to make you buy more stuff, but you might want to try those pedals with a buffer, like the TC Electronic one. When I'm running multiple effects, I run one right before the input to the amp. I love the buffers in Boss pedals (believe it or not) but they do get really mushy when you try to combine them with other pedals into an amp. The TS9 and the EQ7 are awesome, especially with this amp, so I think it's just about getting that impedance balance right. I hope that helps sharpen up your beast!
      And thank you a ton for watching!

    thanks for the video Brad! really enjoyed learning about the history of this amp and hearing how the different voicings sound. i had always seen it around but never gave it much thought.
    as a bassist my favorite amp is my incredibly reliable SWR workingman's combo (i still have it after 20 years). however i did just buy a Bose s1 pro for gigging on vocals and uke and I'm really impressed with its performance. works well with the bass too.
    keep the videos coming brother 💪

    • @BradDollar
      @BradDollar  5 месяцев назад +1

      Oh you got one of those Bose!? Those are great for vocals and acoustic instruments. They got that thing dialed in.
      SWR stuff is great too. I’m less knowledgeable about bass gear but I always liked their stuff. Felt like it sounded really good in a mix. I’ll always be a fan of the Redhead Amp.
      Appreciate you watching! Always great to share something like the memories of this amp with you. This one goes all the way back to the Society’s Edge days 😂.

    this is awesome, I want one so bad now. Do you think the Line 6 models sound anything like this?

    • @BradDollar
      @BradDollar  5 месяцев назад

      I bet they’re fairly close! I haven’t heard the latest versions, but even the old school POD versions weren’t bad. I’ll take real thing but you can definitely get in the ballpark with Line 6 if money or space are an issue.

    thank you for this video! learning a lot about amps. can you play acoustic guitar through it?

    • @BradDollar
      @BradDollar  5 месяцев назад

      Awesome question! That might be kind of wild and you will definitely get feedback, but there’s nothing stopping you! There are some great Rolling Stones records with acoustic guitar run through an amp. At the very least I know the clean channel will sound awesome. I say give it a shot! Maybe try the mini-rectifier they make so it’s not so blistering loud.

    Find me an amp that’s been used in heavy music as much as and for as long as the Rec. There is nothing. Not modded 800s, not the SLO…none of them. Rectifiers have been used on basically every heavy record over the last 30 years

    • @BradDollar

    I've wanted to get a Rectifier seriously for about 25 years now! It's my favorite guitar tone of all time....however, every tech I've talked to warned me to never buy one. Poor circuitry layout, under rated capacitor values, nontransparent schematics & difficulty to service...all stopped me from buying one. I seriously don't understand why Mesa doesn't address these issues because I want to be a customer but not with these problems.

    • @BradDollar
      @BradDollar  3 месяца назад +1

      For what it’s worth, it’s never once been in the shop and I’ve had this thing for over 20 years, including a huge chunk of time where I was less than careful with my gear (touring, recording, being a goofy kid). That said, I’m sure some of the Mark series or the Road King are a repair person’s worst nightmare though.
      If that worries you then I wouldn’t be afraid to go the Kemper/AxeFX route. I’ve heard some incredible models that more than pass the test. I can’t imagine not using the recto tone somewhere in most of the music I make.
      Thank you for watching and being here!
