Thank you for this comprehensive walkthrough video. I just added an extra 8 GB of RAM and your video was so detailed that it allowed me to look out for some easy overlooks. I inadvertently disconnected my network card from the motherboard and it was a pain to reconnect the antenna connections but I got it done. Also, the connection to the display monitor was kind of tricky in order for the screen to function. Lastly, those three ribbon connections for the keyboard doesn't allow for much space to work with so patience is key. I know I'll be opening up the computer again to upgrade to an SSD drive (currently it has an SAS) but in my case, it will not call for me to remove the motherboard so it won't be as involved next time around. Thanks again!
You have to get a couple of parts: Search on Amazon for: SATA Hard Drive Disk Connector Cable Replacement for HP Pavilion X360 14M You will also need the HDD rubber sleeve, HP part # 924283-001 This video will help for the install: ruclips.net/video/0iR4wUmTjQI/видео.html
Thank you for uploading this video, This helped me a lot when I upgraded my RAM, just want to add, when removing the main board make sure that there is no micro sd inserted in its slot.
Thank you for this very helpful video. It enabled me to feel confident enough to upgrade the ram on my 15" HP Pavilion laptop. It also showed where the problem was when my WiFi no longer worked after reassembly (The Wifi card had come adrift from the MB), so all in all an excellent video.
You should really learn how ZIF connectors work. 99% of the time the ribbons are tabbed. You need to lift the ribbon about 90 degrees and the tabs will lift out and disconnect. You should never have to pull on them, and where you were having problems at the 11:00 mark, was because you were doing it wrong. Your method can ruin the tabs, which is what seats them perfectly in place. The cover then locks them down.
At 9:58 in the video, you can see that there is a SATA slot that is currently unused in this model, which is the same model I own. I'm curious if it's possible to install a 2.5" SSD in the empty disk bay and connect it to the unused SATA slot using the purple SATA cable that you began to disconnect at 10:46. Interestingly, this purple SATA cable appears to have the same serial number as the one mentioned in the manual for adding a second disk. The only issue I've encountered is that the cable that came with the laptop lacks the SATA connector required to connect it to the SSD, as it only has the part that connects it to the motherboard. I know that there are easier ways to do this, but I already have an SSD and I wanted to upgrade my 14m-b and I can't afford a new M.2. or an official sata cable for this specific laptop model thanks for your time! amazing video
That m.2 slot got me so confused. Mine is the same laptop except when I flipped it, it doesn't have a pre-installed ssd on that m.2. What makes it worse is it has a label on the board that say "msata 1". So does an m.2 nvme will actually work or is there a different kind that I should buy?
Thanks for the detailed review, it helped a lot. Especially the moment with the WiFi card🤦🤣 The first time I disassembled the laptop itself, I spent 2a hours in total. I added 8gb of ram and changed the thermal paste. If they wrapped the board on the other side, as in some models, it would be much easier))) but maybe it’s better, given that sometimes the keyboard gets a load from the hands)))
Wife has this laptop. Just got upgrading it. I hope whoever at HP put this design together always steps in water when wearing socks. B/c this was a massive pain to pull apart and work on. They went all-in on this "form over function" sleek look by not providing easy-access panels on the bottom. Having to remove the entire mobo to upgrade/replace key components is awful. Surprised they didn't just go the extra mile and glue everything together to really underline the fact they consider these laptops disposables, and would prefer someone popping $ to just buy a new one. Hardware has been "good enough" for the past 5-10 years in PC / laptop world, so PC/laptop manufacturers have to find annoying ways to force more purchases, like making it a super PITA to work on them. Currently I'm trying to find a way to get a 2.5" drive into that empty bay, and all the folks answering on the HP forums keep saying 'get the hard drive kit' but don't provide part number. They go "look in the manual!" and the manual lists the part number for a rubber sleeve, but not the hard drive bay kit or the connector cable. It's like pulling teeth. Plus, I ended up on HP's parts site try to find the parts, and ran across the prices for 8gb ram, new SSD M2, etc.. and they are OUTRAGEOUS. They want $80 for a 8gb stick of ram, $250 for the small M2 SSD that came with it. That's crazy. Either HP is into highway robbery, or they're trying to price things i a way to push folks to give up and buy a new laptop. Not sure I'd buy an HP laptop again b/c of all this. Which is ironic, b/c I just bought an HP EliteDesk G2 mini pc, and I love the thing.
That's an incredible tutorial. Very easy to follow up. One question. How can I add a sata ssd if there's those little black block ( you show it at 10:00) in the place where it is supposed to go? It goes above it ? I was afraid of force it out. And can I connect it with any flat cable or just for hp pavilion x360 ? do you recommend any please ?
I have the same laptop that I keep on my nightstand, and it fell off the other day when I was dusting and must of hit the edge where the power button is. The button will no longer push to turn on. Do you think you could help me?
Is there a specific designation of M.2 SSD to buy? I bought one and it's not working. M.2 SSD we got: Crucial P5 Plus 1TB PCIe 4.0 3D NAND NVMe M.2 our pc: HP Pavilion x360 14m-ba011dx But we could also be improperly cloning.
Hello Sir, great presentation that worked nice, thank very much for your video. , but sir one thing when i start pc it says boot device not found, pls install an operating system on your hard disk" would kindly advise me what steps sholud i take now?
Hi, at 8:15 what is the small black rectangular box in the bottom right, I have noticed some xp360 laptops to have the 2.5" sata ssd there . Mine is the same as it has the m.2 and was wondering if you could help me please. Thanks
Many of the x360 (mine included) have the slot for a 2.5" hard drive, but have a M.2 SDD instead. You could add the 2.5" drive, but would need to get the specific cable from HP to go from the motherboard to the 2.5" hard drive.
@ The Nerd Is In, is that the reason why when I installed a 2.5 ssd in that empty space with a cable that I purchased on eBay didn’t work? I ended up getting a different cable and also didn’t work. I tried using a different hard drive and also didn’t work. I have to buy that cable directly from HP in order to add that second 2.5 inch drive? Thanks in advanced.
Never mind, I eneded up succesfuly adding my SSD with the eBay cable. No need for an HP one. Its all down to formatting the drive using the stock software provided with your HP.
No I did not. To do that, I had created a windows image backup of my old SSD and restored it to the new SSD. Then I had to resize the windows partition to use the new space on the hard drive.
Hello, I have the same laptop and I was a little pre-mature in taking it apart because my new drive didn't arrive like scheduled...there's a delay:( So, I put things back together and the laptop worked just fine; however, I powered it off; however, when I went to power it back up this morning it didn't come one. Not even the light at the power button...nothing. Any suggestions? Thanks, Tony
I would go back and check all the ribbon cables. So unfortunately, another disassemble. At least you can see them all with the back shell off and keyboard removed.
Please mention the caution on your video on a 99% possibility of losing your network card - Was a good Video but lost my Network I used a TP link wireless adaptor - after installing the drivers offline it worked like a charm tho
Hi, i have the same HP. I wanna expand the memory ROM as you, but not using onohet SSD M2. I wanted to use an SSD SATA 2.5 inch. I see in your video that there's a hole on the body of the pc to the similar size of this memorys, this space is for this SSD or im wrong? To be honest i don't have any idea about this stuffs, for example i don't see a SATA port in the motherboard. Thanks
There is a port on the motherboard for the cable to put a HD in that 2.5” bay. If the laptop does not ship with a drive in that slot, it does not come with the cable. Check the service manual for the part number.
Hi, I did exactly what you said and the laptop won’t turn on. I’ve been trying to turn it on for hours but it’s still not working. Do you know what the problem is?
I didn't read all of the comments left but I a have a question. Does anybody know if HP's batteries can be (upgraded) from the factory size to a larger capacity?
Hello, I have a similar laptop. I just want to examine the fan because it has been making a bit of noise. I'm hoping that it just might need some cleaning or that wires are close to the fan and just need to be adjusted. I have a cover on my laptop but instead of it being ovalular, it's circular and I've never opened the cover. Is there any gentle way of popping the cover up for me to get to the last screw?
M.2 slot SSDs can talk NVME or SATA To the motherboard. Your M.2 has to talk the correct protocol or it will not work. This HP laptop supports SATA protocol M.2 SSDs only.
I didn't know HP had such well documented service manuals!!!

Hello, both memories can be changed?
hola pregunta ambas memorias se pueden cambiar?
I tried both sata ssd (m+b key) and nvme on that m.2 slot but nothing works. What were you using?
I have the same laptop. Is this ssd working with Nvme ssd drives? Or just m.2 only?
I have trouble finding the correct service manual, there is another x360 14m with a different layout

Could you add a large hard drive in the empty space? Is that were one would go
Yes, but you would have to get the cable from HP to hook it up.

This is old. But do you remember what Ram or ssd you used for this?
Crucial.com for both the RAM and SSD. The M.2 SSD talks SATA Protocol.
Hi, i have similar pc, i want to install 2 new ram modules, should i use single or dual rank? Thnaks.
Best performance is using both DIMM slots with the RAM modules being the same size and speed. This should get you dual channel memory.
when you upgraded the SSD, did you have to reinstall windows?
No I did not. To do that, I had created a windows image backup of my old SSD and restored it to the new SSD. Then I had to resize the windows partition to use the new space on the hard drive.

Consult the manuals on the HP web site. Be sure you get the exact one for your laptop.

Hi i have hp pavilion x360 ba073tx model. I want upgrade to SSD. if i upgrade to ssd , then do i have to use hard drive externally ?
Not necessarily, but you can keep both drives into same PC.
The recommendation is SSD for OS and programs and HDD for rest of files

Every laptop internally can be different. Download the service manual for it and see how to get at the cooling assembly.

M.2 slot SSDs can talk NVME or SATA To the motherboard. Your M.2 has to talk the correct protocol or it will not work. This HP laptop supports SATA protocol M.2 SSDs only.
