If you haven't gotten a Kamasu yet, this is a great time. You can find third party bezels and several metal bracelet options made specifically for this watch. I've had a blue gen 1 for a year, and it has been flawless. I hope for gen 3 they upgrade the stock bezel and bracelet, but again, there are aftermarket options. The real bump, for me, would be increasing the energy storage to 60 or 80 hours. 40 hours realistically means you have to wear it every other day, or else go through the hassle of setting it up again - not great for someone wanting to expand and wear their watches. Tissot can do it, why not Orient, and it would be a huge differentiator from other brands.

@@Ktrb Ok but they don’t sell for that. You’re comparing them to Chinese made watches with NH35 movements that sell for nearly twice the price. Great watches, but not the same thing.
It's worth mentioning that the new Kamasu has brushed sides of the case and nice polished lines between brushing. The old Kamasu, on the other hand, has just all polished sides. I heard that the bezel of the new Kamasu is better to grip but I don't know if it's true. Orient will soon release a new color variant - dark red (such as in a limited version but with a steel case) and blue / gold (another limited edition).
They made the bezel a lot smoother, its easier to turn and its not stiff like the old Kamasu. The Grip is somewhat similar but it is a better Bezel than the Old Kamasu.
Orient just announced a third generation of Kamasus that feature a dial with arabic numbers. It comes in 4 different colours. My favourite is the one with a charcoal grey dial.
I really hope they improved/added to the number of threads on the screw-down crown. I got the Kamasu when they first came out and I think it's not even two full threads, and quite difficult to get those two threads started. Nice watch but I wear my Mako II as my daily just because I don't want to deal with that on the Kamasu. Love this dial though.
This is a confusing watch. In the Orient video it is called the "Kamasu" yet on the company website it is not shown with the Kamasu line. To add to the confusion some places label it as the "Kamasu Mako." These are beautiful, but Orient needs to be consistent and clear as to what this watch is. They would have been wiser to leave the dial design alone to continue with the success of the Kamasu and just change the colorways. Kamasu seems to actually refer to the case and notched bezel as dials can now have round or square markers. The case itself is smaller and more wearable than the Kanno.
I hear the glare is bad with the sapphire having no AR. Any comments on that? I currently have the Ray 2 and that mineral crystal scratches too easily so looking to upgrade to a sapphire but am I just swapping out scratches for a glare?
I just received the reissue of the Mako 2 from Orient USA which was only available for a few hours. The watch is beautiful and the crown is unusable. It was screwed down so tight it was impossible to move. The crown was impossible to grip. Incredible they would not fix this on a special reissue. I sent it back same day. Is the crown on this new Kamasu any better?
I called Orient USA and they told me the recent sale of the Mako 2 was new old stock, not a reissue. That explains the hard to grip crown but not screwing it down so tight along with a slippery crown made it not useable.
What color way is this? as someone who's ted and green color blind I hate seeing a watch on RUclips then trying to match it in the watch website. Cheers
the movement is the same as in my Mako II and I can testify it is rather inaccurate going + 20-30 seconds a day (which adds up to 2-3 minutes by the end of the week). the dial on this one is really beautiful though ...

Nice review, odd, the macro shots of the hour markers look cream color as described but they look poorly applied and have some stains. The hollow end link above the 12 o'clock position looks like there are gaps between the lugs (possible fitment issue). I have the Ray II and is good enough for me, I like it very much, thanks for the review!
I enjoy your reviews, but why are you calling this watch a Kamasu II? That would imply that it is a replacement for the Kamasu. That is unlikely. If you are going to make up model names, a more logical one might be Ray III. Orient (Japan) does not use these names. As far as I can tell, names were created by Orient Watch USA and they are apparently phasing out the practice. The watches that they used to call the Ray II, now have just the model number on their website.
@@lionary Yes, part of the “Kamasu Series”, not Kamasu II. Note that at 5:39 in the linked video, the narrator explains that these are just nicknames, not official Orient designations.
that's not true... definitely... first reason is that a divers don't use a watch as a primary diving instrument like a last 100 years, and a second reason is that a Casio G Shock DW5600 exists... (which is 5-6 times cheaper and 5-6 times more accurate) Like fot Orient, but dislike for an inaccurate statements
I like the Kano a lot better. The Kamasu has those funny looking indentations around the outside of the bezel like the Mako and Ray models did, and the hour hand is not a design that I like. Compared to the Kano the Kamasu is too small. I don't personally like that sunburst look of the dial but that's just me. The only positive of the Kamasu is its sapphire crystal.
In my opinion, trying to go with the flow, just when you had your own personality makes you double wrong. And as we all know, two wrongs don't make a right but three rights make a left!!! 🤪 Pity Orient, wrong turn...
Not sure what you're complaining about, isn't having more choices always better? The regular Kamasu is still there for purchase. This is just a variant of the Kamasu or the Ray. It's not a second generation of the Kamasu, as nothing was improved.
@@lionary Let me enlighten you. Both are still out there, Ray and Kamasu, plenty of them. Mixing the dials so you still have a Submarine alike in a way is wrong IMO. Even worse, i saw a vid of Orient, saying that they even tried to make lume and dial patina like a vintage watch would do. Guess which... If you're Orient and EVERYONE is praising you for the BEST branded diver around 200something whatevers, you grab the chance and go ahead, not back. Will sell for sure, but no evolution (as you said too, nothing was improved...). That's my point of view. Thanks mate, be well.
@@stavros_katsopr I hear you. I too would have liked some improvements to the Kamasu, at the very least the hollow end links--Orient didn't seem to have a problem putting solid end links on the Orient Mako USA 2. So yes the current offering is disappointing from that standpoint. As for me personally, I happened to like the look of the original Ray when it came out years ago, but never went for it mostly because of the lack of sapphire crystal. So this was my opportunity, of sorts. (I also already have a couple Kamasus..) But I can see how this would be encouraging Orient's laziness. Cheers
It's a made-in-China watch with a Japanese movement. Buy one if you want to cast a vote with your wallet to strengthen the regime there. Otherwise buy a watch made elsewhere (which might have a few China-made parts, but a couple of dollars and a couple of hundred dollars are not the same thing).

I prefer the Mako XL, but the Komatsu is very nice!
Beautiful watch.
That’s a good looking watch.
Is the crown the same size as the first kamasu?
Yes,crown,bezel,bracelet,caliber...
The plot will twist if they bring an update to the Ray2.
Nice watch, but it should have a ceramic insert,
you can get an aftermarket bezel made specifically for the Kamasu, with many insert options - ceramic and sapphire.
i prefer the older version compared to this before I saw the real thing. however when i tried both in person and comparing them side by side, I like this more and ended up picking it up
Does this watch have AR Coating ?
Why did they have to give it a 22mm lug…
How do you think it fits on a 16cm wrist? it's big?
I think you'll be fine
"The price will hopefully even out in a year or two."
Yeah, looks like inflation has nuked that possibility, given it's now at an MSRP of 570.
Submariner homage like ray 2 but with sapphire crystal
I've first Kamasu , nice watch
I still prefer the older version, can't put my finger on why that is, though.
For me its the unique markers that give it a sharper look
I prefer the older version, For me its the rectangular markers....these indicies just scream submariner homage to me....I do like the dial texture and fumé color gradients though. Hope V3 keeps the Fumé and texture but goes back to rectangular markers
@@ryanpeck3377 that v3 description would be godly
Nice review, odd, the macro shots of the hour markers look cream color as described but they look poorly applied and have some stains. The hollow end link above the 12 o'clock position looks like there are gaps between the lugs (possible fitment issue).
I have the Ray II and is good enough for me, I like it very much, thanks for the review!
Macro does show what you can't really see with your naked eye, so it appears perfect when worn
Per Epson, part of the "Kamasu series."
ruclips.net/video/laN6kamhoXo/видео.html
@@lionary Yes, part of the “Kamasu Series”, not Kamasu II. Note that at 5:39 in the linked video, the narrator explains that these are just nicknames, not official Orient designations.
@@carllange3950 agreed
Don't know why they can't taper there bracelets and make them 20 instead of 22
Great content but your white Balance of the Video is to yellowish
This should be called the Ray III not the Kamasu II.
I just order Green
Green dial or pepsi dial can't choose
Hello ,what country are you from?
Should I even get this?Is like I been hearing the crown break off easily
that's not true... definitely... first reason is that a divers don't use a watch as a primary diving instrument like a last 100 years, and a second reason is that a Casio G Shock DW5600 exists... (which is 5-6 times cheaper and 5-6 times more accurate)
Like fot Orient, but dislike for an inaccurate statements
I like the Kano a lot better. The Kamasu has those funny looking indentations around the outside of the bezel like the Mako and Ray models did, and the hour hand is not a design that I like. Compared to the Kano the Kamasu is too small. I don't personally like that sunburst look of the dial but that's just me. The only positive of the Kamasu is its sapphire crystal.
👌
(I also already have a couple Kamasus..)
But I can see how this would be encouraging Orient's laziness.
Cheers
Lovely face.
But at same price as Zelos, there is only one you should have
This is Ray not Kamasu
The Kamasu has sharp shapes on the dial.. like kamasu fish.. hence the nickname
A jbt, sad uz onog crvenog sad moram uzeti i ovaj zeleni
Such a shame about those folded end links. And that bracelet is quite cheap. Hard pass on this one. No real value from Orient on this one.
You can pick up a grey market gen 1 kamasu for $180-200 with a silicone strap. Aftermarket bracelets and bezels are available for another $80-120.
First
It's a made-in-China watch with a Japanese movement. Buy one if you want to cast a vote with your wallet to strengthen the regime there.
Otherwise buy a watch made elsewhere (which might have a few China-made parts, but a couple of dollars and a couple of hundred dollars are not the same thing).
This watch is junk. Just bought it and just returned it. Cheap as hell. The bracelet is beyond shitty. Spend little more and get a seiko mini turtle
I just purchased the grey dial version. Unfortunately i'm not drinking the same Orient KoolAid as everyone else it seems. Terrible bracelet that is rattly and too wide/not enough taper, terrible tiny crown and gritty winding feel, terrible bezel action with heaps of backplay. A San Martin/Cronos from Aliexpress is far better built with better specs for the money.
How do you think it fits on a 16cm wrist? it's big?
