    With MAID in Canada we already have pressure being put on disabled veterans, to end their lives, as they are too expensive. We now have a culture which devalues older people and the disabled, how long before they are made to feel unworthy of life, we already allow disabled children to be killed up to birth, for them there is no abortion time limit. This is very much a class issue, it is the like of very privileged Esther Ransen, has choice the old and disabled will not get the same.

      If you really think that is s scenario that is going to happen then you really do not understand how the British legal system works, people are going to have to jump through a thousand hoops and fill in reams of forms before anyone is allowed, under extreme controls, to be allowed to be assisted to die. The odds of what your suggesting being even remotely plausible are astronomical.

    • @Cashback13
      @Cashback13 День назад +1

      You could literally say that though about any legal decision that someone takes in life as well but it's still them who sign the form at the end of the day and that is easy to bypass by having 1-1 consultation with 2 separate doctors privately without family or friends or anyone else present. Why would someone who knew someone was going to die anyway within a matter of months be trying to encourage them to make that decision anyway if they are a trusted carer? They would be the opposite and try and talk them out of it.
      If it's for money and inheritance that is the concern then they don't have to do anything just wait it out as it's already been confirmed. Plus they may need to keep the person alive to make sure they are included in the will in the first place! and it takes time to sort that out no matter when the person dies you don't get the money the very next day!

    Any law based on emotion and not reason is a bad law. Suicide is not illegal. Any adult can take their own life. That's fine with me. Asking someone else to do it for you is so selfish and so not fine. No one should be asked to take someone else's life. Wasn't that one of the arguments against Capital Punishment? And people notoriously change their minds but there's no coming back from assisted death. And those killed in this way will certainly not be sitting on a cloud in heaven lovingly looking down on their families relieved of all their suffering. You never get to experience the difference! Finally it is not Assisted Dying. It is being killed, if not murdered, by someone else.

      Fifteen minutes of a young doctor trying to persuade me not to help my mother to live.
      My mother was rational, perfectly healthy mentally capable of running her own household, I took her shopping.

The doctors I interacted with were very much the opposite with my grandmother who lived till she was 96 very sharp and always on her feet. She survived 9 heart attacks and saw the hospital many times. She was the soul of the party in the ward. She was treated with the greatest respect. Don't let your experience of one doctor influence the right of people who are dying of very painful deaths to go peacefully. And read the full bill. Doctors won't be able to just make elderly patients sign a form. It's a lot more regulated than that.

She was fully aware of everything and did not ever express the wish for someone to help her die. She discussed her end of life plan with both my sister and myself outlining exactly how her funeral should go, her preferred choice of music, flowers etc and even told us who should be in each of the main cars following the hearse. I believe like me she would not want to put that sort of pressure on family members. She did however make it known that she was not to be resuscitated. Countless ppl have lived for many years after told they had told they pass, my niece is 13 we was told she pass with in few mins then few hours then fews weeks then few months then few years.

    I don’t think anyone should vote on this until you have held someone’s hand and watched them pass away.
    When you see the terror in someone’s eyes as they realise what is happening and can do nothing about it, and feel their hand grip you though the pain of dying over months, it’s only then can you understand what you are voting for.
    After feeling someone die in pain and listen to the family, if they even have one, during and after the death.

There are a whole heap of questions that need to be addressed. On the who,e I would, if I have to choose a side, go for no assisted death. Only help to control the pain and make what is left of a persons life as comfortable as is humanly possible. Anyone voting on this needs to ask themselves “Could I assist with this for a loved one”.
