I lived a few blocks from Trinity in the 70s, Trinity used to give free sunset concerts of their bell tower. Locals folks would assemble on the lawn, some would bring wine and a blanket, and we'd listen to their amazing church bell concerts. Hartford was once a great city of the arts.

Hi Dan, great videos! I was wondering if you have any info on the subterranean structure that appears to be on the grounds of Capitol/Bushnell park? It can be seen in the 1877 birds eye view of Hartford . It's also visible in several photo post cards that showcase the arch, river, and capitol building. Love the. Content your producing AND I'm going to be telling my friends!

I'm not sure which structure you mean? The one with the steps?

If you look at the 1877 illustration, it's to the north of the capitol building. Probably 1/3 of way from Capitol steps to the native american fountain. Basically where the walking path is located now just below the parking area. Look at the 1877 birdseye...its there. I'd post screen grabs but you cant in youtube comments.

Samuel Seabury was consecrated a bishop in Scotland in 1784. He was the first bishop in the American Episcopal Church. His election in Woodbury was done in secret as the the church was nervous of the response by the established Congregational Church.

The Congregationalists thought the Episcopalians were Tories, thus a trojan horse for reestablishing ties to the monarchy. Remember Nathan Hale was a Yale grad, so that neck being stretched left a scar in the memories of patriots who survived the war. Hence almost fifty years later the state charter for Washington (now Trinity) College in 1823 mandating complete adherence to the United States constitution. Pro Ecclesia et Patria.
