Yarn : Red Heart Super Saver (worsted weight #4)
Hook : 5.00mm / H
Magic loop
Round 1 : chain 1, 9 hdc, slip sts
Round 2 : chain 1, 2 hdc into every sts, slip sts (18 sts)
Round 3 : chain 1, *2 hdc, 2 hdc into next sts*, repeat * 6x, slip sts. (24 sts)
Round 4 : chain 1, *3 hdc, 2 hdc into next sts*, repeat * 6x, slip sts. (30 sts)
Round 5 : chain 1, *4 hdc, 2 hdc into next sts*, repeat * 6x, slip sts. (36 sts)
Round 6 : chain 1, *5 hdc, 2 hdc into next sts*, repeat * 6x, slip sts. (42 sts)
Round 7-12 : chain 1, 42 hdc, slip sts
Ear flap
Row 1 : chain 1, 10 hdc
Row 2 : chain 1, 1 hdc dec, 5 hdc, 1 hdc dec, 1 hdc (8 sts)
Row 3 : chain 1, 1 hdc dec, 3 hdc, 1 hdc dec, 1 hdc (6 sts)
Row 4 : chain 1, 1 hdc dec, 1 hdc, 1 hdc dec, 1 hdc (4 sts)
Chain 1 & cut yarn
Skip 12 sts from the 1st earflap to make the 2nd ear flap (repeat same pattern)
Make sc sts for the border and make 2 sc into every corner of the earflap
Spike (make 4 pieces)
Make loose knot or magic loop
Round 1 : chain 1, 6 sc into loop, slip sts
Round 2 : chain 1, * 1 sc, 2 sc into next sts *, repeat * 3x. slip sts (9 sts)
Round 3 : chain 1, * 2 sc, 2 sc into next sts *, repeat * 3x. slip sts (12 sts)
Round 4-6 : chain 1, 12 sc, slip sts
Sew spikes on beanie

I used a 6.0 mm hook added a few hdc rows and 3 rows of camel stitch around the bottom. It fits my almost 3 yr old. Also, I always struggle with magic circles and your way is easy for me! Thank you.

If I wanted to make this for a 4-5 year old could I just increase the number of hdcs in round one?

Hi Valarie. Maybe you can add the increase round until round 8 and use 5.50mm hook. You could add the hdcs at round one too.
