I have a 06 Pete with a Acert C15, and I rebuilt it last year and was going to single turbo it. But the guy who rebuilt it for me said to leave it alone and tuned it to 625hp. And I absolutely love it, the heavier the payload the better it runs and the jakes on this thing is the chefs kiss.
I have a detroit 60 14Liter in my older truck 06 western star. EGR removed, Better turbo. Modified ECM. 600 hp 2000torque. pulls and sounds great! my newer western star is DD16 manual trans, same power, but with highway gears. love it too. We have a lot of Cats on the farm also. None are tuned up though. they are getting old and the cost of rebuild is crazy! Detriots all the way!
They're both great engines. I'd love to have either one. I favor a series 60 slightly more for two reasons. 1) They're cheaper to rebuild. 2) they're lighter. The E model cat is an excellent engine too though.
You right 2 different motors. But you also gotta factor gears. My heavy wrecker has a Detroit 12.7. It gets good Mileage but lacks on hills. But runs well with cummins and cat on flat land
Im a dump truck guy so for me its the n14, e7 and c12 in that order. I dont deal with any hills at all and couldn't care less about hp. 12.7 a great motor as well.
12.7 here....have 2 pre emissions ddec4 12.7s and a ddec5 14l series 60s....like he said.....cost effective dont care about torque...although the 14l has more torque.....only care about consistent money making..i run 80k max and run in flat Texas 12.7 all day...independent owner operator....Love my 15k cash 2000 freightliner Century Class...... Of course in my '23 W900L i have the X15, it does ok, 5.6 -6.4, usually groosed out. went up to Omaha with meat, loaded back in Iowa with Pork sausage, then Tuesday back out to West Tx to get another load of beef. Yea i would definitely start looking for that specific block keep it at the backbunner until 12.7 goes that's the last thing you're gonna need cuz truck n trailer are getting done n when you do get it you can paint n rebuild block to match truck hopefully God willing everything goes well I'll probably see you at mats
Yessir glad you made this video my fld120 got a 5ek CAT and I love the motor got a lot of hp for me and super strong and sounds really really good you can feel the whole road shakin and humming when you driving but yes parts are expensive I’ve already had to put 6 brand new injectors cup sleeves wire harness sensors but it’s well worth it
The EM9 is the best of them Scania make a V8 16ltr that we get in Australia they set them up for road trains @800 HP and all torque awesome watching trippels running through the cogs when they are set up they march up the hills past everything

Yes mate i know exactly what Detroit you are talking about i never drove anything with one i do know some fleet's that ran them here and a couple are still getting around every drive train and application have a specific drive line that works best we have had kta19 that worked well in one drive line and were a total folp in another i am the same i have no preference for any engine good luck mate safe travels
To give Detroit credit to your current Cat. Its not complete apples to apples comparison in terms of displacement 12.7L to 14.7L. Alot of torque/hp with the additional displacement. Not knocking Cat just food for thought.

The Detroit will run for a lot longer than the caterpillar and the moment you run a caterpillar with more boost and fuel you will not get many km out of them especially if you're truck is running hi ratio diffs they will work for years when they have the correct ratio behind them

Owner ops tend to care too much about horsepower. Fuel mileage is king. Cost of repair and maintenance is king. Anyone who knows anything will tell you, the second you increase power you begin to compromise reliability. It’s just a part of the game. Detroit 12.7 for me. Only care about cost effectiveness. All cats are great, just not as cost effectiveness or efficient as 12.7. Just business reasons 🤷🏾♂️.

This has a waste gate turbo so it cuts out at 30 psi
