I've tried to build it so many times. It seems that my ornithopter's wing can not fight aerodynamic resistance. Anyway, the frequency of flapping wings is not high as flying and not long time. Could you tell me how to fix it.
There could be some cause of friction such as the wire is not straight or some glue got in, or the metal tube is not smooth across the end. Otherwise the crank can be too large, so the rubber band wouldn't have enough leverage to flap the wings.
I've seen enough of these videos now to where I've felt that could comfortably build my own ornithopter. And I've done just that. However, whenever I try to wind the crank up, the wings just won't flap no matter how much I wind it up. Also, I've found that it's sooo difficult to keep the wire hook in place that's supposed to connect the rubber band to the other end. The more that I wind up the crank, the more that the rubber band will be begin to pull it off from its secure place. What is it that I'm doing wrong?
I realize this may be difficult, especially with the decline in hobby stores that has happened. One online vendor is sigmfg.com, they sell most of the materials, but it looks like they ship outside USA.
Sorry to hear that. Try the Freebird design instead. It's quite a different (and more traditional) approach so maybe you will have more success with that. www.ornithopter.org/archive/freebird.pdf
The glue is Elmers Glue All and the drill is something like this one: www.ebay.com/itm/223083370530?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item33f0ce1822:g:b2gAAOSweQBZnXui&amdata=enc%3AAQAFAAACgBaobrjLl8XobRIiIML1V4Imu%252Fn%252BzU5L90Z278x5ickkgCVySCgrNFPU8Iu85TabMCHZF%252FLe3%252BWJo5Rk3vvM7j1MzkNMYHDXTiFkL3xOytGYoizHElYehjy7A%252FXITmOQ0lQE02UUJAaXivWNbVFQemkUQR1wwF%252Fa1159wIZ0WVHZKtclm7ffVxRm5LVYMjC0gMzEIL0HgbETrEGMmaq8S2d318nyM48HKxLrO3cUDJqgB7g6Rffrf9gagSrwHCI7fNMnAKhYdf5eJEeL0l%252BTKEjVO5zgJFGblofeIegau3iEySG0AGuahuqMZeibAr49wTDtx8MS6oO4eS3yVbe%252FFcmLTvRldAfWqJCmj%252FXmM2DlzUmmUCh5%252F3hTpFc6QuWhrNoJc2ArE5J8qH18NiiFjLvYdM1AUmfMoqBptn8KV8VlCuFf56w%252BNbI6kDHdM3ww5aBlYUrXueAGa68WBCmIerMwkw1SIcuf5HcTww7t6P0fpUAow86Ci3ssqh%252BUlwW2vTrDkvdUPKy0cOqfPzpIZn2MPJL0lTpzHzHpPSi0lyrjjTVcKSQsxgEmtuIaxuJT7SJSgNy8FdNQyYVlzYPPujniyVtMxfPKkaBiWlLU1OOElplL2ajxxFHEMVD%252F3leWIEzgbL4EOiiV54dR9Ju0Vvb1K36745xr5cos6mcHzORKaZdOIjo7dFjaCPWnvMOagCCEL1Jmp5LCo8BfA9Stoopso8ieZROlcg%252FWxxWXtoFiTSDNqfkSFOiuRlae1dnn08KbZkdxTDmzKtzlint2EM%252Fs%252BIgIO5Uu2kNHXRMWYSnULRx7pBv5af95Cf2xuJQ7u%252BxOtpXBc4Q3299EJ0nYYXQ%253D%7Ccksum%3A223083370530d90a9a0b26914eeebc2fdd0a703757c3%7Campid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2334524
Very impressive. I was looking for a simpler design for a middle school class project. We're gonna try it!
Jajajaja no me canso de verlo. Cuanto ingenio y sencillez 👏👏👏
really grateful you are explaining the progress
Love it was thinking you could do it a lil simpler and it’s all ready done

Es superinteresante tu proyecto.
Te felicito.
Tengo la idea de replicarlo a escala superior, con materiales más aligerados.
So woderfull idea to inspiration from fly mussle types and also this make simple mechanism. Perfect🙌🙌👏👏
Is there any way to get a full part list, step by step instructions, and blue-prints on the website.
From philippines done SUBSCRIBE 😊
Very different design nice.
Every time facing one problem.hard to find that T.A.N super sport rubber band in our country 😅
..Wow...A whole different wing mechanism with a single connecting rod...Fantastic! 👌🏼
..What could be the closest substitute for balsa? 🤔
light weight bamboo peaces

I would suggest a stiffer wire
Excellent working
Selain kayu balsa bisa gak gan?
Now it make sense how a Japanese guy make a small butterfly ornithopter. He use flex :)
Great tutorial many thanks
Để bảo quản cánh sử dụng bền hơn nên làm tay quay rời từ phía sau đuôi máy bay sẽ thuận tiện hơn và khởi động nhanh hơn.
Very nice explan
Innovative thinking....Great job!!
Nice work bro
Hey please tell which glue you used .......
PDF please
Ang galing 👋👋👋
LINDISSIMO PARABÉNS
Good video. Does the card stock "hinge" weaken and break? It seems the constant bending back and forth of any paper won't last very long.
It does wear out. Usually it peels off from the wood and you can glue it back on.
Wao this amazing,i will try make one
Good to see
Love it this video....
Gracias , por su tiempo me encantó
Btw can you please tell what paper or fabric what ever is it which u used to make wings of ornithopter
I use tissue paper. There are special tissue papers for model airplanes and you can also use gift wrapping tissue paper.
Sir I live in India and I want an ornithopter but I am unable to make it.So please suggest me a website so that I can buy it from there.🙏
Sorry, I don't know of any store, but you can use the free plans at ornithopter.org.
Awesome..😁😁😁😁😁
Can I use Japanese paper, Instead?
Yes. People often use "Japanese" tissue for model airplanes, and it is lighter than what I used.
And please give a link for the drill you used.......... please 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Nice ♥️🙂
Dapat beli dimana karet nya bos ku
Use an Earring Stud Post (eBay) for pin joining connecting rod !
So suit

Wow rusty flyer i was subscribe you
I am happy
I am also making ornithopter
Sweetheart and very
The problem is not building it it’s finding the material

I have make a lot of ornithopter, but it is not fly, i don't know why. Can i have your email ?
I have my contact info at ornithopter.org
