- In this video I demonstrate how I capture my calves in the Alley to weigh them individually with my home-made Drop-gate and Sliding Alley Gate. I bought the scale from A&A scales on Amazon, built a frame for it, and set concrete paver-stones under the feet to keep it flat and stable. This is my second time using it, and I'm pretty happy with the results.
A&A scale: amzn.to/3yvai0g
The first group of four calves were grazed off property for the past two weeks, and the second four calves were grazed on-farm.
@5:46 (second group) I realized the scale was still turned off...

Very nice 👍
Nice! Is the scale platform just a wide wooden board / or Decking boards?
It's 2x6's I believe. They do flex quite a bit.
Like it
Would love to know how you built
That drop gate and the sliding gate
Maybe I'll do a video on those soon!
Oh snd one more thing. I have that same scaje. If you turn it on after they are in it. Wgeh theybsteo off it reverses abs shows the weight in negatives.
I like that!
Do you have a video of building the platform and mounting the scale ?
Not yet, but I could give an overview of how I did it.
How well would that “check valve “ work on 1200 lb cow/bull?
Biggest I've run through was about 1050, but I don't see any reason it wouldn't handle more as long as the alley you strap it to can take it.
@@7fatcowsfarm378 I agree. I like it!
It’s a cow check valve!
I like that name! I'll have to start using that!
If your trying to get a cow to move in a karyiviket direction. Walk that. Directoon. Thrn turn snd walk away frok the intended direction to give the cow a sense of you not pressuring them. Nine times out of ten they will go the way you wanted
