I'm so glad you're showing people how to use positivity to teach. I get upset when I see videos of people laughing while a cat in a harness falls over. That's obviously not pleasant for the cat.

It can be normal at first for a cat to fall a bit as they aren't used to it, especially if you start when they are very young. However, it shouldn't be anything too bad and it's more if an awkward movement.

It's funny and it doesn't hurt them. If it's not for more than a few seconds and you're actually trying to get the cat to like the harness, it's hilarious. And I love cats. I apologize when I do anything to them. All they're doing is flopping over.

Great review video. My elderly gentleman cat learned to harness walk at 8 years old and still prefers it to his carry crate if we are going short distances to the vet. He's very chill personality and is not food motivated, but loves grooming so he got toothbrush grooms on his face and cheeks as his reward - whatever works right?
I use a cloth vest harness attached with Velcro because he's broad across the chest and skinny hipped so I figured webbing harnesses would be backed out of.

I've been training my 1yr old cat since she was about 6 months old.
She can walk on a lead around the front and back yard but doesn't want to go any further than that.
She very easily distracted and doesn't always go for food rewards.
But I have managed to teach her how to sit and beg so far with hand gestures.
Your videos have been a real help and inspired me to train my cat.

CATMANTOO, we rescue 2 adult cats, at 2 different times. Put harness and leash on them (separately), took them to parks/bike trails, had no problems. They walked very well - not like a dog, but great for cats. Don’t know if previous owners trained them, or if they were just grateful to be outside. Both cats (ages 3 and 7) are strictly indoors. We enjoy your videos.

My cat is already fully trained, but I would like to ask, what's your take on doing this with older cats? (from 1 year old and up). I started training my cat when she was 1, and she's perfect on the leash (sometimes she tries to take me in whatever direction she wants, but other than that she's good), but can be extremely frightened of parks/larger open areas. She does great on the beach (we worked on it for a couple of days) but with larger parks (acreages), it's really hard for her to adapt to it, and we've been there several times but she is really frightened and tries to drag me away. She's fine with people and dogs, but its just the open space that scares her and she is not food motivated AT ALL, nor toy/play motivated so that makes it harder to train her. I have taught her sit, and high five but she will not listen at all when frightened.
Would really like your advice on this!

Hello, That's why I say in the video don't set your cat up to fail, only visit places your cat likes, or take a more systematic approach when introducing your cat to strange places. exposing them in small doses making those experiences positive, and keep doing that many times. most importantly if your cat isn't responding to the lowest levels of exposure, then stop trying there and try a place more suitable for your specific cats tolerance level. If you want to take your skills to the next level, join us on patreon.

i takes time, but is cool to go out of this small studio apt with my companion(cat) she gets so much from walking as well as i do and i always have a stroller for when the need to be protected or whatever, it works well using both...dogs have owners, cats have staff

my cat is totally fine on a leash and she was doing so good walking beside the road like everyone else in the neighborhood does but then she saw people and a car and she ran all the way back to the front door of our house now she’s traumatized and won’t walk by the road :(

Although my cats have a cat flap and are indoor / outdoor cats, recently, one of them got into a fight, resulting in him having to have a cone collar on, which means he can't go outside. He absolutely loves the outdoors, so currently we are taking him on walks outside, so he's supervised and is unable to rid himself of the plastic collar. 😂🐈💕

My cat Valkyrie is a natural on the leash. She was 4 when we got her as a rescue so perhaps she's been on a leash before as now we take her to a few different parks and the local shops

I'm currently working with my 10 yr old boy to accept the harness. I do not intend to walk him on a leash but I do want to walk with a backpack for him. The backpack has a loop where I will be able to hook the leash onto as a safety measure. He is doing very good in the house, lots of pets and treats tossed in front of him so he walks to the treat. I had one over the head style and have just purchased an H style harness which he likes much better. It is a slow process so patience is needed.

@Vlodec I'm sorry... I was just trying to reassure you of the fact that maybe the cat just doesn't mind? I didn't mean to offend you if I did. Like I said, all cats are different. Again I'm sorry....geez...
