I live in Pensacola Florida so do you have any recommendations where I can get help near me? I can only walk 1 block at the most before going completely numb. I must stop and sit down for 15 minutes or more before feeling returns. I’m healthy and was always active prior too. I had two vertebra’s with spondylitis and four bulging disc. Now have 6 rods and four spacers. The physical abuse is overwhelming but now the mental abuse from is taking me over. Any advice would be appreciated. Please and thank you.

    I was literally forced to do a C3-4 ACDF in order to let me finish my mandatory millitary service, 12 days before it ended. After an easy recovery, 7 months later the pain suddenly started again but now nothing touches it (before my surgery I endured the pressure and pain of a 7mm hernia with Ibuprofen and orphenadrine and at some point the symptoms faded). I am in constant pain for almost 4 months now and at this point I can't work but I am not entitled to compensation from the millitary unless I prove that they directly caused my hernia (they did through negligence) and there is no way in hell I can gather 4500 work days to get a disabilty retirement. Worst of all is I am 27. I don't want to be retired and in pain. I was going to start my own machine shop...now I don't know how to die without causing suffering to my loved ones...

    I was injured at work in 2016, I have seen 8 different surgeons; 7 agreed that I had 2 slipped vertebrae, that was pinching the spinal cord and nerve endings, and I would need a 360 fusion to repair it. At the end of October I was told that in order to have the 360 surgery (by the 8th surgeon) that I'd have to lose 75 pounds because the front incision wouldn't heal before infection set in. I started at 277 lbs November first of this year. As to date I have eliminated almost 100lbs. I experienced complete right leg paralysis and was sent to ER by my surgeon and he would meet me there.. which he never did. I was transferred to another hospital because my surgeon wanted me to see a neurologist. I somehow was transferred to the wrong hospital and ended up seeing a cardiologist instead of a neurologist... There hospital stay was a nightmare. I demanded to be released once I found out he was a cardiologist. My surgeon decided to go forward with surgery, however, he changed the surgery he would be doing. He decided to do a lumbar laminectomy instead of the 360 fusion. I am exactly 3weeks post-op and I have NO relief. The numbness, tingling and shooting pains still shoot down both legs and into my feet. I have the exact same pain as I did before surgery.. With a bit more added due to having surgery. I have been complaining that my spine does not feel stable but the surgeon keeps telling me that it is. He told me a week ago on the 15th of June when he removed my Staples that I had permanent nerve damage since I didn't have relief from the shooting pains. I again told him my spine feels unstable and he continues to disagree with me. I have the same amount of pain now that I had before surgery, only now I have the added pain of the 2 - 4 inch incisions and 2 drain holes, that somehow all got infected. And I was prescribed bactrium and finished then all, but still suffer from constant pain. What advice can you give me?

      Hi Mandi, Oh wow, so very sorry to hear about all that you've been through and are continuing to suffer from pain and nerve damage. We do treat many complex pain cases here and would be happy to review your case in more detail to see if you sound like a good candidate for our clinics. If you would like to send in your most recent imaging reports and overall medical history, you can contact us directly through our website or email, as well as phone. There are many times that the reason for the pain is spinal instability/ligament laxity but it is not found on the static x-rays or MRIs that are traditionally done. If the provider is not looking for instaility, they may only look at the discs or for spurs, masses, or other common problems seen MRI, but not match it up via physical exam, your history or symptoms. Hope we can help you. Wish you all the best in health!

    Wow I wish you had an office here in Southern California bc I had a fusion years ago at L-5, S-1 for a herniated disc and sciatica. I now have failed back syndrome. I have also had 4 other back surgeries to remove the hardware, have a vibrating Medtronic device implanted, a Medtronic morphine pump implanted, and then the implants removed bc my body was rejecting them. I also have scoliosis, kyphosis, and other orthopedic issues in my neck, shoulders and knees. I see a pain management doctor once a month now and have been for the past 13 years for the awful daily pain I have. I wish someone had told me that I may have had other back issues that could have been treated conservatively and maybe not even had to have a fusion surgery. Hindsight is 2020 now. These treatments post surgical only work when the surgery was a success and is slow healing due to age or severity. Most of the population are forced into pain management techniques that are unproven and expensive. If you take someone that’s had 7 failed spine surgeries take away their hydrocodone tell them to take 8 muscle relaxers a day and keep coming back for shots that do not work then prescribe psychotropic meds for pain mixed with other meds send them on their way and say oh by the way we can try blood platelets infusions even though their is NO clinical trials or research. Ah yeah modern medicine.

      He needs a good pain doctor, the opioid crisis has turned those of us that need them into shells of our former selves. Knee jerk reactions. You simply cannot take someone like your father and expect some bullshit business full of used car salesmen like pain management has become and expect anything different. The implanted tens device may help him if they can get through the scar tissue, you simply can’t prescribe PT to an elderly person that has been immobile for years. They are just taking your money. I know. Research Johns Hopkins and please whatever you do, research these claims made by Pain clinics that have all these new great treatments.

He had a failed fusion a year ago in the UK which they tried to correct within 2 months but he was left almost crippled, stuck in a hospital bed for weeks on end. When he finally made it home, he ended up back in hospital with sepsis from a urine infection and then covid. He now needs carers to wash and dress him, he still needs a walking frame and he is totally weak and exhausted and now has pain which he never had before the operation. He has no balance and we are deperate to know if this is as good as it is going to get. Nobody seems to give us any answers. He is living in hope but I fear what he may do if he thinks he has to stay like this.

    I had a partial microdiscectomy 4 weeks ago L5S1. Had amazing results for almost 3 weeks until the disc re-injurrd for seemingly no reason. Heading in tomorrow to try the same surgery again and hope it sticks this time. I'm very nervous for this one due to existing scar tissue from the last one and fear of nerve damage. Hoping for the best. Wish I knew if there were vitamins or something to take to enhance recovery. Also, how does one brace to cough/sneeze?! Wish the occupational therapist would cover this stuff.

      Hi Torn Ozmanjan, Sorry that you have only been offered surgery. In our experience, we do not see that fusion is the best option for most people, as we treat so many people who have ongoing symptoms after a fusion. In our offices, we look to stabilize the spine but in a natural way, by treating the ligaments and stimulating them to repair. If you would like our team to review your case in more detail and see if you sound like a good candidate for our center, we'd be happy to help. Wish you all the best in health and recovery from your back pain and instability.

    Hi doctor.
    I had microdiscectomy on L5 S1 approximately 12 years ago and since then I have had sciatic pain in the left leg resulting in muscle wastage to the left calf and pain.
    When I approached my doctor's they were quite dismissive and said they had got rid of a large herniation which could have have been more serious so they feel they have done their job although the pain is continuing and the calf wastage is there.
    I have recently seen a physiotherapist who has demanded another MRI scan because of the muscle wastage in the calf although I had a scan one year ago which they said from that everything looks fine.
    I find it very difficult to cycle pushing down on my car and I am quite concerned and Confused any help would be appreciated.

But 42% si joint wont show on MRI i am getting injections on si joint to see if my pain is coming from there. If that fails then fusion surgery on l5-s1 since my disc slipped 50%. Always try different options before considering surgery

I am now one week post op and feel tightness, soreness and pain in my right buttock going toward my right hip/flank. Discomfort is usually highest in the morning. Hi Jamila, So sorry that you are experiencing this. Please confirm with your surgeon what is to be expected after their procedure, as we would love to help you but you'd need to first be released from their care. Unfortunately, it is common for surgery not to resolve pain and these are the patients who end up in our offices. The main reasons are discussed in the video. If you have this problem after the surgeon says that they don't feel that they can help you any more, we would be happy to help. Hopefully, though, you get resolution of the pain very soon. Please reach out if you do not. Take care.

    Get a second and third opinion. Most insurance companies will pay. If not, it’s your back. Find out what a consultation costs and pay for it. You really don’t need new clothes, but you only get the one back.

      Hi Sassykulture surridge, Sorry about your pain coming back so soon after surgery. How frustrating. From our perspective and the reasons outlined in the video, this is more common than most people think. If the pain isn't gone, then it means the surgery did not address the real cause of the pain, which is likely from the ligaments. This is why we see so many post-surgery patients here because we specialize in treating ligaments. If you are struggling with pain after your surgeon has released you from their care, and you'd like our opinion on your case, we'd be happy to help. Wish you all the best in healing.

    My problems started at 23 at L4/5 they put me in traction for 6 weeks (prior I had 2 weeks intensive physio where she was trying to push the disc back in but this made me worse!) I then had a nerve root injection-walking ability decreased & leg giving way. Then chymopapian injection (they put it in the right hand side & it was the left side affected- I heard them say before anaesthetic- where’s her scan! That made me sorer, so goodness knows what it did! Then disc enucleation. I didn’t recover quickly & walking worse still sciatic nerve pain & lower back pain. A year passed, then surgeon decided to stress disc above (it burst) that was worst pain ever! Taken into hospital shortly after & spinal fusion L3-5. Still no pain relief. Another year another disc - bottom one - disc enucleation then not long after another fusion to S1. All this with other injection procedures in 4 years. I’ve been left in agony- only plus was 3rd disc had felt like a rotten tooth removed but still sciatic nerve pain- leg weakness & upper back affected by muscle spasms. I had my daughter at 36- affected my pelvis, she was an ounce off 10lbs by Caesarian. I got more bent over. Had physio etc but still in a lot of pain (but she kept me alive & helped depression!) another nerve root injection,this time burning Down front of thigh & groin pain. I’m 53 now- I’ve had multiple steroid injections into joints & my sacroiliac joint on left I’ve been told needs fusing as nerves affected- my whole leg is sore - sciatic, femoral,I’ve pain round my ankle, back & front of leg & foot. I can’t walk any distance, constant pain- I have a stick, crutch, walker & wheelchair. I also have pain in my hips- they said not bursitis but I get steroid injections there- helps right side but feel it stirs up nerves on left- can only lie on back or right side for short period. I can’t stand- I’m so bent it’s painful. Tried physio even hydrotherapy but still in agony & same symptoms.My GP doesn’t want me to get more surgery & I haven’t been given any guarantees! Unfortunately in the last 6 weeks my right side is very painful and my right leg goes numb after 5 minutes standing even when I walk my leg and back hurts. I had a second MRI a week ago and one of the neuro surgent recons I need a level 2 fusion...
    You are saying in your video that the prolo therapy can fix or help to reduce the pain and numbness by regenerating the ligament. Would you explain to me how exactly works? How the new ligament can help to fix my posture?
    Thank you.

      @@steveanderson1058 yes I had my second surgery but I am worse than before. After my second follow up and MRI the doctor told me he didn’t touch my right side at all. So 3 weeks ago he did the same surgery and shaved off my facet joints. I am in pain all day, can’t walk or stand more than 3 minutes. I am going to have a follow up with him soon but I know he wants to fuse me…I have been looking for other options as well and I have come across artificial disc replacement and facet joint replacement! Truly amazing stuff. The facet joint replacement is something which is very new and I think more doable but if you have bad spine. Unfortunately I don’t think they perform it Australian at all. The tree is a clinic in Germany where they are specialised for this and disc replacement. I wish I was a millionaire now…

    • @CaringmedicalProlotherapy
      @CaringmedicalProlotherapy  4 года назад

      Hi Michael Lol, Thanks for the question. Even if the surgery itself was done well, it can be that the patient did not have a good response for many different reasons. However, at that point, the lamina was already removed, the disc was removed, the joints were fused, etc. So, it makes the case a whole lot more complicated because there were permanent, irreversible changes have been made to the spine. Based on the numerous surgical failure cases we see and the research on surgical outcomes, we believe it should be seen as a very last option or in the case of an emergency life-saving situation.

    I’m 56 and have had severe scoliosis since age 11. I lived a normal life and exercised, went to college, worked as an RN. By age 53 I had to have a 2 stage anterior/posterior T4 to pelvic fusion. About 3 weeks ago I heard a loud pop followed by debilitating pain. A left rod fracture was found at L4-L5. My surgeon advised me that rod fractures happen all the time and I will have to learn to live with horrible pain. Should I get a second opinion? The pain is unbearable. Thank you! I’m also fused from C2-C7 after a bad fall. I had a lot of complications after that. I had 4 surgeries. But that finally healed correctly. The last surgeon saved me. He was the one who told me my scoliosis was severe and he sent me to a spine center.

      Hi Elaine, I had one failed spinal fusion from T-4 to L2. I became worse off after the fusion than I was before with severe scoliosis. I did lots of research and went to UCSF, Spine Center to see David Bradford, MD, Orthopedic. He did a revision surgery and added a bone wedge to give my spine a natural lower curve.. Dr. Bradford is retired now but he and his spine team fixed my failed fusion. That surgery lasted 5hours,,half the time of the first failed surgery. Now my pain is gone and I can stand, walk straight. Not all spine doctors are the same. Choose one who is well-renouned. I would personally choose UCSF if I had to go again, but there are other good places, mostly in Universities in major cities. I was lucky to have medical insurance to cover the cost.

      There is also the case where a person can have a chronic tissue based problem (cervical stenosis and osteophytes, inflammation and scar tissues) that can’t be treated successfully surgically and these are a trigger for central sensitization flare up. This is a bottom up situation and In this case opioids work to calm and prevent the trigger source pain thus helping to keep the central system calmed down, keeping a lid on all the mind body top down symptoms and even allowing for healing to occur. Sadly with the overreaction and irrational response to the “opioid crisis” and the big money in spine surgery the bottom up CS sufferers have lost the one tool that works consistently to reduce their bottom up caused top down suffering. Cannabinoids require a lot of experimentation to find the right one that works without the high or sedation. They may not be the best choice in bottom up Central Sensitization. The bottom line is these patients are complex and require an initial investment of time that most primary care practitioners want nothing to do with. So we are misunderstood and left to flounder and suffer. SHAME on our doctors. SHAME

    I had L5-S1 fusion and supposed to also have a foraminotomy for marked L5-S1 right foraminal stenosis. My post-op MRI was worse than my pre-op MRI (both read by same radiologist, best in the area!). Another local surgeon placed a spinal cord stimulator, I was a physician assistant in trauma orthopedics so I knew him well. He reviewed both MRI’s, told me not to expect much relief and another surgery would be technically difficult (in other words, go out of the area). Now what? My symptoms are far worse, I walk like I’m wearing an Edgar suit (Men in Black 😊)! I’m really trying hard to get a second opinion from specialist in failed back syndrome, they all require medical records, I have asked, requested, signed for those records 8 times yet still no records released. Why are they withholding my records????

    • @vzeller
      @vzeller 11 месяцев назад

      You wouldn't get L5-S1 fusion and a foraminotomy at the same level. That doesn't make sense. A foraminotomy decompresses the nerve compression caused by a disc bulge. Fusion removes the disc completely and replaces it with a cage so the buldge would be gone completely. The only reason you would need a foraminotomy and fusion at the same level is if your nerve compression was caused by bone spurs and they had to remove the disc and shave bone.

    2. Severe left neural foraminal stenosis at L5-S1, may impinge on exiting L5
