    For those who are bringing their cats outside for the first few times, I’d suggest getting an escape proof harness specifically designed for cats. And the leash size should be 10 ft MINIMUM. For those who are new to cat walking/training, a lot of cats won’t eat treats when they are first being brought outside because they are constantly distracted

    I watch Rosie and Lilo all the time, ever since my kitty died. I trained him to be an adventure cat and I highly recommend Mynwood cat jackets from the UK. I don't work for them. It's easy to get it on and off, and he adjusted easily. I even made a wool "coat" to go over the harness from a thrift store sweater! Go Rosie Go!

    I wish I had trained my boys to be adventure cats when they were kittens... I fear now that they're older -- 6 and 5 years -- it may be too late to get them used to a harness and leash. Thank you for sharing your adventures with Lilo, Rosie and the rest of the pack -- we live vicariously through y'all!

      Jeanie Williams I just adopted a 6 year old cat who has been indoors all her life and I've started taking her for walks! it took a few times for her to get used to the harness but now she doesn't mind it and I started letting her walk in the back yard and at quiet parks! it's totally doable if you have the patience!

      Jallaina Sloane -- thank you for sharing that! I need to get harnesses for them and try it. Hopefully, with a little patience on my part, my boys will enjoy walks on a leash too. I'd love to take them out like that :-)

      Hope it goes well! Might take some time for them but cats are smart and adaptive especially if you give them treats and head scratches!

    I walk my 2 cats outside too, around 8 years now. But mostly without leash. I would agree with every point you made, but also, that the owner should mostly walk infront of the cat aka lead the cat. Walking behind it isn´t good, if the goal is to walk it off-leash later aka get it to follow the owner. Also I would recommend a much longer leash, a flexible one with at least 8 meters length. But the best is of course off leash, then they can play tag, climb trees etc. and nothing is in the way. (of course only in nature, where no dogs, no cars & very little amount of strangers are around)
    Also jogging with cats it fun & keeps the walk interesting. F.e., I run away from my cats & they run after me. It´s more like playing tag actually. (I have videos about that on my channel)

    Yeah Rosie’s pretty special since she got raised by Lilo, who taught her so much beyond just being your average kitty! Also, she has an amazing attention span. There are cats I’ve known who just tear stuff apart, are hyper paranoid, hate people. They would not accept a leash. I’m figuring you’d have to start them out as kitten with the leash.

    :) Hi from Canada ! I love how you treat your animals, you really love them and you care for them, this is important 😻 ! I have a suggestion for you : Rosie goes a lot on adventures in all kind of climates, I never saw a bottle of water in your videos, maybe you should considerate giving her water during trips because it is essential :)

    • @crashburndicoot6940
      @crashburndicoot6940 2 года назад

      Actually cats get over 75% of their water from the food that they eat. & just because it's not shown she's been given water doesn't mean they didn't give her any during the entire trip.

  • @leatherprops

    awesome work! we've been working on dog-like tricks and harness-training with our guys for a couple of years. Treats are key ;). Cats are motivated much differently than dogs, and take longer to decide if they want to do the thing you're asking of them... patience is as important as treats ;).
    Something I've found as we mentally stimulate our cats through various training is they get smarter with more stimulation. Has this been your experience? The downside is they're bored and neediest for attention when we're not working on training...
    Again, awesome work with your adventure cats!

    Cats by nature is adventurous. They can travel away from home by themselves. But I think having dogs as the cat companion probably make her stick along as a pack with their human. I have so many cats and only 2 of my cats walk along me outside the house without any training or leash.

    I just trained my cat to be an adventure cat but he's still so petrified of strangers outside! Whenever someone walks past, she would lay low and try to hide. Does your cat do that? How do you train them to not be scared of strangers outside? He's not scared of visitors at home, he plays with them all the time. He's 8 months old btw

    • @TravelersGarden_dgdr
      @TravelersGarden_dgdr 7 лет назад

      That´s pretty normal. But how I helped my cats: Squat down when strangers come & let the cats hide under my legs while petting (slow massage, no quick strokes) them. Later (after they got calmer after a few times) I squatted down, but in a manner where they can´t hide under my legs, but only can sit next to them while petting them. Treats work too, but those treats should be special. (No dry food, but real stuff like cooked chicken o.s.)
      If the strangers are nice & calm & are patient (you need to tell them that it may take a minute), they can try to give treats to the cat (by squatting down 2 meters away & stretching their arm out with a treat & wait, then you have to pet & talk tot he cat to motivate...). If the cat doesn´t want to leave your side, you just move towards the stranger & squat down next to them & call your cat. That will motivate your cat to come closer. Praise your cat a lot for every tiny correct move she does. (f.e. just for stretching her nose to the treat without moving closer first, then for every step she takes in the right direction)
      Also what helps is, just to talk to the stranger for 5 minutes while the cat is ignored. The cat gets calmer, because nobody is bothering it & it may come closer on its own.
      Also driving your cat in a bike basket around is helpful. Cars, dogs, strangers, horses etc., can be seen without putting it into danger or stress. You can see how I do that on my channel (there you can see how the basket looks like & how we drive around etc.)

  • @masterofsniping92
    @masterofsniping92 6 лет назад

    re 1:30, I’m not too sure about that explanation. It could also be the cat attempting to reposition their harness to be more comfortable. Harnesses are inherently uncomfortable, and cats are comparatively sensitive creatures, so this seems far more likely.
