  • 3 Combinations that you can work off of the jab as a southpaw.
    My fellow #southpaws I’d like to share 3 combinations or setups that you can use in your next training or sparring session. I came across questions for people looking on advice on how to set up punches against orthodox fighters as a #southpaw or how they can angle off of the orthodox fighter's attack and punches.
    0:35 - First Combination off of the Jab
    2:10 - Second Combination off of the Jab
    3:34 - Why the Second Combination is so effective
    5:23 - Third Combination off of the Jab
    9:03 - How to put these Southpaw Combinations to use
    10:54 - The Mental Aspect

    Thank you again, my fellow boxer and champion Coach Arthur Palac. These punch combinations are more tools to my arsenal. Every boxer is different. For me, since I'm an ambidextrous southpaw boxer (that fights 80% as a southpaw:) that's a switch hitter, I'm a big advocate of shadowboxing. I will shadowbox with my 16 oz. gloves primarily (sometimes with 8 oz. gloves or just wraps) for 18 three minute rounds. That sounds almost overkill; however, it helps my sparring and fight performance because I unleash punch combinations, stay defensively responsible (ala "Winky" Wright), utilize footwork, counter punching, shifting, etc. Coach Arthur, after my first 6 rounds of shadow, I would watch one of two of your very practical and effective southpaw videos, and then I would finish my remaining 12 three minute rounds- after every 6, I take a break. Each 6 rounds simulates me boxing against a different opponent. It just really helps my performance in sparring and when it comes to fight day. Thank you, champ because your fundamentals are great and your videos and tactics help me visualize my attacks and strategies. Also, congrats on your journey as a National Champion Boxer! I watched your victories against Jeff Lacy and Terrance Johnson (National Golden Gloves 2000). You have a very effective yet awkward style. You are a great outside fighter with a great jab and a right lead hook! I'm not 6'5"; however, I'm 5'10" and I won my last fight at 148 lbs. Basically, I compete as a Welterweight (147 lbs.) to no more than Super Welterweight (154 lbs.). Most of my opponents are shorter than me, so your style really helps me! Back in the day, did you ever spar or fight against Andre "SOG" Ward? I think that you would give our 2004 Olympian and Hall Of Fame boxer a lot of problems. Any ways, thanks so much. God bless you ALWAYS, Champ.

    Like the idea of throwing multiple combinations off of the same side. An orthodox fighter will most likely try to circle away from your left hand but can forget about your lead side.

    Thank you, Arthur for these effective punch combinations 🥊🔥🥇. I like all these combinations since I am a southpaw boxer. I really love the second combination and third the most. I like the second one because it has a Pacquiao 🥊 element to it. When I throw that lead right hook and step to the inside, I will fire 🥊🔥🥇 that left hand and then jab out moving to the outside. With the third combination, after unleashing my lead right hook, I can also fire a quick and short left hand or overhand as well. God bless you, Champ and thank you. 😎🔥🥇

      @@PalacBoxing there are a lot of variables to account for and it has been a long time, I'd say the Jab and Cross are both straight so if you avoid the first you have a fair chance of avoiding the second with the same movement (or block/cover) while the Jab and the Hook have different angles

    • @jerrydoss5855
      @jerrydoss5855 3 года назад +1

      Number 3 is my favorite and one i can personally vouch for, its especially effective against opponents that rely on a high guard. After taking a shot or two to the body they'll instinctively drop their elbows. That's when you plant a hook right on the temple or jaw, and if they manage to avoid or eat it you can pick them apart by switching from high to low jabs depending on their guard.
