COVID-19 is a pandemic disease caused by a novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV 2. Discovered first in the Wuhan city of China, in the late December of 2019, this virus causes an upper respiratory infection. The novel virus usually spreads through the respiratory droplets that get dispersed into the air or surfaces when an infected person sneezes or coughs. The infection was declared pandemic this march due to its global spread to many countries from China. This global transmission rate is still rising as more people are getting infected through patients with international travel history to hotspot countries like the USA, Spain or Italy. With regards to symptoms, the disease initially starts with mild fever and cough that can soon turn fatal with severe cases like pneumonia or kidney failure or both. Therefore, the patients are recommended to immediately contact the healthcare centres as soon as they observe any emergencies. The diagnosis of this infection is ideally performed with first collecting the samples in the universal Viral transport medium. Sample collection by VTM ensures the viability of the pathogen during the transport. And once the sample reaches the testing centre, it is subjected to RT-PCR for further examination.
To have control over the situation, every government has launched some programmes like a complete lockdown. The travellers are also being quarantined for at least 14 days till they can be declared negative for COVID-19.
