Romeo is truly an underrated guitarist. People that think he is just a another Yngwie copycat are completely ignorant. He has a tone and sound that is completely his own.
Conny Berg Michael Romeo is better than yngwie , ppl call him a clone but he can play stuff that I bet yngwie couldn’t, he doesn’t only sticks to neoclassical he can do a lot more
@@busu666 Yngwie does not only play neoclassical. He also plays (and adores) classical and also plays awesome blues. I really don't think there is anything Yngwie can't play
@@busu666 Well, I Will actually give you a point tho, because there is one thing Romeo can do and Yngwie can't and that is to play SLOW when he says so! Yngwie is incapable of doing that in his tutorials
Classical guitar fingering basics do that to you man. It makes your movement very precise and economic, that's why I started my classical guitar journey after dodged it for years
Michael Romeo is God on guitar. I've been listening to Symphony for more than 20 years. He is a true guitar legend and an inspiration for everyone with his unique way of playing.
Super technical music theory executed with the highest precision, efficiency, and accuracy a human can do. That is exactly what this unmatched musician does…
This is literally one of the most useful guitar instructional videos I’ve stumbled upon. I love how everything is broken down to mostly small portions of licks but have a great application into your own arsenal of playing. Will defiantly be using this for the remainder of the year to working on my playing!
What blows my mind about this guy is how he didn't start guitar really early on, and didn't even go to any music school (not for too long anyway) and yet he's still among the greatest; both technically and musically
this is because school cannot make u play better only u can make yourself play better through lots of practice music school is great for theory imo and learning about different i fluences of music nd genre
Game Freak I don't know, I seem to have started at around the same age, and always figured well, most players who play better than me have started guitar early on in their lives; and they have learned music theory in music schools. Kinda shuts my mouth about making excuses for my mediocrity
It's not when you start playing that matters but how you practice. An intelligent goal oriented practice session is more important and it helps if you have a great teacher that will criticize your technique and show you how to practice correctly! It is also important to be self-critical and analyze the details of your technique!
Symphony X is one of the concert circuits best live acts. Allen Russell is a superb front man. Great vocal abilities. SX is tight and just about flawless. Michael Romeo is not only technically proficient, but more importantly, has deep artistic intuition. He's toured the world several times over. Much respect for Michael and Symphony X. Can't wait for the next CD. Even better, DVD. Continued prosperity to a fantastic American icon.
I saw them live a while back and I definitely agree, they are incredible. I even got a chance to talk to Mike, Russell, and Mike Lepond after the show, and they're some the coolest guys I've ever met. I only wish I could have met Mike P and Jason too.
Dude yeah...after each trip I just keep coming back to this, and the man is simply spot on he really is... Note-for-note flawless, at least so far as I can tell...
Michael Romeo is on the absolute top level as a guitar player. And... he is a great composer and arranger. And... he has his own style and tone. As advanced as Tony MacAlpine, Jason Becker and Ethan Brosh.
Believe it or not, Michael Romeo today is even better than the guy you're witnessing here. More musical, more melodic, and every bit of the chops is still there.
I got to see Shawn Lane live with the Temporal Analouges of Paradise (Jeff Sipe on drums and Jonas Hellborg on bass) back in the mid 90's. Shawn was incredible.
Michael Romeo is absolutely amazing... IMO, probably the best METAL guitarist ever, and I can't stand 'best' labels. Yngwie may have been there first with the neo-classical shredding (actually Uli Roth) but Romeo takes it to a whole other level that's WAY more musical and sophisticated, and he's a great writer. Those that make fun of him are NOT funny... Let's see your talented video, smart ass.
Agreed. His approach is so musical yet very technical as well. As for the fat jokes like "Sea of Fries" "Romeo is Yngwie that eats Batio" etc, I think just chill and ignore em man, not all of them really meant it like they hate him, just an immature teasing joke, let em be. And about those who hate or jealous and make fun of Romeo, it just shows how good Michael truly are 🤘
Micheal just got into my book of favorite guitarists, after watching a Reaction video of Symphony-X, I became a huge fan!!! On a RUclips show called The Daily Doug!!! I had heard of him for years but never gave him a listen to like I should have, talk about regrets, this man is absolutely a monster guitarist, I will be listening and learning from him from here on out!!
Totally agree! To both that he's one of the best and also that he's underrated. Him and Petrucci. They sooooooo need to work together someday on some project!!!!!!!!!!
If Malmsteen and Shawn Lane were both the dad, this is the kid they'd have. haha he even looks like a combo of them. Machine gun picking and crazy limber left hand. damn it. Lucky genetics.
***** another comment totally misunderstood. But then I guess you get enough people reading something, SOMEONE is going to come back with a strawman response.
He is at the top of proficiency in muscle and scale training. There is virtually nothing currently in the music books that he can't crack if he doesn't already know. He is very dedicated to music and guitar, to the outer limit. The perfect mental attitude to master, and sailing out into the ocean of guitar.
Suddenly, I feel like i'm 12 again playing wolfenstein 3d as a change of pace from a 6 hour session of nintendo... ... the whole time listening to guitar shredding and dreading going to school the next day. Life was better then.
the fingering and musicality of the notes he plays is something out of the ordinary. The tremolo and sustain of his notes are perfect...for me Michael Romeo is the successor to what Blackmore and Yngwie started.
Michael Oreo rocks, this guy is pound for pound, one of the best players in heavy rock today. He feeds off a steady diet of tasty licks and a thick, fat and juicy distorted tone, mixed into a delicious stew of arpeggios and slick, greasy runs. He leaves nothing on the table, and making you want to come back for a second helping of the feast for your ears.
This is great! Favorite parts: Tapping Arps 34:08, 35:22, 37:31. 6:33, 20:43, 23:48 all remind me of some of the things Shawn Lane used to do! Wild! 25:02 reminds me of the classical stuff Paul Gilbert does and 35:05 is Tony MacAlpine level stuff. Awesome!
It does, especially the first one - One example is "Get You Back" by Shawn Lane. Shawn would play it all with just his left hand though and extend to notes with slides. Which makes it insane. Even Romeos string skipping diminished runs Shawn would all play with his left hand. However, tapping does give a different sound.
amazing. Im going to study this tutorial religiously. I think the most important part is to learn how he keeps his fingers so close to the fretboard and how he manages to pick so efficiently and to coordinate both hands.
