I’ve been a fan of Blundstone boots for around 30 years and I can honestly say the moving out of Tasmania hasn’t affected the quality at all. If anything as an Aussie I think the quality has improved. Sad to see the jobs go but hey the socks jeans pullover underpants I’m wearing are all made in China. And no one gets het up about that. These are my go to boots and I love them. Cheers from OZ.
I swear this video popped up at the best time. I’m thinking about getting a pair of blundstones and was questioning whether they were worth the price tag, but this video has answered my question
Jacy Butler I have had and worn the same pair for 6 years now. These boots are amazing!! Edit: keep them well treated with mink oil and you will have them just as long as I have had mine!
The dialogue around blundstones is kind of wild. They’ve been ubiquitous work shoes in Australia for a very long time (I think they’re the original elastic Chelsea workboot) although mainly for work. Now they’re cool in Canada and there’s all these ideas about them being indestructible. In Australia there are a bunch of alternatives, and most people say that since they moved all there manufacturing overseas they are of noticeably worse quality than they were, and that Rossi’s or Redbacks are a better option. I guess it’s kind of a doc martens situation, but as an Australian seeing them featuring by Canadian youtubers is a weird feeling...
Yeah they’re popular in Canada as light work boots but if you need a real work boot there are better options for durability and protection. However I’ve seen some steel toed Blundstones that last a really long time for the price and they really light and convenient. 99% of them are for fashion here though. They look nice. Also they’re excellent for everyday outdoor boots. In Canada they were first popular with the more rural outdoor crowd.
Agreed. It's weird being an American who's worn them since before they were trendy. I felt the same when I visited family in France in 08 and literally everyone was wearing Chuck Tailors like they were just invented and thought they were ground breaking.
I’m Canadian and my family has worn blunnies for ages but yeah they’re practically a fashion/light work boot here. I don’t hike but I walk a lot and am on my feet for 8 hour retail shifts so they’re perfect for me. I treat them every 3-6 months and they last very well for me. I have 3 pairs :)
After trying to break in a pair of DM’s for months, I gave up and bought Blundstone 550 rustic brown. They arrived today and I went for an hour walk and kept them on all day. They are incredibly comfortable and no breaking in or blisters!! Selling the DM’s. Blundstones are amazing! Love them! I am a UK size 3 and they fit perfectly:)
Been wearing the steel toe version for 20 years and are the most comfortable work boots .my dressier ones died this year after the sole fell off .think the ice an salt killed them I think although they were a few years old .i found them to be real good whilst walking on Ice an actually really quite warm .much better than my timberlands although I love them too
I had a few of them over the years when they were still made in australia. they are ok, especially if your feet are kind of normal size without extra meat. they just advise you to buy half size up if you have relatively wide feet. One of the mysteries of the Blundstones is somehow the soles just go tofu or something. it doesn't happen all the time but i have my share of experience of the sole disintegrate on me. When blundstones no longer MIA, I gave up on them.
The boots you have are the 585, you can treat them with a product called nikwax sude and nubuck it will not change the leather at all(darken for a bit). nikwax will last about 3 months.blundstone also has a reno cream (basically a clear polish that puts moisture back in to the leather with out changing it.. It does have a basic water resistant coating on all of them. The elastic is not waterproof and no way to make them that way. The only one that is waterproof is 584 which is the winter boot. I work for a shoe store and our main product is blundstone.
I bought the rustic conditioner from Blundstone. It did not change the appearance. It’s specific for the rustic finish. I use regular conditioner on my black ones.
I work in my blundstones on the ocean, in an engine room, on a boat, in Alaska. When buying clothes for conditions that are above the norm and hard considerations are paramount. I’ve been buying blundstones for my work boot on the boat. They are the hardest wearing most comfortable boots that live up to the harshes whether it’s an average sunny day to raining to icy conditions I can honestly say these are the best boots for the job. I step in grease/oil walk in rain puddles and step on icy decks with them and they keep me confident and comfortable. I have never had wet feet stepping in water but obviously I’m not submerging my feet in water either for weather protection they do their job and do it well. I do replace my blind stones when they get worn down because over time especially the abuse mine go thru you need to. I have 7 pairs 5 at home and two on the boat with me. I’ve had a pair on the boat now that I will be replacing but I will still be using them until they’ve run their course which will be not to long from now and I’m having a pair shipped to Alaska to stand by as replacements for my current pair. These boots are awesome and you should own a pair. My favorite blundstones are the all terrains and the are the most stylish and last the longest compared to the 550 rustic brown/ yellow soles which are my second favorite bluestone config. I’ve had that pair for 2 years before they ran their course and I upgraded to the new iteration of the vibram/ blundstone config which in my opinion last the longest.
I freaking LOVE my Blunnies. I live in the Midwest and wear them 365 (unless I'm in my Chacos). I've had them for 3 years and like he said wax them every 6 months? They're very water resistant (mostly waterproof). I really wax them for snow melt to keep the salt from soaking into the leather. They're 100% worth the money and honestly are an incredible deal for what you get. P.S. I have the model 585 that's mentioned in this video. Thanks for the great review.
The best product to use on Blundstones is mink oil. Wax creates a seal but then nothing can absorb into them. Mink oil will condition & protect the leather
Blundstone are great for farming. I swear by them. They are from Australia but they are not made here anymore. The other brand that I reckon is ok is Rossi

10-15 years ago these were a good product. The first pair lasted ~5years of hard use. Solidly made with thick leather. The sole and heel eventually wore down but appeared to be dense material all the way through. The second pair I bought were like a totally different product. The first thing I noticed was they were much lighter in weight. The leather seemed thinner too. Within 2 years the heels had worn through and were foam filled-obviously unrepairable. Never bought a pair since. I think this company leans heavily on their name and prior reputation. There are much better alternatives IMHO.
Bought a pair for $75 last spring for my job as a professional gardener. The toes wore through quickly, but that is to be expected with any leather boot that's subjected to the kind of abuse the toes get while on your knees pulling weeds, etc. These are very comfortable boots and they are well made. I applied an epoxy boot guard to the worn toes and see no reason why I won't be able to wear these for at least another season. Will buy again...
There are several brands of Aussie boots. I own two pair Redbacks, and a pair of Mongrel. The Mongrel are my latest. Shipped from OZ. All them. Five years on no worries. There are tons of products to keep them water resistant. I use saddle soap for cleaning. I use Huberds “Shoe Grease” for weather. I live in Boston.
Redbacks, Mongrel and Rossi's are still made in Australia. Mongrel and Redback in Sydney, Rossi in Adelaide. Blundstones are made in China and are more expensive. I dont get the hype surrounding Blundstones. The Aussie made options are cheaper and better.
I bought my Blundstones to work. Crazy comfortable right out of the box. Wore them for three days. Sneakers felt weird. I’m interested in finding out how many years it will take to break the sole
For anyone still on the edge about Blundstone, I'd recommend having a look at both Redback and Rossi. Very similar boots and are both Autralian made. Redback has a more utilitarian look to them while Rossi can be considered the more fashionable of the two. EDIT: Forgot to say, both are tough as nails and from my experience Redback has generally been harder wearing than Blundstones so if you abuse your boots a lot they can be a good option.
@@migo-migo9503 Easily Redback. but that's mostly cause I don't like how Blundstones fit my feet personally and Rossi's have caused a bit of chafing at times. Everyone's feet are different though so Rossi's or Blundstones may fit you way better than Redbacks. All 3 are pretty similar widths, but I found that Redbacks stretched the most. Don't worry though about width issues for any of them, all 3 are/were work boot models so they're not that tight of a fit. I've worn my Redbacks at home, out getting food, into the city etc... cause they're just comfy and I don't have to worry about them getting damaged or anything. My only advice if you end up getting them is to replace the insoles, however I've heard recently that they've started shipping them with new updated ones which are waaaaaaaaay better so make sure they have the raised patch at the heel before you throw them away.
@@waxa3869 thanks for your input.Much appreciated! Ive heard way more people going with redbacks for comfort, so I’m starting to lean in that direction. 👍
I didn't know you can get fancy blunnies. As Aussies our kids live in them. Summer and winter they are the best boots hands down. The kids grown out of them - they don't fall apart and you can pass them down.
Ive had mine for 4 years and the sole from my left boot started to lift. Blundstone is sending me new boots through warranty😊 the leather went before the sole. The leather is not under warranty.
Ive done it! Ive commented on your first video! Take that! Feeling scared? Feeling InTiMiDaTeD?!?! Idk where im going with this, i just randomly felt like going back to your first video and doing this so uhhhhh take that!
You should try Redback boots , ive got the blundstone 585 and the Redback bonsall. The blundstone are very comfortable but nothing compared to the redbacks. Blundstones look much more stylish tho
I took mine through about 6 inches of water and some water seeped in. Gotta be careful not to go too deep. If you're not actively stepping in a river or stream they are great
@@belleprincess250 Either way, it's still outsourcing to cheap labor where you could buy the same style, still made by Australians, but with a different company.
Guessing your Blunnies are still going strong now! I have worn them since the 90s and love them. They last for years!!! I currently own every colour and wear a pair every day from late summer to spring. And vegan models are coming!
I was a bit on the fence about getting Blundstones because I already have 2 pairs of Chelseas but given that these are well treated, fantastic winter boots (like 584) with sheepskins, I'm so ready to get them.
Great video, subbed. I love the boots, but just cannot be asked to pay the full price for them. Would you recommend picking up a pair 2nd hand? The only thing I'd be concerned about is how it was worn prior and could somehow mess my feet up?
The argument of Goodyear welt sole replacement holds true for expensive boots, but in my experience, where Im at, replacing a boot sole is around 100-120$, and It doesnt make sense to pay that for a boot that costs 180$, just get a new pair. I mean I get it for expensive ones, but for cheap just dont worry about it that much
Been living in Vancouver almost 20 years, got tired of my feet getting soaked in regular shoes so I gave in and bought a pair a couple hours ago for a painful $250. Only bought them 'cause I heard they're fairly water resistant. At the store they said there are fully _waterproof_ ones but to me they looked a bit overly thick like regular work boots, the waterproof ones have tabs with blue writing. Any steel toed work boots I've had can be pretty heavy and clunky, these are super light and slip right on with ease. Time will tell though if they were worth the money...
@@JB-1138 I actually ended up taking them back as few times. Turns out my left foot is significantly smaller and thinner than my right foot which I've gone my entire life without realizing, lol. I ended up getting the fully waterproof ones because they have a thicker lining and have 'thinsulate' too, then I went to Ontario and they held up great in the -30 or -40 winter. I've spent about a week with them in the rain before leaving and they kept my feet dry as a bone. Even back in Ontario they kept my feet warm. They're worth the money so far.
@@JB-1138 Tbh if you need an easy waterproof boot Blundstones aren’t the best. But if you clean regularly and apply a good waterproof spray they are good. But still if you are out in pouring rain for a long time or you step in a puddle no leather boot will be that waterproof.
The sole on Blunnies aren't a problem. My grandfather had used them for work as a linesman for years and he rarely had to buy new ones. I personally use the 510 model for retail work and they are holding up a dream. That being said, I find that my feet start getting sore after a few hours working.
ive had a pair going on 3 years now. The quality is still there, people just dont take care of their boots. I use leather oil regularly in winter. Tip: Don't wear leather shoes everyday. Your feet sweat and the salt from the sweat can break down leather from the inside of the boots. Alternate every other day with another pair of boots.
Brooke S there was a problem with the soles in 2007 & 2008 called hydrolysis. It was caused by the boots being improperly stored - the issue was fixed many years ago.
Got my first pair in 1989. Steel cap version. Lasted forever. Now, not so much. To my Canadian friends, find some RedBacks. Australian made and if you think Blunnies are comfortable? Just wait to you try RedBacks.
All I want to know is, as an American who's used to US sizing, is if I should buy a size down from what I usually wear. Generally I wear a 9, but I bought a pair of Clarks in 8's and they fit perfectly. Just wondering if the same concept applies to Blundstones? I love the look and I've been wanting a pair for a while.
The company has incredible customer service. I had those exact boots for 2 years! Unfortunately the elastic has unraveled so I contacted the company and they’re replacing them, I consistently treat the leather and it remained in incredible shape. My favourite most comfortable boot or shoe I’ve ever worn. Well worth the investment.
I wear a size US 11 in most sneakers (nike, Reebok), for my dress models of blunnies i sized down to 10. Should I get 10 in 550s / 500s as well or stick to my normal size 11? Thanks
Hey! This was awesome! You speak really well and had a lot of great info! Haha the puddle was the perfect depth for you to test out the water repellency - seems they do a really good job. I agree btw that its annoying that the uppers are (suppsedly) meant to last forever but the soles prob won't last more than a few years. Seems like it would make more sense to increase the sole quality or at least offer some sort of exchange policy where you can trade in your old boots for a percentage off a new pair! -Subscriber #2
The Mensch on Menswear Hell yeah subscriber number 2! And yeah I feel like it’s such a weird concept to use nice leather on something that won’t last an incredibly long time. Seems a bit counter productive (unless the leather isn’t as nice as we think)
WoolAndLanolin totally and that’s why I think i rather buy a pair of factory seconds red wings for around the same price. Do you have any red wings? Also good to know i actually bought my blundstones on Sierra.com for $80 because they’re also factory seconds. They go in and out of stock quickly but once every few months they get a new shipment so keep your eyes peeled if u wanna get the dark brown pair!
The Mensch on Menswear good to know about those factory seconds actually! And no red wings but after seeing that iron rangers vid I really really want a pair now! Currently I have a pair of 1000 mile Wolverines that I’m rocking
daniel dee I just bought them today, kind of, I’m usually a size 6.5 and bought a 7 cuz the 6.5 was too big, the .5 makes a difference. I live in Canada so I have to wear thick socks and maybe an insole, usually helps
I JUST bought my second pair. I wore my first pair for ten years. It was after ten years that the edge of the heels started to peel away. I love them. I wore mine all winter long and never really treated them.
To many people have them. I like my thrusday and wolverine boots . I also have good Gortex hiking boots . I have a really good pair of high rubber boots in the car . Oh did I forget that I have a black pair of Timberlands . Lol
I got the same pair (in women's) and they are painful! I've worn them about a day and half in total, and I was almost at the point of blisters on the very bottom of my heel. I'm not sure if I got the wrong size. They feel snug (not too tight; I still have toe room) when I wear them with thick socks, but they feel quite roomy with normal/thin socks so I didn't want to size up. With thick socks, my heels rub against the back of the shoe and hurt. With thin socks, my heels don't rub much but instead the back of the shoe digs into the back of my calf and chafes it. I've read a few people complaining of initial discomfort that later resolved I'm still pretty nervous, especially after this guy said he had no break in period! Has anyone else had a similar experience and if so, did they eventually break in?
the problem with Blundstones is if they don t fit well from the beginning then you gonna have hard time to break them in and feel comfortable, you can only have them machine stretched and still wont be 100% after that, you should try Redbacks, they fit better and are way more comfortable and durable
@@fan-ew4zi Thanks for the reply/suggestion.Thankfully, they have pretty much broken in! I had to wear moleskin padding on my heels for almost 2 weeks but they have now softened to the point of no longer causing pain. Still interesting to me that some people don't experience a break in period. Tough feet I guess
Not sure why but I really prefer the look of Chelsea's that are more round toed with obvious work boot heritage like the red backs and blundstone. I just don't like dressy Chelseas
idk why women are a sucker for them boots even my gf loves wearing them, but for me i would go for the Thirsday Boots "Tobacco Presidents" its the same colour but it has more rugged slim profile look than bludstone.

Professional gardener?
You need a bump cap, get some steel blues
100% agree with you James,I have owned Redback and Mongrel shoes/boots and their leather and durability are unrivalled. Much better than Bluntstones!!
10 years with my last Blundstones...going everywhere, even fireplace.....Now got the new ones.
They are beasts!
I bought my Blundstones to work. Crazy comfortable right out of the box. Wore them for three days. Sneakers felt weird. I’m interested in finding out how many years it will take to break the sole
Rossi boots my friend ,, Rossi boots you should try
+1 on not having to slace. Yeah, can’t replace the lowers... I have wolverine 1000 miles but the convenience of these for $200..love them.
There’s a video on RUclips of somebody getting the bottom replaced. They said it’s expensive but you can get the bottom replaced.
The elastics in these ones are technically not waterproof, but if you get the winterized ones, they are fully waterproof! :)
Which one is the most comfortable one in your opinion?
I'm from Tasmania, Australia....home of the Blundstone!!
Legendary!
Imagine him saying all this on a first date
I also like the redback boots. Aussie made and a bit more rugged. The soles seem to wear longer as well. Same look but a little more "work" oriented.
Jason Baker i heard about those and definitely will check them out
Redbacks are much better than Blundstones!
I reckon Blundstone are better. I tried Redbank and Blundstone lasted longer as I am a farmer
I have tried both. Redbacks do seem like better quality but they are nowhere near as comfortable (for me) as the blundstones.
Interesting! I’m considering reviewing them soon
What happened to the leather
Ive done it! Ive commented on your first video! Take that! Feeling scared? Feeling InTiMiDaTeD?!?!
Idk where im going with this, i just randomly felt like going back to your first video and doing this so uhhhhh take that!
Imo red back boots is more comfortable, cheaper and actually made in Australia instead of China.
They don’t last as long as Blundstone boots though
Too bad I can't find them anywhere in the US.
If you're not actively stepping in a river or stream they are great
I have the samme but in Winter serie, the best ever
Take a look at Redback and Rossi boots. Actually made in Australia (unlike Blundstones which are made in Asia now), and cheaper much of the time.
StreetDogSteve on it, thanks for the suggestion!
Most Blundstones are now made in Mexico
I have 550 Walnut. The soles are toast but the rest of the boot is like new, even inside. Resole them if you can.
Getting these for Christmas! I’m so excited!!
Blundstones' heritage series have Goodyear welt construction.
The argument of Goodyear welt sole replacement holds true for expensive boots, but in my experience, where Im at, replacing a boot sole is around 100-120$, and It doesnt make sense to pay that for a boot that costs 180$, just get a new pair. I mean I get it for expensive ones, but for cheap just dont worry about it that much
Hi, I am going on a 4 day hike and I am wondering if I can use my blundstone for them, what do you think?
Hmm I’d recommend something with more ankle support if it’s anything other than a calm flat walk!
What brand are your jeans?😊
Been living in Vancouver almost 20 years, got tired of my feet getting soaked in regular shoes so I gave in and bought a pair a couple hours ago for a painful $250. Only bought them 'cause I heard they're fairly water resistant. At the store they said there are fully _waterproof_ ones but to me they looked a bit overly thick like regular work boots, the waterproof ones have tabs with blue writing. Any steel toed work boots I've had can be pretty heavy and clunky, these are super light and slip right on with ease. Time will tell though if they were worth the money...
They are for me so far!
How are the boots holding up in the Vancouver rain?
But still if you are out in pouring rain for a long time or you step in a puddle no leather boot will be that waterproof.
update?
The sole on Blunnies aren't a problem. My grandfather had used them for work as a linesman for years and he rarely had to buy new ones. I personally use the 510 model for retail work and they are holding up a dream. That being said, I find that my feet start getting sore after a few hours working.
I heard the quality isn’t as good since now they arnt made in Australia anymore
Had mine for about a year now and live in them the quality is still good they keep a close eye on that. 👍😉
ive had a pair going on 3 years now. The quality is still there, people just dont take care of their boots. I use leather oil regularly in winter.
Tip: Don't wear leather shoes everyday. Your feet sweat and the salt from the sweat can break down leather from the inside of the boots. Alternate every other day with another pair of boots.
Kirk Moran it’s the soles that have been said to be lower quality
Brooke S there was a problem with the soles in 2007 & 2008 called hydrolysis. It was caused by the boots being improperly stored - the issue was fixed many years ago.
0:54 1306 for the dress style. Mine arrived today. Really digging them.
They are so cool!
If you go to the blundstone website you can choose your American size. I wear 13US so 12UK fits perfectly
Size down!
I also wear a 9 generally but sized down for these (non-dress)
is it 585? what do u think about 562 crazy horse color?..
here in israel its working boots
The company has incredible customer service. I had those exact boots for 2 years! Unfortunately the elastic has unraveled so I contacted the company and they’re replacing them, I consistently treat the leather and it remained in incredible shape. My favourite most comfortable boot or shoe I’ve ever worn. Well worth the investment.
110% worth the hype I’ve had move for years
Nice video I have the Dr Martens 2976 the water repellency is great to
JOKA LOUREIRO i love docs!
JOKA LOUREIRO - I don’t like Dr Martens - very different feel . I don’t think they can be compared :(
I wear a size US 11 in most sneakers (nike, Reebok), for my dress models of blunnies i sized down to 10. Should I get 10 in 550s / 500s as well or stick to my normal size 11? Thanks
Dont the elastic portion gets bad?
If you don't mind me asking, what's your size in the Wolverine 1000 Mile, and what is your size in Blundstones?
8 on both!
8 US both? or wolverine 8 US and blundstones 8 US which would be an Australian 7?
Did they also sell boots for men?
I'm hesitating between those and a pair of Canada West, which are the same look, but goodyear welted... Anyone ever tried them on?
WoolAndLanolin I’ve been eyeing the wolverine 1000 miles for some time - just waiting for the right price!
my dad had these where the leather eroded both shoes and had to get a new pair once part of it fell off
According to the website 550's are Classic Walnut. These are it looks like these are 585's.
You’re right!
How is the sizing? True to size?
daniel dee I just bought them today, kind of, I’m usually a size 6.5 and bought a 7 cuz the 6.5 was too big, the .5 makes a difference. I live in Canada so I have to wear thick socks and maybe an insole, usually helps
@@annemarieafanasev114 So the 6.5 was bigger than the 7?
I’m a size 9 and had to buy a 10. The half sizes only make the boot wider. Not longer
R.M Williams reigns supreme
i want to know if they tru size or they run big??
They are very popular in Israel with the young and seen everywhere there.
Great video, thank you for the knowledge!
Why does this guy not even have 1000 subs
I agree this is a good vid
I JUST bought my second pair. I wore my first pair for ten years. It was after ten years that the edge of the heels started to peel away. I love them. I wore mine all winter long and never really treated them.
To many people have them. I like my thrusday and wolverine boots . I also have good Gortex hiking boots . I have a really good pair of high rubber boots in the car . Oh did I forget that I have a black pair of Timberlands . Lol
Bahahaha they are pretty mainstream!
would you recommend these boots at winter for places like New York? thanks
Are sizes the same between blundstone and Stan Smith?
Yes!
whats the song in the intrO?
Has anyone else had a similar experience and if so, did they eventually break in?
the problem with Blundstones is if they don t fit well from the beginning then you gonna have hard time to break them in and feel comfortable, you can only have them machine stretched and still wont be 100% after that,
you should try Redbacks, they fit better and are way more comfortable and durable
I’m a size nine and a half should I size down to nine or get them in my true to size
I’d go 9! But see if you can try them on!
@@TheIronSnail I wear nine in work boots, cowboy boots and boots like doc martens so I reckon nine because i can’t find them any where to try em on ty
Thaaaaank you very much for this review, it has been very helpful! Definitely gonna buy them after seeing how durable they are :)
Aina Parejo Marí i think that’s a great decision!
Aren't they on a loose side because they don't have laces ??
Come to Canada, you think you’ve seen everyone wear them there? Wait till you come here. Either Alberta or BC is where 1 out of 4 people are wearing or own one👍🏼
I never heard of them when I lived in Alberta, then it BC everyone had them
GOD DAMN IT!!!!! Where have you been all my life? We are into pretty much the thing style! That Filson wool jacket, these boots, and those jeans. Gosh. I subbed and you better upload more stuff! LOL.
I have had a pair of 500’s for 22 years and the sole will not wear out - trust me - if anything the elastic may need to be repaired. I love your video but you are overthinking it! Buy them they are Aussie legends.
No. Me and my daughter had wear in snow and when we got home our socks were wet .
The boots come with a pack of Nikwax that you can put on the boots to make them waterproof
I find them very comfortable on flat surfaces but on any kind of incline they’re not comfortable because of the lack of ankle support... 😕
the downside of blundstone is that there is zero arch support. The winter version is waterproof
Looks like I'll avoid those then
How much
What was your jeans on this vid? 😀
Just some regular ol Levi 501’s!!
Nice test!
Ty!
My four year old Blundstones remain completely waterproof. A wipe of dubbin ever few weeks keeps them looking good
Just watched a site that resoled theirs
