The Kamasu has been one of my favorite daily wear pieces since I picked it up a few years ago. My biggest complaint with it was the size of the crown. I wish they would have changed that with the new model. The new dials do look nice, and I may pick one up once the prices come down.
Just got mine today 'new Kamasu',. such a beautiful watch and looks and fits perfectly on my wrist ! Setting the whole thing up later, thanks for the video the colours match exactly as in real life
I like the indicies on the older model much better. Thats what attrackted me in the kamash that its not a 1on1 copy of the submariner. New one has more of this copy style
Just want to say that this is NOT the new Kamasu. Orient does not name their watches anything beyond reference numbers, and the original "Kamasu" (barracuda) was named for the slender, teeth-like hour markers. It makes no sense to call this watch Kamasu when it's clearly a Ray 3 if anything. Names for Seiko/Orient products were only recently bestowed by Western audiences, and reviewers who dub this watch the Kamasu 2 are clearly just doing it because the original was popular and/or they assume Kamasu 2 is it's official name. It's not.
I do like the new faded dials - however I prefer the squared hour markers rather than the circles on the new version. Both are great watches overall, and I agree, they could well be the best watch at this price. Wishing everyone a merry Christmas, and a happy new year!
You are not alone, many people prefer the previous version and that's great because both are for sale simultaneously! Happy holidays to you too my friend 🎄🎉
After watching this video, I realized that I just purchased the older model in black. Though I am happy with my purchase, the newer model looks more appealing to me due to its cleaner bezel and shorter minute indices. How is the rotation of bezel in the newer model feels compared to older one as I find the old one to be more difficult to rotate? I still have 3 weeks to return it and get the newer model;). Thanks
Thanks for the video 👍 I see you measure 41mm whilst it's advertised with a 42mm case I do prefer the circular hour markers though, not so sure about the gradient color.
You are welcome Peter! Yes, I'd say rather a 41 and it doesn't wear bigger than a modern Sub case. I prefer the older style, a bit more original with the rectangular indexes 👌
Looked at the link ... however i love the sunburst red which I'm going to get (within a day or two - your link is cheaper than where I was looking so I'll probably get it there) ... unfortunately the v2 doesn't come in that colorway plus I like the indices better on the v1.
I've been this close to getting the red one6as well! They don't sell it yet on the new dial viriant but I'm sure it will come at some point. Thank you so much for thinking about using my links 👍👍
Hi I need to know your opinion about both after wairing, what of the you prefer more? Coz I just had the new version of the watch but many people like the old one.
I like the Kamasu old & new but wish it was 40mm, wish it had 20mm lugs, the crown's far too small, i dont like the crown guards, I'd lose the day/date, I'd much prefer BGW9, and the bezel is too light and extremely tinny. Other than that - perfect 😉
question: how is the metal band? I seem to be allergic (nickel) to the Seiko 5 sport band, I had to change to a NATO for that watch. Wondering if Orient is better quality?
Nice dial but should've made improvements to the crown /guards other than that i don't think its worth the extra 80+ dollars ,the value is still with the V1 Kamasu with the same issues .
I agree, but I imagine price will settle from retail down to the V1 price on grey markets/Amazon etc after a while. Usually the case with these watches
I don't know, old one looks like have little more character with his indexes. New one is similar to 20000 another divers with round ones. For me they should make crown little bigger coz it looks to small . If I have to choose than old looks more elegant and unique. Bat both nice.
I don't think they should have changed the indices. Now it looks like a different watch and is not as nice. My red dial kamasu is the best. Or should I say, the previous version is the best whether you opt for the red, teal or black. This new one doesn't do it for me.
@@Horologique yes they still sell the previous version, and it's great that they do. In isolation it is a good looking watch, but the previous one is much better in my opinion. However, many may disagree and that's cool.
The Kamasu has a sapphire crystal and the classic version had rectangular indexes instead of the round indexes of the Ray. The handset is different as well.
It's too bed they don't use a 20mm lug width. I'm not a fan of the bracelet.... It's really chunky... Like you said, it's not tapered.... And straps don't look that well proportioned at 22mm with it. It's still has gotta be the best deal spec wise on a big brand diver.
Orient should remove the ugly logo and offer a model without that ugly day date complication. Or, at the very least they should color match with the watch face. I mean, how difficult can that be? Other brands do it. Or put just the date at 6 o clock.
Rubbish. The bracelet is cheap, the clasp is trash, the bezel is below average. You only get a decent movement, and a nice design, and maybe brand recognition. A san martin watch offers for the same price an outstanding bracelet, great clasp, great ceramic bezel, and an overall better finishing and construction quality. San martin only comes short in originality and brand. I don t get how can people buy this low quality watch instead of a San Martin.
I mean for this price point it's not really bad for as you phrased it, recognizable brands. I've got San Martin Water Ghost myself and it's one of my fav watches but the brand recognition does really play a trick on your mind and I wanna make my next watch something with a better rep, like Tissot, Seiko or Orient
I like the indices on the new watch, but the color and dial on the old watch. I think i prefer the old kamasu overall, its more unique.

That can be a complaint indeed, it doesn't bother me personally but I can understand that it bothers others
I think the crown meant for asian fingers lol I have small hands even for a fat guy haha

I also prefer the indices on the original, but the bezel on the original is too busy for me.

I noticed this on their website. There is only one group of watches called the Kamasu
Orient themselves called this the new Kamasu in a release video. I just watched it again recently.
Kamasu is the ray III
This watch rocks!
For this price there is no need to reflect too long.
Thank you to have taken time for this video mon ami 👍
Thank you very much for your kind comment 👍. The Kamasu, whether this or the previous version rocks indeed 🤟
I think I prefer the older style markers. Still a very nice watch. That's one of the entry-level Japanese divers that I've never owned. Quite nice.
I agree that the other had a more original look, this is back to the Ray design language
I do like the new faded dials - however I prefer the squared hour markers rather than the circles on the new version.

Thanks for the review.
I think I preferred the 'rectangular' indices.
I am my friend and I hope you are as well 🎄🎉. I understand, the previous dial was a buy more original
Thank you so much for the comparison. And the details review. Subscribed
You are welcome, thank you for the support 👍
Wow.. This is amazing watch 😍
Great watch but still prefer the dial and indices of v1.
I could not find an Orient authorized retailer in Canada

@@Horologique literally just bought one an hour ago ... 👍
Nice looking watch. Definitely like the bracelet on the newer model.
joyeux Noël!
Cheers!
Joyeux Noël !
bracelet is same on old and new one.
bracelets are the same.
Nice. Might have to get one now :)
Excellent! Now it resembles the Orient Ray which U always thought was the prettier watch, but of course now with sapphire
Exactly!
Vraiment séduisante cette nouvelle Orient !
Merci pour le partage 👍👏⌚
De rien! Oui elle est superbe 😁

🤣
Older style for me.
Love the colour of both equally.
The original Kamasu (black/gold and blue dial) is now on sale at Jomashop for $174. You're welcome.
Thank you 😁😁
question: how is the metal band? I seem to be allergic (nickel) to the Seiko 5 sport band, I had to change to a NATO for that watch. Wondering if Orient is better quality?
The metal bracelet is the weak point of this watch. I would recommend a replacement, but so far I can only find the Miltat:

I prefer this new model, so pretty watch
A candidate for your first automatic 😁?
@@Horologique my first automatic
I find round indices more common then the olders
They went back to the Ray 2 look
I love the old kamasu red dial. doesn't look like a copy of Rolex.
Nice dial but should've made improvements to the crown /guards other than that i don't think its worth the extra 80+ dollars ,the value is still with the V1 Kamasu with the same issues .

Yes I agree, the price will settle down although $270 for this watxh6is already very good

Yes I get that, but they still sell the previous model and even the Ray5ajd Mako 2, so there's a lot of choice 👍
@@Horologique yes they still sell the previous version, and it's great that they do. In isolation it is a good looking watch, but the previous one is much better in my opinion. However, many may disagree and that's cool.
what differences between kamasu and ray 2? both looks same.
The Kamasu has a sapphire crystal and the classic version had rectangular indexes instead of the round indexes of the Ray. The handset is different as well.
loss of the second hand red tip is a shame...
You are right, I didn't even notice that one!
It is a shame that after a common complaint from everyone out there, Orient ignored the small crown issue when “re-designing” the kamasu.
I also feel ths issue but I am not sure a larger crown would look good on the watch.
Where do you buy the Mesh bracelet??
It's the mesh from the Seiko 5 suits SRPB73
Is the bezel on the original Kamasu green or black?
It's a dark green, but in the new it's black
It's too bed they don't use a 20mm lug width. I'm not a fan of the bracelet.... It's really chunky... Like you said, it's not tapered.... And straps don't look that well proportioned at 22mm with it. It's still has gotta be the best deal spec wise on a big brand diver.
is it supposed to be name "orient ray"?
I don't think so, it's sold as the Kamasu
New kamasu has way better finishing on bracelet and on watch it self as well as better craftsmanship.
How do you think it fits on a 16cm wrist? it's big?
No I think it will be fine this is a mid sized wearing watch
Pas ouf les petits changements . Avec l'ancien on arrive pas trop à savoir si c'est du vert ou noir , c'est ça qui fais sont charme lol
Orient should remove the ugly logo and offer a model without that ugly day date complication. Or, at the very least they should color match with the watch face. I mean, how difficult can that be? Other brands do it. Or put just the date at 6 o clock.
That could work 🤔
Nice dail on new one but prefer the previous version. And the previous version is much cheaper 😁
It is, the value is definitely in that one but I guess pricess will come down on the new one
Why are buying a Orient watch when your wearing a Rolex?
Because they are great watches! I also wear Casio, Seiko and homages for the same reason

Speaking for myself, San Martin watches are very well done but I do not want to buy anything that enables China's Communist regime.
San Martin is cheap Chinese trash
